It's kind of like the dudes that have always wanted to trade Dame for the last three years seem to think that they know for a fact that he will be traded.

I think it would have already been done but what do i know

Absolutely correct. Dame may get traded but it won't be for a lowball offer. I think the staff has demonstrated that they are okay keeping him.

Then, when the reports started coming out about what Dame's agent was telling teams, I thought the odds dropped to around 60% it would happen this summer. And when the reports and rumors percolated that no other teams than Miami were actually engaged in any trade talks, I was thinking it was only about 50-50 it would happen before training camp; maybe even less

I think the current situation is an impasse. Dame still wants Miami and his agent has not changed tactics; Portland is getting no real interest from any team than Miami; Pat Riley is low-balling Portland; and Blazers have no interest in moving Dame for a shit package....and that's all that Miami can offer. Miami has bad young prospects. They have no available starting level players other than Herro, which Portland doesn't want (and the Blazers should not want Ant either). And their draft pick assets are either poor or too far in the future. And as I said, I don't think Riley has come close to making all of those assets available

1. Lillard/Goodwin quietly open the list to save face and get a trade done …
2. Another team (Brooklyn or Toronto) snatches him up with better and better fitting assets …
… or the more than highly unlikely …
3. Cronin stealth keeps Lillard by trading Ant, picks, Keon, and Little for a quality SF (or PF) and veteran depth in the front court.

The next generation of Scoot, Sharpe, Rupert, Murray and Walker remains. All but Rupert see court time as they actually can play. Rupert maxes out on Remix. Nurkic, Grant, Matisse, Lillard plus the incoming players …

It costs draft capital moving forward and settling up with Chicago.
It’s a win-now move — with an overpay in trade — rather than a rebuild, a bad trade of Lillard, and not a lot for Nurkic.
This is NOT getting a Lillard for Miami’s comparative poo-poo platter. The return should be a Grant-level player.

At some point, the deal is the deal and it’s in the best interest of the team to extract any value out of Dame. He’s 33. We have a stud point guard who needs minutes. Waiting is fine, but keeping Dame too long would be detrimental to the future of the team.

Trade him two years ago in his prime for what...... young players who could very well want out when they reach their prime in Portland? Seems risky. If any player was worth gambling on it was Dame. The Blazer FO did not end up doing a good job building around him, but they would have gotten crucified for trading Dame 2 years ago, especially if he had gone on to win a championship somewhere else. And I mean really blasted by their fans....as in fuck you and your ticket prices....we are not going to the games anymore. Then you risk losing the franchise. I get that I am embellishing here but still, you can't be that team who trades their star every time there are rumors they are unhappy.

Keeping Lillard too long is how long? Because I do agree that if Simons isn’t traded along with picks for a veteran forward who can reasonably nudge the Blazers to the top 4-5 in the West (aka, having a shot … contending) … then, yes, trading Lillard is the answer.

But, again, what is the minimum return given that Herro isn’t getting a player back for Portland who fits or it would already be done … and Sharpe is the future and prohibitive favorite at SG and Ant is a Blazer. A Miami trade with Lowry — who is USELESS except as KLEC for Portland given Scoot, Ant, Sharpe — plus 2 unproven mid-1st rounders and (likely) non-lottery picks and swaps that may never happen …

Lillard was injured 2 years ago and had been playing injured for some time. While the need for eventual surgery wouldn’t have nixed a trade 2 years ago, it does delay full health AND his getting a MAX contract, regardless, from another team which does make a big return on him more difficult. In fairness, recent BIG name trades like Durant and Beal and the Knicks getting their PG … have made the market smaller for Lillard than 2 years ago.

That was my initial thought seeing that as well on that report. I didn’t think Herro would command so little.

My hope still remains Brooklyn to win out. Probably the most win-win situation, considering they were second on his list and they also have a treasure chest of picks.

I don’t think Dame gets traded until we get into the season, and I think the Nets are a team that will want to see what this roster can do before they give up 3-4 1sts for Dame. There is going to be a battle in the East this season, and an inevitable Dame-trade to the East can and probably will have a seismic shift in the conference. It only takes one of MIA, BOS, BRK, PHI, NYK to get desperate.

• He's a 6'3 point guard who doesn't play defense.
• He's due a massive contract over the next few years.
• He plays one of the most saturated positions in the league right now.
• He has requested a trade to only one team.
• He and his agent have communicated to other teams that he wouldn't want to play anywhere other than Miami.

All of the things that I just mentioned can hurt his value. At some point, it's better to extract SOME value out of him instead of getting nothing. Dame is an asset with a finite amount of time that he can still play at a high level, and thus can only offer so many assets in return. Those assets that you can get in trade will only diminish as he continues to age.
