I live in Oregon City, which is the oldest incorporated city west of the Rocky Mountains. So, technically, Stumptown is a suburb of Oregon City. Just sayin’ FAMS!

Thats 100% true. OC was a thriving metropolis before Pettygrove /Stark even acquired Stumptown.
The reason Portland took off fast was when the ships got heavier they couldn't navigate past Ross Island.

That's exciting stuff. You will love Portland. It's a great city with a lot of character, and coming from NY it will all probably seem very cheap to you. The weather in the winter can be a little dreary but if you can tolerate some rain it's pretty mild compaired to the east coast. Careful you might love it and never leave.
