Tried to convince my friend that "Lost in the Ozone" is a stoner classic. He wasn't buying it. Eh. I still think it is. The Byrds and Flying Burito Brothers get all the credit for introducing country to rock..... but Commander Cody should too.

My favorite line of Seeds and Stems....

"Well, I saw your other man today, he was wearing my brand new shoes."
Ray Charles should get that award or Mississipi John Hurt

Now you're talkin'....Tom Waits is to the listening public what Shostakovic was to the cello.. Bone Machine is one of the greatest recordings ....my personal favorite will probably always be Nighthawks at the diner

If you have Netflix, I recommend Take Me To The River.....a great, great film on STAX and the Memphis music scene...awesome documentary!

They definately were huge part of the movement. I think it there was a concerted effort of a lot of artists to meld country into rock. There was a time you would have got run out of any town for playing rockified country. There had to be a paradigm shift before a band like the Eagles was possible.

Ray Charles album, Modern Sounds of Country and Western Music broke a lot of ground. Willie Nelson playing the Armadillo World Headquarters exposed country to the "redneck hippies ." If I had to pick one moment it might be N.G.D.B's Will The Circle Be Unbroken. That album was a concerted effort to connect the past with the future. And it worked perfectly.

Funny you mention that. Guess what album I picked up at one of my Goodwill searches today, Riverman? "The crack of dawn has got to be careful around me!"

I also picked up some John Prine. God bless the little hair he has left.

the coffee just wasn't strong enough to defend itself.....!
for Prine...there's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes...jesus died for all of our sins I suppose....or something like that...I think that's John Prine's

One of the best best songs about rock 'n roll ever written. I wish more people on my generation had gotten the message.

New Jackyl! :smiley-smiley-049:

I have all of Tom Waits albums from Bone Machine on. I like his older music but there is just something about his later music that I like a bit more. :)

Going to see Earth Wind and Fire in a couple months...been taking Al McKays online lessons..he's a beast

just discovered this guy ..if you love acoustic guitar and especially beat up acoustic guitars, check him out

"You only get honest expressions when I spit in your ear, that means even when I'm dissing you I'm being sincere"

Know when you are trying to come up with a song name but can't get it? Happened with this one about 30 min ago, and I've been combing over my pandora likes to see if I could find it... Googling doesn't work well when its an instrumental and very few lyrics. I've become a G at finding songs though!

Bonus - Lyrics sampled from this 78' song.

J Dillas brother over a Dilla beat.

Just randomly popped up as the next song while listening to smif-n-wessun on youtube.

Stevie wonder sample on point, with a bit of that summer madness vibe in the intro.

My favorite music is stuff that quotes from the past and heads on into the future. I guess why I like Caro Emerald so much.
Her style is called Electro Swing but it's just great retro music with a modern twist. I wished she'd tour America.
But you can't have everything.
