Re: Travis= CLUTCH

I'll give Travis his props, and he tends to hit game winners. I just wish his play up to that point would not leave the team in the situation where they needed a game winner to begin with.

Re: Travis= CLUTCH

No way was that a bad shot - that was much better than a lot of the looks the Blazers were getting tonight. Anytime Travis drives in and can take a medium range jumper without fading away horribly, it's a good shot.

Re: Travis= CLUTCH

I knew this thread -- and looks like 10 others -- would be made by Eric about Travis.
Give it up for Outlaw for making the clutch shot, and he played well for the most part. He's still so damn inconsistent though, especially when he's a part of the second unit when the starters go down to begin the second quarter.

It's frustrating because we know what Travis is capable of, and sometimes we get to see it, and sometimes we don't. We just want some consistency from him.

Re: Travis= CLUTCH

I was surprised though that we went to Travis for the final shot. That was a ballsy play call by Nate

Re: Travis= CLUTCH

Prior to that shot, Travis was 5-9, so shooting above 50% for the night. During the timeout, Nate calls Outlaw's number to create a shot (makes sense).

Travis gets the ball, drives, elevates over two players who don't come close to blocking the shot, traivs gets a clear look at the basket with no one to alter his shot and makes it.

And you caharcaterize this last play of the game drawn up by the coach as a shitty shot that went in. If it was Brandon who took on a double team at the end of the game and shot over them to make a basket, you would be praising Roy.

Ya, that's the way I saw it too. For most players that would have been a terrible shot, but Outlaw gets up so far that it can't be blocked. He just waits until he has a clear shot and he shoots a fairly easy shot for him.

Re: He dunks on KG in the clutch and then shoots down the league's hottest team...

You make it seem like he did one thing right after the other. You don't insert in there "Scored a whole 2 points against Toronto, and nearly fouled out by the end of the first quarter". Or was a -22 while on the court against New Orleans. That is what is so maddening about Outlaw. He is not consistent. In order for a team to be good, the players have to play consistently good. That is how you get to be elite. Until the players perform like that, they will not be elite. An example of a consistent small forward is the guy he was guarding tonight. Tayshaun Prince. He shows up every game, on both ends of the court, and has a complete game. He plays calm and poised. Also note, Travis was guarding him tonight. Tayshaun dropped 26 on him.

He may have hit the game winner, but if he had played better until than, maybe we wouldn't have needed nail biter.

Re: He dunks on KG in the clutch and then shoots down the league's hottest team...

We wouldn't need the big clutch shots if he would not lose his man on the defensive end every game and allow them to score 26 points like tonight!

When Travis plays defense and still makes the big shot, we'll all say he's a keeper. Till then he's just making up for his no show on the other end.

Is that fair to say?

Travis wasn't guarding Prince all game. Not hardly. He scored a lot of those points on other players. I believe his last shot was hit against Joel. Also- Prince has been killing lots of teams lately. Was Travis supposed to hold this potential All Star to 8 points? That wasn't gonna happen no matter how well Travis played.

So not true. I saw Prince hit a fadeaway over Blake. I saw another shot that was right in Joel's face. You can't just go to the boxscore and say that Outlaw gave up all the points next to Prince's name. And Prince has been playing well lately so he was bound to get his.

Re: He dunks on KG in the clutch and then shoots down the league's hottest team...

ALSO- Prince played 44 minutes while Travis only played 33 minutes. You can't guard a guy while you're watching him from the bench.

What you MIGHT want to ask is who was supposed to be guarding TRAVIS? He shot 6 of 10 off the bench and hit the game winner. Who's fuck up was that?

Prince was actually killing the bigs, not Travis. Travis only had about 1 or 2 bad plays on Prince. The problem was that we kept switching Joel, Blake or LMA on Prince. They sagged off and Prince hit jumpers.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^truth, thank you^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I'm sick of people just making stuff up to blame Travis for.

Nice quotes by Travis last night:

"At the beginning of this season, we knew there was going to be a lot of commotion going on, things would get a little crazy around here ... but we always know we got each other," Outlaw said. "So that's how we manage to stick together. We're like a family.

"As a team, that's what you have to do, that's what you have to be. That's the chemistry that wins. So that's what we're trying to build and so far everybody in here is cool."

Reminds me of Outlaw's statment from this summer: "When I jump, I'm always open."

Get Ready For The Big KingSpeed Travis Thread

He is shooting out of his mind, though.

Yep, Mr. No! No! No! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm also expecting the latest trade him now while his value is high thread. I wonder which one will be posted first...

33 points and 7 rebounds against the Bulls. With Roy struggling, Travis stepped up and carried the team. Special props for Oden who dominated and Blake who played the PG as well as anyone can tonight. Great win. Sweep.

That is a fantastic idea. Wonder what we could get for Outlaw after a night like this?

Outlaw was very, very good.

He attacked the bucket early. He hit three pointers. If he can do those two things, he's going to help the team a TON. Getting to the line and contributing on the glass made him even more impressive tonight.

Re: Get Ready For The Big KingSpeed Travis Thread

Probably the best game ever for Travis. I loved the running jump hook. Actually I am not sure what it was, but it looked great and would be great weapon if he could shoot it more. He played equally well from the SF as he did from the Pf spot. He played Deng very well also.

33 points off the bench is very nice, but 33 pts. on 14 shots in 36 minutes is flat ridiculous. The blocks were timely as well. Definitely an A+ game

Nothing but love for Trav tonight. I hope he can keep it up, because it's always better to get great production out of players you already have on your roster rather than having to go shopping in a trade.

Travis knows "you" hate him

http://trailblazerscentercourt.blogspot.com/2009/01/talking-with-travis-outlaw-hated.html

"My cousin told me about (what people write online)," said Outlaw. "He’s like ‘Travis, they hate you in Portland.’ And I’m like ‘You for real?’ And he’s like ‘Yeah.’ I was like, oh well, I don’t know everybody hated me. He said ‘Yeah, they hate you here.’"

I spend some time around Travis and have discussed this topic with him enough to know that he's not entirely serious (Outlaw tends speak out of the corner of his mouth in a lower tone when he wants you to know he's joking around), but the twinge of insecurity is there. A part of Travis, a guy who consistently asks and is legitimately interested in the opinions of people like myself, really feels as though he's Portland's least wanted.

Don't hate.

Travis Outlaw Taking a Pass

http://trailblazerscentercourt.blogspot.com/2009/01/travis-outlaw-taking-pass.html

“I’m going to quit trying settle for the jumper,” said Outlaw. “Now my thing is trying to get two people to start playing me. If I can get two people to start playing me, you know, then I can get someone else a wide-open shot. When I catch it on the block, they coming to a stopper down, so now my thing is to make them go and commit. If I can make them commit, then I can probably get Blake or Rudy, someone out there in the corner, an easier shot.”

“I don’t play against two, you know? Only a couple of people in the league can play against two.”

It’s a surprising admission from a player known for his ability to get off shots, and when pressed further, it becomes clear that Outlaw does think he can get his against a double team, but now, he doesn’t consider it such a good idea.

“I mean, I can play against two if I want,” jokes Outlaw, “but we got too good of a team for me to do that. Scoring is something I do. You look at my game, I’m defiantly scoring, but we got too good of guys for me to take that poor of a shot. But trust me; I can get it off against two.”

Growth?

Better idea: Mods, please move these to the Travis Outlaw "fan club" thread.

Re: Travis knows "you" hate him

I like Travis, I just think that he got off to a slow start and is now rounding into shape. However, he should be able to get into this form much earlier now that he knows what to expect year in and year out. However, I definitely appreciate what he brings to the floor; along with his likability off it.

He's my wife's fave.

Re: Travis knows "you" hate him

I have been back and forth for a long time about Outlaw. I love his natural ability and he seems like such a nice guy, but other times I get annoyed at stupid rookie-style mistakes he still commits. Also, he often goes in and out of games mentally which is a problem with many players in this league. Personally, I would love to keep him as a Blazer, but I realize that this team needs some things in a trade, and he is the best Blazer that I would be willing to divorce from the core, so his value would most likely be whats needed if a good trade is done by KP. But on nights like tonight, i just don't want to see him leave.
