I would enjoy the sponsorships by Portland area massage parlors and would love to see what kind of marketing they'd come up with.
That's what I was thinking with Portland Fantasy ;)

Lingerie Night. B&D Night. S&M Night. Free <ahem> toys to the first 1000 into the park.

I have a feeling they are going to come up with something that's not an animal.

Probably something more esoteric, or I don't want to say nebulous, but something less tangible than animals and fairy tale creatures.

Something water or river related would be something to think about.

OTOH: They are going to need to grow their fan base, which I would think would include a heavy dose of appealing to children to both get their parents out to the park and to develop them as future ticket holders.

For marketing, how might they perhaps compete with or interest young fans of computer/on-line/video games?
I'm guessing you're right although fish or otters would be a way to incorporate both an Oregon animal and the water.

Rose City River Otters

This is stupid but what about Ports?

It is likely to be located on the old Port of Portland land, is on the river, port is part of a boat, and it sounds like Portland.

They should do the Portland Knights, not to pay homage to Phil, but for historical reference to the cities past with the KKK!

It's going to be the Portland Portlanders duh.

Portland Pathfinders!!1!

Actually, what about Portland Scouts? Portland Gauchos!

Portland Grey Foxes, with the nickname of the Greys.

And if you're not a fan of the team, the nickname could be "the Gheys".

(apologizes to anyone who made that reference already)

We once had the Buckaroos
How about: Portland Tugaroos

So seriously though, what's the next step?

wait another 5 years for baseball to fix their issues and then probably watch as they change their minds about expansion.

But they have to keep moving forward with plans to build a stadium, no?

I would bet that they have some kind of promise from MLB that they should continue with the stadium stuff.

If they take the full 85 acres of T1 and T2 then I think they would have to find 85 acres of land to rezone as industrial since they are rezoning that land to entertainment. It might not have to be the full 85 acres but something along those lines.

There is a bunch of environmental stuff they have to clear.

Then there is the transportation issues. They have to get some sort of mass transit approved to that area, which would most likely be another Max route. The whole area's roads will need to be upgraded to accommodate all the traffic flowing to that area on game nights. As of right now there is no way that area could support 30,000 people going there for a game.
