Cool, but I don't think a gun on the logo would work in our city. Especially to now. Great design though.

What is the fascination with matching the first letters?

Portland doesn't have to be penguins. Pythons, etc. It could be Sea lions or Something else that doesn't start with a P
I was kinda wondering the same. It seems like when expansion is brought up anywhere, the fan bases start tossing out alliteration names, almost exclusively. 4 of the 30 MLB teams currently have the same letter for both. Pirates, Marlins, Phillies and Cubs. And Cubs doesn't have the same sound.
In NBA, you have 5 out of 30, which includes NY, since it's the same sound, but not same letter.
In NFL, you have 3 teams, I believe, out of 32.
I don't care about hockey, so not looking them up. 12 out of 92.

New York Yankees.

I view alliteration as a tiebreaker. I think "Ospreys" is the best name suggested here, regardless of alliteration. Lumberjacks would be cool too.

And then we can call them the Ozzies!

An addict engaging in their addiction will at least ask themselves in a crowded restaurant, "WTF am I doing with my life?!" or steal enough tips from the waitresses that will consider pulling the few machines there.

An establishment that operates like the 1 mentioned in the previous post, is like giving a loaded gun to a suicidal person.
But video poker is everywhere

How's that high schoolish? I can think of 1.HS I'm Vancouver that has alliteration with the mascot.
New York Yankees
Miami Marlins
Pittsburgh Pirates
Philadelphia Phillies
Chicago Cubs

That's at least 5.

I like Ospreys, not because of alliteration.
Yankees dont count. Nor do Cubs. Miami barely does cause they were Florida originally.

Again, if it happens, so be it. I just hope it's not high on the list of importance

I think we should just name the team Doug. Not the Portland Doug or the Oregon Doug. Just Doug. We could claim it's short for Douglass Fir, but I just want to look at the standings and be able to quickly pick out my team:

Seattle Mariners
Doug
San Francisco Giants
Oakland A's

See how it jumps out.

I also want to be able to go to the games and cheer "Go Doug!".

Sometimes there is elegance in simplicity.

BNM

One of these things is not like the other....

No, not the “Doug” that doesn’t exist....

One is a storied franchise with many rings and many HOFers.

Don’t ever put my SF Giants in that heaping pile of shit again, ever. FAMS!!

You’re so much better than that. This might be your worst post. Ever.

Yeah! Like Ricky Henderson and Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco!

The Portland Not To Be Used Without The Written Consent of Major League Baseball

New York Yankees??

And the Cubs count if you're just talking about the first letter.

New York Knicks
Los Angeles Lakers
San Antonio Spurs
Washington Wizards
Cleveland Cavaliers
Ne
Same concept though.

There is a city down here named Sugar Land.
I hope you see the difference between "Sugar Land" and "Portland".

I dont see a difference. It could easily have been Port Land and Sugarland

Doesn't seem fair to lump New York into the group for both names. Knicks and Yankees.

Lakers is dumb because it was Minneapolis first. Are there lakes in Los Angeles?

Wizards is dumb also. That's actually a great example of what I'm arguing against. Seems they chose that just because of phonics.

The P P , or O O thing is fine if it's got meaning behind it. But something like Portland Pythons or Oregon Orangutans is asinine if it's just because of P P or O O

But it's not Port Land... so youre dealing in false hypotheticals.

I was just posting teams with alliteration. That simple. Based on the first letter of one of the actual sections of a cities name starting with the same.letter as the nickname.

You missed where I said it's a tiebreaker... C'mon man.. read my posts better than that.
