"I heard we lost conventions" L M A O. Portlands perception among the rest of the country has never been worse. These sound like comments from someone that hasnt travelled since covid.Portland was kinda the lightning rod for all the BLM protests though. Certain news networks made it sound like the entire city was burning. I don't think that perception has left people's minds. I heard we lost a lot of conventions.
T2 is the only one feasible for downtown. Now Loyd Center? That was a joke. They've only sold hats. Their Terminal 2 plan was an absolute joke.

No. Sports-related threads that are of interest to Blazer fans often exist and will continue to exist in the main forum. The non-sports stuff, however, will generally be relocated. This is fine here. Please move to the OT forum.

Consider this also my response to your similar request in the Ducks and Timbers threads (although that one might be up for consideration if the content therein becomes exclusively political).
Perceptive people. This isn't that new either. I had a friend move here from the midwest 8ish years ago. His parents were concerned because they thought we were hippies, Godless heathens and perpetual reefer smokers (ala Reefer madness, they felt weed would ruin your life).
LEAVE IT HERE....Move this post to the OT forum!
They thought him moving here would ruin his life and they were scared of visiting. Until they came here and realized its not as different as they assumed it would be. Different, but not lawlessness everywhere.Perceptive people.
It take real leadership to bring a major sport to a city, like Blazers. There hasn't been that kind of leadership in this town since Glickman.
If baseball comes here it will be because of leadership from Wilsonville, Beaverton, Beavercreek, etc.
Threw a change up at ya!Beavercreek??
This is so old.... the rest of this country is as fucked up or more than Portland. Not going to waste my time again typing all the names of cities whose downtowns are still boarded up. Get out and see the real world if you don't believe me. The perceptions about us are there because of what was reported. Let me know if you need to know specific cities.
It's gonna take a citywide effort to get our city back to where it should be. But we all have to do our part. Cleaning up trash, and not littering. Looking out for your neighbors. The city has to prosecute those who engage as houligans, and spread graffiti. Put these idiots on labor forces to paint over the graffiti, and pick up garbage. Commission artist to paint murals on large walls. The beautification will take some time but it can happen. Once that happens, the Ownership group can proceed with getting a MLB franchise. But they have to do their part too. They can't have a fly by night financing plan to build that beautiful stadium north of the Fremont Bridge. They have to be ready to go, and go Hard. I want to see it happen. That area north of the bridge is pretty nice, and would be great. I am all for protest, but the real protesters need to do their part too , by not allowing these houligans to hijack what their protesting, as a means to be an idiot.
Exactly..I think it starts with electing smarter people to run the city. Tough love is sorely needed.
Politicians are a lot like Athletes. You see the potential, but if they don't break through, you have to start over. The sad thing is politics became a career, instead of serving the community and moving on. It's about that power, instead of what, and how, can i get these tasks done. At least , it seems, you can make change immediately at the local level. Nat'l level Fagettaboutit.I think it starts with electing smarter people to run the city. Tough love is sorely needed.
The number one objective of most politicians is to be re-elected, and that goal does not always align with what’s best for their constituents. My opinion has always been that politics should not be a career. Because it is a career, people will do and or say whatever they need to in order to still have a job. It would be like going to a job interview and answering their bullshit questions honestly. Nobody does it.Politicians are a lot like Athletes. On this, we totally agree. 4 years, and move on. If you're a mayor, move on to be a representative, senator, or governor. Then on and on. There needs to be some kind of urgency to get elected and then get stuff done. Tired of these fuckers spending four years doing nothing. On this, we totally agree. 4 years, and move on. If you're a mayor, move on to be a representative, senator, or governor. Then on and on. No static positions.
Any new news on this front?
I want baseball here more than most but I've always been cynical. Mainly because they wanted to sell merch before even securing a damn thing.
