is there a possibility memphis might part with Ja cause of the bad pr for a wholesome dame in a 3 team combo? (with ant/nurk maybe?)

i know ive said it before and he's been injured , but i love brandon clarke's (obv not main piece) play style and think he'd be fun to watch with scoot n sharpe

That's a terrible haul for POR. Just what POR needs a guy with a bad attitude and two young unproven players, salary dump, and high high high picks. Awesome!!!

I like lottery picks the most. Next, lots of picks and expiring contracts. As far as an actual player we get back, I like Ayton more for Portland than Tyler Herro. Plus he's younger than Nurkic.

It's a moot point because I think they're going to see if Vogel can 'fix' Ayton before they trade him.

Honest question, what’s the type of package you’re looking for? Obviously picks, but what type of player or players that are realistic?

I don't think any of these are very realistic. One I think there's a good chance the front office trades Dame to a contender, and none none of these teams are, maybe Cavs, but why would the Cavs trade for Dame when they already have Donovan and Darius?

The fact that Jovic is doing well against one of the weakest fields, in terms of NBA talent, that this tournament has had just means that maybe he is a piece of the trade that brings some value. Still the minimum the Heat should have to give up to get Dame is a good return from a third team for Herro, Jaquez, Jovic, and their picks in 2024 (they'll have to work out freeing that up with OKC) 2028 and 2030 without protections. We should not have to take on some shitty contract like Ducan Robinson either.

I've already posted this a bunch of different ways but the trade should be Dame and Nurk for Lowry's exiring, Jovic, Jauquez, '24, '28 and '30 FRPs and the best return we can get from a third team for Herro. That's the trade that needs to happen. I don't think anyone should be petty about it. I really hope Joe has canvased the league finding out what value we could get for Herro and I hope the Heat front office has done the same, intending all of that value to go to us. I think both teams are playing a stupid game of chicken, obviously it's far more stupid for Miami because I don't really see it hurting us but it could definitely backfire on them. That being said, if I was Joe I would be trying to see what the very best version of the above deal is and decide if I can move forward with that.

Maybe Miami isn't offering what I'm saying is the least they have to in order to get this done or maybe Joe doesn't think that the deal I like is a fair deal for our team. In that case the stalemate makes sense from our side but if we're holding things up because of pick swaps or some shit like that or just because we can, I think that's dumb.

Agree with most of what you say.

The trade doesn't need to have the 2024 pick as that would be dependent on an action from exclusively OKC. The Blazers and Heat shouldn't back them into a spot where they are forced to negotiate with a single third party. The trade does need to have most of the Heat draft equity and involve a 3rd team. For example if Herro went to a third team (SAS) for a pick that matched the Heat's prior pick owed - but is the lesser of two picks so SAS are more willing to give it up - then the Heat are free to trade the Blazers 4 first rounders.

I'd say the Blazers also don't need to have Nurk/Lowry included, and the Blazers can receive Caleb Martin (or route him to a third team). Thats what I'm demanding if I'm Joe. But ultimately to finalize the deal I probably let the Heat keep one of Jovic/Jauquez/1st round pick/Martin if they give up everything else.

I'm not trolling or being pro-MIA. I'm just being honest with myself on what's probably going to happen and info we've actually been given.

Jovic was a rookie, a rookie that's a project to say the least. Miami is known to develop players, and sometimes developing players means not playing them.

Good post. Jovic was 19 last season, and most rookies are not ready. And no one is saying he is a potential star, just someone with size who has a lot of potential. He alone is not worth Dame, but as part of a package.....why not? How many other young 4s out there are available?

Yeah, it needs to be two out of Jovic, Jaquez and Martin along with four first round picks that are guaranteed to convey and no punitive contracts.
 
It would be really nice, if those 3 guys are good. Then we let Miami have one. But Jovic was 27th, Jaquez 18th and Martin undrafted. We are not talking about lottery players.

It is really tricky. I trust Schmitz on this. So, whatever we do, we should be fine. If Schmitz like them, sure, take them. But if he doesn't like them, then Dame has a problem.

Yes, Schmitz is key for me as well. It is all about how they develop in a couple of years when we talk about young players. Stats do not tell much about rookies. We would be idiots to rely solely on them for projecting their future. So we have to rely on FO that is thorough in their scouting.
 
I've watched the Serbia games so far...

Jovic was getting hunted by the likes of Puerto Rico on defense. I'm sure he'll become a better defender in time. Right now he's pretty bad on that end and strikes me more as a floor-spacing wing than a proper front court player. He's meh on close-outs and doesn't really know what to do at the rim. The potential is there—lateral movement isn't bad.

It's easy to watch the highlights on a player and think 'oh—winner winner!' But an NBA player like Jovic should absolutely be putting up 25 points every few games at this level of FIBA competition. That's table stakes against a team like, I don't know, South Sudan.

And I say all of this as someone who wants Jovic in the deal. It'd be fun to watch this guy develop for Portland. But he should not be the centerpiece of a deal.

Find a taker for Herro, and either get a decent player or an extra first back, get to 3 picks from Miami, and ensure you're getting both Jovic and Jaquez in the trade. As Lowe puts it—that only gets you to palatable; they're not doing Portland favors with any of the above, they're just paying the price for a guy who will put them in the championship conversation.

Anything less than that, the risk is worth the reward by waiting.

I agree with most of your post, but you suckered me into watching the replay of this game to see if it was true and I did not see anything that looked remotely close to PR hunting Jovic....or anyone else. They got their asses kicked

I’ve had the feeling all along that we’re getting Ayton but not until a Dame trade is complete. The writing was on the wall in June.

Because Dame is better. But not for Mobley.
