Schonz was a Seattle guy. He called hockey and baseball games in Seattle for 14 years before he started calling Blazer games. I guess Harry Glickman was also clueless about the pulse of this city, too. Thank god he was.

Ok, you win. Hire all the Seattle guys.

Thanks, but it's not my call. I just found it ironic, and shortsighted, that so many posters are vehemently against hiring anyone from Seattle when the most venerated broadcaster in Portland history was a "Seattle guy".

Thank you!

Times have changed. The fan base, at least a pretty decent number of them, are concerned about this team leaving in a couple of years to Seattle when the lease is up. I think it would be completely foolish for the front office to bring in a "Seattle guy"

Says, the guy from Houston. That's pure speculation on your part.

Ok, who do you recommend they hire as a play-by-play guy that would be better than Kevin Calabro?

Calabro hasn't called a Seattle game in over 8 years. When the lying hillbilly owners stole the team and moved them to Cowtown, he told the new owners to go fuck themselves. At east he has that in common with Portland fans. He hates the OKC Thunder. I could bond with him over that alone.

Where do you get this from? I rarely hear anyone talk about being fearful of the team moving to Seattle. And you cant bring up people here on SportsTwo, we are super fans. The average fan here in PDX has very little fear of it happening, it's not talked about. You still live in Texas correct? There is no way you can have an accurate sense of the pulse of PDX from Texas.

Not to mention, the guy is fucking fantastic. To you skeptics, try listening to Game 6 on ESPN Radio tonight. He's calling the finals games nationally.

Yep, unless the new guys are an upgrade, what's the fucking point?

I have no idea who would be better or worse. I don't think Barrett was worse, though. Calabro is 59, which would seem odd to to me to bring in someone that old. Not sure why I think that, just do.

The inferiority complex is madness. Dudes, you guys gotta quit being so scared of Seattle. smh

Seriously. Paul is NOT moving the team to Seattle. We are a single sport town. You don't find more loyalty and long term fan presence than in single sport towns.

MM is just trying to spawn drama...when there isn't even a muddy puddle for a tadpole to grow.

paranoid fans who have no real grasp on reality have that fear.

If the team wanted to leave, they wouldn't upgrade the RG, they would've have bothered selling the naming rights. They would have already signed with comcast and not given a shit about the availability. They would tell damian to not embrace the community, they wouldn't have uniforms that say "rip city". One thing they would do is get rid of the radio announcer who was arguably the most important of the 4 guys in this issue (Wheels, Rice, Antonio and Barrett).

They would be setting many things in motion for the team to move.

Also, the earliest they can move is 2023. That't not for another SEVEN years.

As i said earlier in the thread, you're telling me that the NBA would be all hell bent on moving a team to Seattle, that hasn't had a team (at that time) in 17 years!? Talk about going into a dead market.

The NBA knows that old markets do not equal smart $$. Yes, they went to New Orleans after 20+ years, but that was a special circumstance. But notice that the team that did move to New Orleans (Charlotte) was quickly replaced.

Charlotte returned like 2 years later. Seattle hasn't had an NBA team in 8 years now. And they're no where near ready for a return.

Let's get off the paranoid spaceship folks.

Exactly! I have never had a single fan mention the team moving to Seattle to me in person. It's just the paranoid wackos in this forum. A lot of stupid shit gets said around here. Some of it purposely intended to get a reaction. Some of it out of boredom. I seriously doubt one single season ticket holder cancels their season tickets if the Blazers hire Kevin Calabro as their new play-by-play guy.

I agree with ya on that. But if they want a national name, big time guy with experience/clout, they are going to have to hire someone a little older.

59 is not old for a play-by-play guy. Several of them call games well into their 70s.

Yes, but that's basically the Mike and Mike tenure. Seems to me they'd want someone longer term, unless McGowan wants to change it out every couple of years.....which is dumb IMO

Bullshit. I know better. :)

Look the blazers are trying to fix something that wasn't broken. No fan of mike and mike should have an open mind to this change.

Whoever they hire will suck in comparison until proven otherwise.

You don't know who I know :)

But ive also heard behind the scenes that rice and barrett dont like each other much.
I've seen these two together in the wild, and I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if there is any bad blood at all between these two. You can't fake that kind of chemistry.

"In a couple years," lol...

Try 2025.

I know it isn't going to happen but if I had a choice at all I would want Jalen Rose and David Jacoby to come in. Those are two of my favorite basketball guys. Jalen knows the game and is funny as hell! #gtgtpwtw

You can. Its called being diplomatic. I do it at work all the time. Cant stand certain people but i treat them like my best buddy.

Again, the person who told me this wouldnt lie. And i cant state who they are. But it very well could have been at a time they were tired of each other (it was at the end of a season) and just venting.

Mic him up during playing time
That would start a new level of shit talk. "The formal play by play al a Babe Ruth.” Picture this...

CJ:. Okay, I'm going to get the in bounds from Damian, cross over James harden, and tear drop it in over so.

James harden: the fuck? You know I can hear you. Hey, you son of a bitch, you made that.

And here I thought you liked me. Sob.

I want to point out how cutely pathetic and paranoid some of you are to honestly buy into the idea that a firing of broadcasters 7 years... let me say that again... 7 years before the contract with the city expires, is a sure sign that they are further posturing to move the team to Seattle.... Seattle who won't even issue permits to build a stadium financed by a private party. Ohh and Paul Allen is simply going to walk away from the Stadium he already owns and paid for? And to do what move a "Seattle Rival" team into Seattle in hopes that the Play by Play guy who used to call Sonics games has won over the city because games were on Root.

You so Funny
