and they should be forced to have vasectomies until they retire also.

my friend had it right I think.

He said if he was a big sports star and got married, he'd have the understanding that he was going to have some ladies on the side when his team was out of town and if wifey wasn't down with that, no ring.

Then why bother getting married? Seems stupid if you're understanding is you're going to be with other people. Easy solution is just not to get married until you are ready.

Many sport athletes have this agreement.

why do you both think marriage is necessarily monogamous?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_marriage

Because there's little point to marriage unless you're willing to make the sacrifice to be monogamous. In fact, in the vast majority of marriages (including mine), it's not a sacrifice at all. An open marriage is just a bullshit facade. You can have a different opinion, and we'll agree to disagree.

I waited a long time to get married. Why? Before I met my wife, I dated four other women I would have married. However, I hadn't yet sowed my wild oats. Why would I marry someone if I still intended to sleep with someone else? Marriage means vows. I know that sucks for some people, but IMO those people shouldn't get married.

Sam Perkins, a star on the Lakers and Sonics, always told reporters that he wouldn't get married while he was a player. He got married in his mid or late 30s, I think.

(I like the word "player" being there.)

Derek Jeter should be the blueprint for all professional athletes.

Stupid.

If I were a potential wife, I'd have no problem with that. Then, after gather a year's worth of evidence, would file for divorce and be rich.

Well Hopefully you call get a chuckle out of this photo taken after the incident....

You seem to define marriage as being entirely about making a monogamous commitment, for me (and obviously at the ripe old age of 22 this is mostly conjecture on my part) it's much more of an emotional and financial commitment. Maybe for some people making an emotional commitment requires monogamy, but certainly not everyone. Humans aren't, after all, naturally monogamist.

I had many of the same ideas when I was 22; I'm older now. We'll agree to disagree.

During the Clinton years, the media was 1-sided about persecuting him. I was always surprised that no one in the media took the opportunity to feature articles about those who dislike the institution of marriage.

Polls showed the majority of Americans supported Clinton throughout, despite the unanimous hatred of him by the media. And large amounts of comedy ridicule marriage, like the top-rated at the time Fox comedy "Married With Children." So there must be tens of millions of us opposed to the institution.

I would expect Libertarians to oppose marriage.
