OT Might be problems with our food chain this summer or fall, so thinking about planting garden

Never tried making wine, make grape jelly. But there are tons of books on it.

Put in corn & beans today.

A tip: when you harvest leaf lettuce, don't pull it out, cut it at ground level and leave stem & root in the ground. They will produce a second crop of leaves.
We used to grow a lot of red leaf lettuce but I've now switched to more crunchy types like romaine, butter lettuce and bibb lettuce.

finally got the arbor for the grapes built and staked down. I think there are two different types of grapes based on last years investigation. Didn't even know we had them until MY mother spotted them and told me about them. Looking forward to having grapes!

Anyone know how to make wine? The only guy I know from here who does, is never here anymore.

Technically I do know how.
Have I done it recently aka as an adult(last 13 years)? No.
Grandparents have had an grab arbor for my entire life. Grandfather used to make wine from it. I've helped, done it, made it.
But that was 13 years ago and I remember nothing now.
Nowadays I just make jam using my grandmothers recipes. I don't share the jam. Cause I'm a bad person like that.

Lol, that's okay, Google is my best friend... but... not really...damn filtered bs... but... it'll get the job done. ;)

The first good red wine I ever had was from some sort of red plums that my cousin made when we were about 15 or 16. Damn, it was delicious. I stretched it out by taking a sip every 2 or 3 days. Now, these days I drink only quality wines and I'll place my cousin's homemade red plum wine against most of the quality wines I drink today.
I would suggest that you use Google and they will have more than one link to a source that will tell you explicitly how to make a homemade quality red from scratch.
If you're interested in making your own beer, I can suggest an outfit that will have everything you need to make as much beer as you like. They supply the yeast, all sorts of different hops, and other things including malted grains. You tell them what kind of beer you want and they will help you craft it. Everything is done right there and all you have to do is take it home when you're finished a few weeks later.

Yeah with how filtered google has it, I will probably only get links to corona virus issues somehow connected to alcohol or something. lol

Not a beer fan other than to loosen up my vocals for when I spit into a mic. Other than that, i'm not much of an alcohol guy really. Never found a wine sweet enough and not dry enough to like. Every one leaves my mouth feeling a bit gritty, with that said, Ive not tried many wines. but i might be into trying to make some wine to see how it turns out. Who knows, maybe I turn my property into a vineyard and make it rich with some good recipe I twist to my own.

A wonderful sweet wine when served chilled is a chenin blanc sweet. I tried it in the Napa valley and it was superb. Also, if you like a sweet white wine, I would suggest an ice wine. A sauterne or Moscato is very delicious.

Ill check them out. Thanks,

Oh dear. Lucia was resting under the grapevines. Gray cats are almost invisible in shadow so I didn't see her when watering the garden and she got sprayed with the hose.

That was morning and she still hasn't spoken to me.

spoken meaning she wont converse, but still gives curt yes and no’s? Or simply wont utter a word and sits mostly with her back facing you?

Means she stayed out all day, came home for supper, walked right past me and when I tried to pet her veered away. Went back out as soon as she ate.

eh. She will get over it. She knows who feeds her. :)

Sounds like a spouse with an injured psyche. We call it the silent treatment. Men, anyone else besides me who's experienced this?

I'm only joking, but I've been watching a lot of Gordon Ramsey lately:

"That looks like a dog dinner!"

LOL, me too.

Did you see his 10 minute fish and chip video he put out a couple of days ago on youtube?

I haven't, but it's going on next.

Edit: why does Gordon always look like he just did a bunch of coke?

Last summer camping I picked up my can of sprite and there was a yellow jacket on it and it stung me on the lip, I had to drink lots of Knob Creek to deal with the swelling.

I love how this thread has turned into food porn thanks to @crandc - I just wish the quality of the photographs was better.

I've found putting egg whites on the wound will suck the poison out quickly for stings and bites..just use the eggshell for the clear fresh egg whites and put it on until dry several times...it provides some relief

All spiders and all centipedes are poisonous.
You also could have been stung by some sort of bee.

Or wasp. Maybe spider too small for serious damage. Definitely not centipede, never seen centipedes in garden. Whatever. I'm fine.
