Again Providence Park has a unique access to max and it works well with a number of parking options because it’s directly on both the Blue and red lines.

I guess you are agreeing with me. That is my point. However being truthful the Moda having 3000 spaces covers quite a bit. You got to figure about 2-3 people per car. Not sure many go to a game alone?
The original point was that both the Moda and Providence Park are right on Max lines. The Moda has the Red, Blue and Yellow lines running right in front of it. This new stadium has only the street car and that system would need to be upgraded to say the least.

Yellow Line turns into the Orange Line Downtown. The Yellow and Orange Lines are essentially the same line.

Just south of the Ross Island Bridge (about 500 feet ) is the South Waterfront neighborhood.

If you haven't explored this area, it's really nice with a beautiful waterfront with parks and benches and paths.

The South Waterfront Greenway would be an awesome place to relax before a game, and/or the way to get to the game by bicycle/ foot / etc.

Inside the neighborhood are cool alleyways and walking around here is very pleasant.

With the addition of a few sports bars it would be a perfect place before and after a baseball game.

It kind of feels ready-made for such a purpose. This area has not been affected by what we've seen in other areas of Portland.

The deck of the USS Gerald R. Ford is 4.5 acres.

PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

is PNC flood-prone?
Not particularly. I’m assuming that in the design phase of building pnc park, since it’s on a river, they looked at the FEMA 50-100 year flood maps, did flood analysis where they model what areas would be flooded based on x amount of river raise, and built retaining walls (like those near the river walk/just flat out built high enough, and have sump pumps in the basements in case something gets in. Barring a dam busting upstream I don’t thing anything would happen to PNC.

Obviously 1996 would be part of the planning of a ball field near the river.

Also, in 1996 people came out in droves to help put up a barrier on waterfront park. We aren't going to just sit around watching it get flooded.

That was kind of the perfect scenario for flooding. Weeks of heavy snow followed by a week of very warm heavy rain.

Terrible location. New stadiums and arenas want nightlife and things to do before and after games, this will not have it. Parking will be horrible.

This has now been on people's desks for over a month. I still have not seen even one reasonable rendering on building on that site. Everyone is saying it will be very expensive to work around the existing structures and dealing with the lack of usable space.
Starting to think they better start selling more hats...

I was mostly being sarcast... But it seems like we should probably be able to figure this out. There are countries building whole new islands. It doesn't seem outlandish that we would be able to figure out how to build a baseball stadium with a portion where there is currently a riverbank and a bit of river.

No question it can be done. They can just dam the Willamette river for that matter.

Well, damming the Willamette probably wouldn't be necessary.

Is there a better location for a stadium? What would you suggest?

I guess, the answer to your question of "why", would be that it's easier or more attainable than other options.

I don't actually know if that's the case. But it seems like if that were the only option they could figure out how to build a stadium in that location without the price being so high that it would torpedo the whole idea.

But from your perspective (as somebody with some clear expertise in this) I am curious what alternatives would you suggest?
