Moving up for Clingan?

oh for fucks sake...enough of this bullshit

that's a theory; and taking theory into wild idiot fantasy is useless yapping about a slow, plodding 7'3 player who shot 9 three's from the college 3 point line in 2 years, only making 2 of them at the same time he shot less than 56% on 226 FT's

how the fuck did 3 point shooting potential even become a possible virtue of Clingan? I keep seeing a comparison to Lopez. Here's a fact: over his first 8 seasons in the NBA Lopez only shot a total of 31 three's; he made 3 of 31. He didn't start shooting three's until his 9th season when he was 28. In his first 8 seasons, when he wasn't shooting three's, he averaged about 3 offensive rebounds a game. Over the next 4 seasons as a three point shooter, he averaged less than 1 offensive rebound. And he shot around 34.3% on three's when the NBA average was around 36%
Yeah he certainly wasn’t putting 3’s up at the beginning of his career for sure. Lopez added that to his game and it probably added a few years to his career to be honest.

Out of all the scenarios, drafting clingan at 7 is the most disappointing. If we MOVE UP to draft him I’m gonna be pissed. No thanks.

I agree with the latter but would be about right at 7.

Yeah I agree but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

If we take him at 7 I will be disappointed but I can convince myself to understand. I will not understand if we move up to get him.
Move up for Risacher, if the price is right. Though he's now top pick on some recent mocks

you're more understanding than I am

according to lots of 'reporting' and chatter, the Blazer front office spent nearly 2 years coveting Ayton. This even though, again according to rumors, Dame did not want Ayton and supposedly Cronin was doing everything he could to keep Dame around (which more and more I suspect was PR bullshit). Anyway, the Blazers supposedly spent 2 years coveting an overpaid C and finally found the chance to land him as part of trading away the franchise player they were trying to keep...until they weren't

and of course that all fit with Portland's schizophrenic 'we-can't-pick-a-lane-so-we'll-straddle-every-fence-we-can' roster-building plan

so less that 9 months after landing the high paid COTF in Ayton, the Blazers spend a minimum of a 7th pick on another COTF. A decision almost guaranteed to trigger the malcontent persona of the high-paid current COTF.

in my view this is a timeline of dumb fucking mismanagement. The only thing making it dumber would be if that same front office actually believes the 2 COTF can play together....geeeezuzz

I hope to god all this Clingan noise is just that, noise

Where in the rule book does it say we need to get rid of one Center if we draft another? You play the best 5 players. If it means playing both Clingan and Ayton so he it.

Y'all remember the twin towers in San Antonio? Draft Edey also and let's run the Triple Towers!

Hey, I love me some good ol' fashioned post play, too. That's why Boban-the-unstoppable gets all the minutes.
Look at what Boban averages per minute played. He puts up all star numbers. Edey is physically capable of playing more.

Exactly. I believe some are freaking out over nothing.
Maybe - I don't think any of these rumors would come out from the Blazers. My fear is the Blazers have been discussing trades with other teams for Clingan and that is how the rumors are getting out. We certainly have heard rumors prior to Blazer deals before - Ayton, Sharpe pick, Grant, etc.

This is for a guy that hasn't been drafted though. So the Blazers in theory could be calling teams who have higher picks and when the team asks our front office who the target is they just say maybe Clingan every time and that's their smokescreen.

Maybe it really is Clingan but I'm holding onto some hope here because if we trade up for that dude I'll be livid.

This is a two part topic.

1) moving up
2) player Blazers want.

Exploring trades that also include moving up, is a normal process every gm should be conducting. No real news here.

As far as who the Blazers want. How can anyone assume who the Blazers want, based on rumors?

Going back to moving up to pick Zack.

Rumors had Bam's great workout making him the Blazers pick. I had Mitchell as the pick, BPA. Heck many "experts" had Zack as the second best Collins, to John.

A case can be made, based on rumors, that the Blazers had Zack at the bottom of the list of these 4 players.

If you’re not into Clingan, who are you into?

I don’t like us picking Clingan. At all. Full stop.

but this lottery is rough. It’s hard to feel particularly strong ‘for’ any one player because everyone has massive holes in their game.

maybe clingan is a smokescreen. But if he isn’t I’m willing to hear the rationale.

Otherwise trade Brogdon/ 7/ 14 to move up to 2. Don't call me out on the value....I don't know.

yep

help me out here....didn't this rumor about Portland wanting to move up for Clingan first come from Jonathon Givony? And didn't Givony and Mike Schmitz work together for years? And aren't they still close friends?

and besides all that, hasn't Cronin been pretty transparent about his plans? There were plenty of rumors he was going to tear down the Dame-CJ team before he tore down the Dame-CJ team. We heard months of substantial rumors about Grant heading into the off-season. And he got Grant. We heard that he liked Sharpe, a lot; and he drafted Sharpe. There were rumors he was shopping Payton approaching the deadline; and he traded Payton before the deadline. We heard almost 2 years of rumors about him being in love with Ayton. And Ayton turned out to be the biggest asset he got from the Dame trade. And we heard there was no way he'd trade Dame to Miami and wasn't event talking to Miami. And he traded Dame to Milwaukee.

and to the dismay of many of us, we heard plenty of rumors that Portland wasn't actively engaged in trade talks prior to last season's trade deadline; and the only trade they made was Banton

so. sure, it's possible that Cronin is using that reputation in some sort of triple-deflection tactic to disguise who he really wants and has engaged Givony to be the front man. But it sure seems likely that the Blazers are targeting Clingan and Clingan might become Cronin's Zach Collins debacle

He wants "not your usual rookie" players, that can win now... He's all in going for it....

Agreed. No matter how we feel about Joe, he or any other GM is not going to say who their target is before the draft. They are either going to keep their mouth shut, or they are going to lie, lie and then lie again. And since I read all last summer that Joe is a liar...I feel confident that he is not telling anyone who they are targeting.

I think he surprise everyone when he drafted Murray, who never worked out here. I also think he would have drafted Miller over Scoot. If he had #2.

This right here. The Joe literalist interpretations sound unhinged. It’s purposefully word salad at this point.

Givony mocked Murray to Portland ahead of the draft.
