Thats a small stadium. Correct me if im wrong, but I thought most baseball stadiums were in the 35-50 thousand area? Safeco is like 44 isnt it?
I think the issue with the diamond project vs rfthe Moda is the Moda is central. People leaving and going norht, south, east and west.
Where the proposed site is for the diamond project, EVERYONE will be heading east ( or west to the St. Johns Bridge)
But no one can go north or south really because of the hills and the water. highway 30 and Lombard will be a complete mess every game as I see it.
They're legit. They've invested way too much time and money to be doing it for some viral marketing scam. There is no way they could sell enough t-shirts to cover that. Some of you guys are way more in the know then me. So please don't take this as me bashing baseball or any of that. Is this PDXDiamond Project group legit? Everything I see from them is like a bad viral marketing campaign that seems to have no substance or just barely enough substance to try to sell some T-Shirts and hats. It just seems so weird to me, oh we have money, we won't tell you who though. Oh by the way, would you like to visit our store? I realize baseball isn't my thing, but in the midst of arguing if Bones and KS are the next Michael Jordan I was kind of looking around the internet at this group and in a way it almost comes off as scammy.
I realize this is probably overly critical, I am not a baseball guy, I wouldn't mind at all if we got a Baseball team.. Anyways how real do you think this is, do you think in a couple of years it'll go away with not much to show for it? Or in a half-decade or so we'll have a team?
True. They can do everything right and still not get a team. Right now they are set if they get a team. They have the Land available and the funding to get it. They have an agreement on a PLA to build. They also have the fabrication issues as well as logistics covered. Just need a team and some luck. They're legit. It doesn't mean they'll get a team in Portland. They can do everything in their power to make that happen and it still might not.
I heard for expansion 2025. For a team to relocate a couple years. So when do they start building? Will we get a team next season?

That's fair, I'm not at all a fan of baseball, but I'm not against the baseball team idea at all. I just feel like something is off with this particular (potential) ownership group. Nothing wrong with trying to sell your wares just seems like everything I can find on it is like marketing, hype machine. Maybe they came out of the woodwork too early and are kind of suffering (in my mind) from that.I think the viral marketing and t-shirt and hat business does come off kinda corny, but there really isn't much else they can do at this point to satisfy fan interest in the project, because the real work being done behind the scenes is going to take a some years to get done.
The games today were great, well I should really say the Michigan State / Duke game was great. My middle kid turned 3 today so I didnt really catch much of the other game.I hate baseball so much I turned down going to watch the Twins play today in a suite. Rather watch some college hoops in my room.
You couldn't watch college hoops in the suite?I hate baseball so much I turned down going to watch the Twins play today in a suite. Rather watch some college hoops in my room.
I'm sure they had a TV there. Just beat from this trip. Last 48 hours were long. Wanted to chill. You couldn't watch college hoops in the suite?

Curious why? You like March Madness better than the NBA, or college basketball in general?I will always love the Blazers, but I have to say I enjoy NCAA basketball more than the NBA.

They were always going to have to, the Oregonian article is primarily a Eudaly staffer throwing some shade on the prospects, and reiteration of facts that were already known.Looks like MLB in Portland will need to pony up for T2, unless they get an extension. Big money due end of month.
I guess other consideration are being look at because of the challenge with traffic at T2.
Its going to take some buy in from the City/tax payers to address some of the infrastructure challenges. If the City politicians don't step up and push this project it will probably happen somewhere else? Hope not but I wouldn't be surprised. They were always going to have to, the Oregonian article is primarily a Eudaly staffer throwing some shade on the prospects, and reiteration of facts that were already known.
TriMet, Metro, MultCo, and the State too since you're looking at a Max leg and a state highway. Still doesn't change that exclusive negotiation period had a price tag attached from word go, and I don't think anyone was expecting a team to be lined up within a year, nor for the construction to begin without a team. Its going to take some buy in from the City/tax payers to address some of the infrastructure challenges.
