Being an Ironworker and having huge benefits available in having another large stadium built right in my own town i most certainly want this to happen.
The problem i have it having it happen for baseball.
Here is a problem. It's not just dropping in popularity it's dropping quickly.

There will always be baseball. Oh and it is the weather. Games are being canceled right and left. Nobody wants to see ballgames when there is still snow falling in some parts of the country. I swear, it still feels like the dead of winter for some reason.

No it's not just the weather. Their crowds are drying up. I agree baseball will always be around in one form or another. Maybe what they are doing is trying to start up new cities to breathe new life into the league. Portland might be just the place for that. Lets hope they get it and build a stadium and it is very successful. I know i would love to see it happen.

You'd have a hell of a time getting that much traffic across that river. Even if you improved the I-5 bridge, they're gonna install toll gates. Think of the backup.

I dont blame the fans not wanting to see tanking baseball teams. And that's happening at a frightening pace now. Places like Miami, Pittburgh, San Diego, etc. I still think once June and July comes around the Northern markets will adjust but there is no reason to see a bunch of AAAA players.

Rose Garden has all kinds of parking lots. Where are you gonna put 2/1 times as much parking in that area? This would also require 2 1/2 times as much MAX traffic which isn't feasible. Also, a MLB team is gonna require over 50,000 seats of capacity and a football team will require 80,000 or more, perhaps over 100,000.

Show me a professional study that shows it's feasible and I'll take another look.

Hey, I'd love us to build a stadium there but it's all a pipe dream where you just throw out the need for all that parking in an area that's short parking as it is. I use to live in NW Portland and I'm very familiar with that area. I've known that area since about 1957 or so. Lived there in 1959. Went to grade school at Chapman. Lived on NW 25th and Northrup. Great area but NO PARKING.

Try this, drive down NW 23rd. Avenue and try to find a parking spot.

I think you are the only one talking about putting it in NW (or not).

Las Vegas - A baseball team would have horrible attendance there. It's too hot as well. They already have a major team coming and I believe theyre smaller than us. Plus not sure baseball wants to dip it's toe there just yet.

Charlotte & Indy - Multiple major sports franchises and are no bigger than us.

Plus, I assume were growing faster than any other city except Vegas.. The only city that could/should rival is Montreal.

They also have 4 other teams in the region (Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, Pheonix). They also have that gambling issue that has dissuaded leagues in the past. They'd also have questionable fan support from the get go. Lot's of reasons to not go to Vegas.

Industrial Northwest Portland has tons of room for a stadium and parking.

I don't get why when people don't like something personally, they slam it and pretend that their opinion is the same as the majority's. There are people in Portland that hate the blazers yet the blazers still draw very well. There are people in Portland that hate the Timbers, yet they are one of the most successful teams in MLS. I don't think there is a terrible amount of crossover between a diehard NBA fan and a diehard MLB fan. To say that there isn't enough people that like baseball in Portland to support a team is just ridiculous.

There are plenty of people in the area that travel to Eugene and Corvallis for college athletics. There are also plenty that drive to Seattle for MLB and NFL games. And guess what, if you aren't one of those people that want to enjoy a baseball game then so be it. Let the rest of us enjoy it.

Also, lets get over this idea that baseball stadiums need to be situated next to massive parking lots. Look at almost every MLB park built since 2000. Where is the parking in SF, STL, Pitt, SD, Sea, etc. etc? Have any of you been to games? Just like with Timbers and Blazer games people will use mass transit. The stadium just needs to be near downtown and near transit. The Coliseum site would be a perfect fit for that. Ball parks are being built at about 35,000 seats now and games will not always be sold out so the average crowd would be similar to a Timbers match.

Can we not just be excited that our city might actually grow into a major league town? Start with MLB then maybe a NHL team moves in with the Blazers and then you have the NBA, MLB, MLS and NHL. Thats a major league town right there.

My biggest gripe with Portland is that we lack a major stadium to host any decent sized event. Out biggest stadiums are located in Eugene and Corvallis. There are so many other events that would come to portland with a bigger venue in town. How should this not be a win-win?

The stadiums you named undoubtedly had studies conducted on the feasibility of those sites. The feasibility studies done on a large stadium in Portland resulted in either Delta Park or in the Eastern part of SE Portland. Show me a study that reaches a different conclusion. Go ahead, I'm willing to consider it.

Well, the A’s aren’t very good and they play in arguably the worst stadium in the MLB, only competition they have for worst is the Rays at Tropicana Field.
