I kind of said that a few months ago in this thread. Im not a baseball fan, but I’m not against it. Maybe they just dont have any news, but things definitely seem to have slowed down.
It's all behind the scenes stuff. They can't go all-in until they get a team. So until the A's and the Rays have their situations resolved or one of them come here then there will be no news.

Im aware of that, something’s always felt weird about this group to me though, like I don’t really trust them. I still hope Portland gets a team, even if its with this group.
I assume when they’re “quiet” its more or less a they just don't have any news to share.

Building a stadium at T2 is going to take at least 3 years. I just don't know what they're supposed to say.

You don't trust Mike Barrett? The dude is like as pure as the driven snow.

He’s just the face though...
So you are saying that the rest of the participants are using him and he isn't smart enough to know it? Or are you insinuating that he is smart enough and really does know it's all a front and he just doesn't really care because there is money involved?
This is where conspiracy theories start to tear apart good people. Here is my opinion. I think the entire thing is being done by good people who are trying to do something good for this city. I believe the people involved are truly invested in this and they are doing their very best to make it successful. I feel they are going to have to make some hard decisions and they will indeed have to sell it to those who are not as optimistic that it can be successful.
This is a long road. Making this happen has already created jobs and the entire venture would effect a great number of people. Tearing it down on a premise that it could be all just a hoax is wrong. Way too many solid people involved in this.

I'm saying that I am always cautious about sales pitches, and people who want to sell me a product they don't actually have yet. I'm saying they had a lot of steam about this time last year (maybe not quite a year), but then while their waiting has kind of become just a merchandise selling group. I understand they have to play a waiting game, for the MLB, and the city and there are a lot of factors that go into it. I just haven't ever been comfortable with this particular group. Who they get as their face doesn't really mean a lot to me. I like Barrett and I believe sure there might be a lot of well-intended people behind it but, that doesn't mean that it's going to happen, and that doesn't mean that they know what they're doing either.

Edit: Also when did I say "tear it down?" Are they so far beyond reproach that they can't be questioned...?

Look Mike Barrett Is the Managing Director.
He isn't just the face.

I have a hard time believing he isn't fully invested.

Ok they gave him a title, did you think the title would be “Face of...”?
Im not saying he isn't fully invested, and they aren't trying, I just have my doubts.

Im allowed to respectfully have my doubts just as much as you’re allowed to not doubt it.

Well you do have a point there.

Why would anyone go to any game at that shit hole of a stadium?
Maybe it's just me but it would be fun to go to Tampa and go to a game with so few people there. It's like you have the stadium to yourself! Imagine how easy it would be to go after foul balls and home runs.

Is the implication the reason SD changed so much was the stadium?
The plan was to build a whole district around the ball park. This has been super effective in Denver and now Atlanta too. This is what they want to do in Portland. It's also what Paul Allen wanted to do around the Rose Garden too but they were pretty limited by space in that area.

If the stadium gets built at T2 that whole area will become restaurants, shops, offices, and living space.

I'm not familiar with the Denver and Atlanta projects, but San Diego was a very different situation than T2. When the stadium was built in SD, the convention center was already across the street. In addition, there was a underutilized warehouse district surrounding the ballpark that could be redeveloped, a la the Pearl district here. The ballpark site was also at the hub of the existing trolley system.

None of that exists at T2. Everything has to be built from scratch. That doesn't mean it won't work - but SD is not the model.
