Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

If after all this and Batum ends up signing for the QO he should fire his agent ASAP.

Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

I have faith in Olshey (why I don't know, it's just a hunch) holding strong in negotiations; Minnesota will have to overpay in a S and T or Batum will end up back in Portland. I really think we are in the better negotiating position; they want him really bad and it wouldn't be a terrible thing for Portland to have to overpay some to keep him.

This is the hold up IMO...Until MIN offers up Derrick Williams there will not be a S&T...

I'd be pissed if I was Olshey....You offer a contract that you cannot or seem unwilliing to put on paper b\c you know we may call you on it, then you ask for POR help...POR HELP to do a S&T and then for that help you want to give them a bunch of crap (Rid w\2yrs left, Webster, Wes Johnson) in return for doing YOU a favor and getting the best player in the deal.....

That is not how this works, if you want POR to do you a favor and do a S&T then give them something they want\can build on.....Ridnour is not that, niether is Webster or Wes Johnson or a draft pick that will be in the late teens\early twenties of a more than likely weak draft....That is an insult, especially to a division rival....

And where is Batum's agent in all of this? If I were Olshey I would be leaning on him right now....You want your client to get that big contract? You want to get him to where he wants to go? Then tell Kahn\MIN to stop screwing around and make the deal with POR....

Right now the leverage is moving towards POR each day, b\c they don't have to do anything...The only way MIN can gain some leverage is to make all those moves\cuts and sign Batum to the offer sheet, which screws up a lot of thier other planned moves...

MIN is being greeedy right now, Olshey should tell them to go pound sand....

I disagree on the "tainted" stuff. If Nic's get a solid offer from POR he will IMO eventually be happy. Nate is gone, bunch of new players comin in and likely a coach that will utulize his and others talents better,.

What's your idea of a solid offer?

You don't just give Batum $11.5 mil if you're the Blazers. As a match, sure you consider it. But you don't just outright offer it.

You offer him $8-9mil. And that's still not going to make him happy.

Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

Batum should be mad at Minny, getting his panties all wet and then not giving it up to seal the deal.

The guy has obviously been sold a bill of goods by his agent. He has an inflated self worth and I don't think he's going to be happy with anything under 11 or 11.5 a year. There's no way he's worth that, so we should really be looking at other options to trade him.

That's what I'm saying (maybe not the trade part, but the rest).

Whether Minne makes an official offer or not, they've told Nic their value to him.

So they've already tainted him for us in that respect. At $9mil, I don't bat an eye. But $11.50mil? Makes you think......

Perfectly said. My thoughts exactly. Especially about his agent. "You can't offer a player that will be coming off the bench behind Nic and KLove? How much do you really want my client"

Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

Exactly, I was under the impression that the max a 4 year player could sign for was like 14.5 per year or something like that.

just saying, the max aint what it used to be

Yeah, Minne is messed up. When you don't have the room to acquire a RFA, the general way you go about this is to talk to the player, talk in very general terms, say we'd like you to join our team, and then you tell the player you are going to attempt to see if the teaming owning the player's rights would consider a sign-and-trade.

Usually you go through this before agreeing to a contract you cannot even offer.

Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

cant wait till the blazers sign ricky rubio to an offer sheet

Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

So did the ish-storm of gay porn from the Timbertrolls end up hitting the board last night or what?

Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

It's funny how the tone on the twolves realgm page has changed since yesterday. Prior to 9pm PST is was, f(*@ the Blazers - Batum doesn't want to be there anyway. Roy/Love/Rubio/Batum/Williams was going to kill in the western conference. Now the realization is setting in that Kahn WAS bluffing and they realize how the team would need to be gutted for a RFA offer, or Portland would be looking at a combination of Williams/Barea/picks in a S&T.

I have to say, many of you have been saying these very scenarios for at least a week with no one outside this S2 forum listening (Not even the local media jumped on this until 9:01pm last night it seemed). This is a great forum for both well-informed contributors, and dark humor. I love it.

Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

Definitely. And his agent is an idiot for going with the first boy to ask him to the dance.

He has an inflated self worth and I don't think he's going to be happy with anything under 11 or 11.5 a year.

He's worth $11 mil by some measures (see the whole wages of wins thing) and I'd venture that he's pissed that Nate has deflated his perceived worth.

I also think he's naive; he's all of 23 and trying to make his way in the business with a shit-for-brains agent who's spending more time drooling over his potential 10% than giving his client the best tools to succeed.

There's no way he's worth that, so we should really be looking at other options to trade him.

I disagree because fundamentally my opinion of his worth is different. However, if his agent has sent Nic into sandbagger mode, we should think about other avenues. Though, if after a year of a nice 5-year deal with a player option after 4 he feels better about the team, we might be able to recover some of that lost trust, no matter if the lack of trust is legitimate or not.

I'd do that every day of the week, and twice on Sundays. Looks like Olshey is waiting for some sweetener from Kahn if a Batum for Williams was a definitive NO earlier...

They'll be back. I have been told that Kahn offered these Timbertrolls each 2 cases of Molson Ice and a year's supply of chewing tobacco for them to harass us. In addition, he will talk to Minne state reps about legalizing incestuous relations, as well as beastiality.

Re: Minnesota: full of shit?

Has a team ever negged on a deal to a RFA after a crazy song and dance like this? I can't imagine it would be good for your reputation.

The thing is, I don't think he's worth that kind of money. People keep comparing him to other deals, but it sure seems like teams are slow to adjust to the new CBA. Paying someone like Batum 11.5 million per year is the old way of thinking. With the new CBA, guys like Batum shouldn't be making anywhere near that kind of money. If someone like Hibbert is worth the max, which is somewhere around 14 million, why would a guy like Batum be worth 11.5 or 12 million per year?

The answer: he's not.

Batum should be making around 8 million per year. Tops. Max or near max deals should be reserved for established stars. Guys like Aldridge, Hibbert, Griffin, Chris Paul, etc. The league needs to stop paying for potential. Batum has never averaged over 15 ppg and yet he wants near-max-money? Hell to the no.

You're assuming Kahn cares about something like that. Everything we've seen about him (and stuff I've posted about him) begs to differ.
