I use to go to a lot of games in the 60's as they had players like Hank Greengrass, George Freese, Sam McDowell, Luis Tiant and sweet Lou Pinella along with many others. Back then there wasn;t near as many Major League teams so the AAA teams would end up with some pretty good talent. Pretty much the same situation with the Buckaroos as they had players that by todays standards would be NHL players but played in the minors due to not many spots available in the NHL.
 
The key to a good pro sports team is the ability to make up cool nic names for them.

The Trail Blazers are just the Blazers.

What cool nicname would the Pioneers have? The Neers? The Pi? The Pions?
 
I'd love to see Pat Casey coach the team if we get one in Portland...he's as good as they get.

Beavers averaged around mid 5,500 in the mid to late 2000 years and then moved to Salt Lake City and that's minor league baseball. I don't know if there are archives of attendance records but I know when I went to the games in the 60's that the place was pretty packed and the population of Portland was significantly smaller.

Plus there's a lot of people like me, who don't give a rats ass about minor league sports.
 
And MLB is crossing the street and walking faster for no obvious reason.

He's certainly good for college ball. So i might work but remember not all things transfer well to the pros.
 
I don’t really like baseball, but if it’s privately funded I won’t complain. I’d rather an NHL team.

The negative line is Portland is being used to leverage a stadium and to push other cities to sweeten the deal. But that last story seems to cover some of that. And really who cares if Portland is being used in this deal? There is no proposed bond up for special election to get us to pony up more money.
The "Stalking Horse" statement has no real merit at this point. Worst case scenario is Portland doesn't get a team. Best case scenario is Portland gets another Major league team. Whether he likes or will watch any of the games is kind of irrelevant. There will be those that do and it continues to expand this city's horizon.

No singular names. The Thunder/Jazz/Heat/Magic is awful.
 
Not gonna happen. It’s been reported that it can’t happen until 2022 at the earliest. They also under-bid on the potential property owned by PPS. There’s no way this thing works.

Curious what you were posting on here back in ‘66 when there was a thread about how an NBA team might be coming to PDX?
