Well, it helps that they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want there, and in Portland they ban urinals in bathrooms.
I think, though, this is just the A's using Vegas as leverage. But the cynic in me thinks even if the A's move to Vegas, and the Rays move to Montreal, MLB won't expand. And even if it does expand, they'll probably try to move back to Oakland and Tampa Bay (or another city not named Portland).
I guess we will see just how well the PDP and the City marketing goes!

They thought that in 1969 also.

Not sure if bringing up that the last time this city had anyone forward thinking was 50 years ago is such a good argument to make here.

According to many, that was over before it started.

Imho, for all intents and purposes, it's doesn't seem like a likely thing anymore. Especially with how difficult it's becoming to even figure out where to build the stadium.

Barrett just said the other day that the city has really been behind them making T2 work and was encouraged that it would.

I'm not saying they're for sure getting a team but what are they supposed to do or say right now? Once the season ends I expect that both the Oakland and Tampa Bay situations will be pushed along by more pressure to get either new stadiums or relocate. I think it would be good if both relocated to the rumored locations (Las Vegas and Montreal respectively). That literally leaves Portland as the only real player for an expansion team in the Pacific Time Zone.

It just seems like people are mistaking things not happening that can't really happen anyway as some sort of reasoning behind it not happening.

You think its at all possible that they got out in public too early?

Yep on both issues.
First T2 has and always will be the favorite site for the city and the PDP just because of the cost to build it and the infrastructure already in place. Here is another thing. If they were to choose to build at Lloyd Center kiss the NBA All-Star game away for at least 5-7 years. That area would not be able to handle that kind of event while construction of that nature is going on.
Second. Don't see any statement happening before the season is over. Possibly not until next year? In the end Portland wants an expansion team. Not a team that is moving. But either would be better than nothing.

Have you noticed new talks have started about the CRC? That has piqued my interest also.
