Merged: Who would you give up for Paul George?

Another Nugget apparently about PG: He was a huge Clipper fan while growing up in LA. Clips had a chance to draft him and he's been salty about getting passed on for Al-Farouq Aminu.

The guy who picked Aminu over PG: Neil Olshey.
Are you trying to crush all our dreams??!! :)

Olshey probably hates to admit that one!

Neil really whiffed on that draft. Took Aminu 1 pick before Gordon Hayward (9th) and PG (10th).

ET was drafted 2nd in that draft and Ed Davis went 13th. Man what a crapshoot. We might be okay where we are at 15.

Oh, jeeeeeez! That's it - in order to set the world right, Aminu will be traded for George.

"Look Paul--when I drafted Aminu, I was planning all along on using him as a trade chip. If I'd drafted you, you'd have been in New Orleans that next year, dealing with a flailing franchise owned by the league; not a pretty situation for anyone. Can you imagine how crushing that would have been for you to be drafted to your hometown and then traded away a year later? I wasn't going to do that to you. I passed on you because I knew it'd be best in the long run for your development as a player and as a man. And now look where you are!

You're welcome."

Dame/CJ/PG/Chief/Nurk

With that lineup Rock Paper Scissors determines who has the best S5 in the league between us and GSW.

4 All-Star caliber players. Could they make it work? I don't think dame or CJ would have problems deferring, which makes me say yes. The question would be if PG could make it work, I also say yes there.

Any PG, you can make those passes you did at the end of game 1, dame and CJ got your back! Or shoot it, we know you're a G!

Chief? C'mon man!

Chief? C'mon man!
Yeah that lineup is an offensive monster with Dame/CJ/PG/Nurk, and a defensive monster with PG/Chief/Nurk

Substitute Noah for chief assuming he isn't part of the trade and I'm not complaining.

Aminu sucks and his defense is average.

How would you rank our assets for value in a trade?

I'd say: broken down into tiers

1. Dame
2. CJ
3. Nurk

4. 15
5. 20

6. Noah
7. Aminu
8. 26
9. Harkless
10. Davis

11. Turner
12. Crabbe

13. Layman
14. Napes
15. Patty C

16. Leonard

Is that about right? 2018 first goes into tier 2-3.Outside of top tier, I'd throw every single other asset at Indy for an un-extended PG. Let's hope he doesn't make an all NBA team so that they can't throw 200 mil at him.

Even so, is Indy actually going to get BK's pick this summer with the fear of him walking next summer? Teams will lowball the shit out this
That's good for us. Maybe we can give them the highest lowball ;)

I'd rank Noah, Harkless and Aminu above the draft picks.

So, bear in mind that George will be a FA after this coming season and everybody is convinced he wants to end up in LA. But that's also the reason why he might be traded, because if Indy had him locked up long term they wouldn't even consider trading him.

So: would you give up CJ for him? Would you give up Lillard for him? Don't say anyone else because we have nothing else that would interest them.

No.

Can't see them getting the 2017 Brooklyn pick, unless it somehow falls out of top 3 and even then it's a stretch. I can see them getting the 2018 pick plus scrubs.

1. Lillard
2. McCollum
3. Nurkic

4. 15
5. 20
6. 26
7. Harkless
8. Davis

9. Vonleh
10. Aminu
11. Napier

12. Layman
13. Connaughton

14. Turner
15. Crabbe

16. Leonard

I'd rank them and tier them like that. Napier is someone you could give away for free, as you could Vonleh and Aminu. Layman and Connaughton you could give away free, too, as throw-ins to a larger deal. Turner, Crabbe and Leonard, IMO, you'll need to attach positive value to (or take back significant negative value) to deal. They're the "underwater assets," at least as I see them right now. Olshey could prove me wrong and trade them for actual value, but I'd need to see it to believe it.

Higher up, I think the draft picks are the most valuable (though not highly valuable) trade assets beyond Lillard/McCollum/Nurkic and Harkless and Davis you could trade for minor value considerations (like a second-round pick in Davis' case and maybe a late first round pick in Harkless' case.

Let's remember, this is not a stacked ranking of how good each player on the roster is--it also accounts for salary realities as I see them. I think Turner and Crabbe should be much higher on the list if it was just a player quality question, but I'm very doubtful that other teams want Turner or Crabbe at their current salaries, especially with the NBA revising down the cap estimates and the jump in the cap being lower than expected and much lower than last year's jump was.

"I feel bad that Leonard is at #16......

..........................................................but it was the lowest number available.

It's an honor to even be on the list! None of us are.

Ahh, that participation award. I blame my parents for not making me 7' tall so I could get the 'it's just an honor to be included' speech down Oscar style.

He wouldn't stay so this is all irrelevant. We should be looking at Jimmy Butler.
The Bulls got eliminated in the first round. Rondo and Wade will be another year older next year. Wade shot 1 for 10 and played 19 minutes so the Bulls' biggest worry might be that he will exercise his option. I would be happy with either and it's good that both may be available. (I'm talking about George and Butler).

Btw Paul George should be "easier" to acquire than jimmy butler.

The question we should be asking is what's the best another team offer? Then work from there. I wouldn't give up CJ for a possible rental in George, but I would think about it for Butler. I don't know how much better that makes us though. I know Butler plays both ways, but I don't think substituting CJ for Butler makes us a contender.

Btw I think people are putting to much into this George to LA stuff. Yes he grew up in LA, but he also wants to win. Lakers still don't have any foundational pieces to build around. Their best player is fucking Julius Randle. If we somehow found a way to land George without giving up our big three, he wouldn't turn down contending for a ring and a bigger contract just so he can go play in his hometown and dap magic johnson. These guys are competitors, not make a wish kids.

A good example: Derozan.
