Music: Your flavor of the month?

Good point... how bout some feedback ya'll?

This is a simplistic jam that I've been playing while posting recently. The band's "the XX"... I saw them at Bonnaroo in '08, and I've never really been that into them, but this jam, as simple as it is, is great ambient music. It's akin to something from a Zelda soundtrack or one of those games that people from my generation grew up playing, with the great soundtracks that we'd just listen to for hours on end playing mindless Nintendo video games...

I love that song. It's too hard to find good ambient music like that.

You mean like ambient rock or ambient music in general? Ever listen to groups like Air, Zero 7, or Royksopp? There's also a lot of "jam ambient," like STS9 or EOTO, but for ambient in general, those first three I named kill it in the ambient music game.

This dude was pretty good on The Voice, tonight:

I was indescribably pumped earlier this week when I heard McCartney would be in Memphis this summer. Well, ticket went on sale today, and guess what the cheapest tickets I could find were.... $275 for obstructed view lower bowl. I might have the money to just throw at that pretty soon, but heading off to law school, they just priced me out of one of my bucket list goals. I've never been so disappointed in my life.

On that note, here's one of my favorite Beatles songs. It's a Lennon/McCartney song, but you hear more of a McCartney influence to it. IMO, Rubber Soul is their best compilation of tracks, and I say it that way, just because I think that when you say "best album," Abbey Road is more complete. They're still 1a and 1b though, and this is one of the better songs off of Rubber Soul -

Rubber Soul is good and I know it's many folks' favorite, but man, Revolver is way better!

McCartney gonna be @ Safeco. STRONGLY thinking of attending.

Be prepared to get some sticker shock on the prices. Like I said, in Memphis it was $275 for lower bowl behind the actual stage (aka obstructed view). I love the Beatles, love McCartney, but I'm not really ready to shell out that much to barely see him. With that said, I'm a broke future law student in his mid-20's, so that's probably more money to me than it is you.

Anyway, here's my "flavor of the month," from the Yardbirds -

I'm guessing his budget for this was slightly higher than Thrift Shop or Same love. Just slightly.

You know, I guess I've been living under a rock, because I was pretty unaware of this dude. I've been hearing his "Thrift Shop" track everywhere but didn't know who did it. I saw he was listed as a headliner at some festivals I've been looking at and have been meaning to check him out. Thanks for bringing me up to speed.

I've got a rec that I've probably posted before in the past, but it's worth reposting if that's the case. It's sort of an obscure song, produced by Damon Albarn from Gorillaz/Blur and has been sampled by Damian Marley and Nas. This is the original version from Amadou & Mariam, a blind couple from Mali. "Sabali" is the Bamanankan (western African language) word for "Patience" -

Nice track. Really nice vibe. It reminds me of some other song that I can't think of at the moment.

Yeah, Thrift Shop BLEW UP. I think it has 200M views on youtube, #1 on billboard, etc. Its fun and all, but it's one of my least favorite songs on the album. Maybe that is going too far, but it is def not top 5. It was the perfect song to break them into the mainstream though.

I love STS9; they kill it every time they come to Oregon. While I miss their really spaced out jam days when they only had like 2 albums to draw from, the more focused stuff is good too, and the guitar playing is a lot less offensive than it used to be (dude didn't know how to tune a guitar!)

These Icelanders are coming to Bend at the amphitheater, thinking about going.

Nice! Love their stuff; so dreamy.

I think I've posted this band's track "Shuggie" in this thread when I first found out about them, but it's looking like they might actually start to be taking off, because I've heard them on the local radio (in Memphis of all places) a few times this month with the song "San Francisco." I really dig the sound, and if you're an old-school 60's rock fan, you'll probably dig it too -

Been listening to the last two albums by this band for a couple of weeks now. Usually I wouldn't like this kind of music but for some reason I don't mind them.
Edit- Can't figure out how to embed the video but its Hollywood Undead: We Are.

So that's what P.O.D. is up to these days...? Aside from the high pitched vocals in the chorus, reminds a lot of them...

My old laptop died last summer and I finally loaded all of my music on my new laptop. Its like rediscovering all of my songs again.

Today's flavor is Aesop Rock. I still dig his more recent stuff, but his 2 blockhead produced albums (the 1st one here isn't) were perfect.
