Event My sympathies, Oregonians

Welcome to our community

I miss having some dude pump my gas for me.

Wish I had it last week when the mercury dipped to -14 here and I was outside trying to take my card out of the wallet with my bulky gloves on. People here in the midwest call us Oregonians soft, but they don't know what they're missing.

Geez, this is great!
I hate sitting there waiting for someone to finally get around to pumping gas into my rig.

Flava Flav was right about 911 being a joke, at least in Oregon. Only because the whole place is a joke.

People are acting silly about this. It specifically says "in lower population areas" and "option to".

It's not about people being lazy. It's about job loss. So what we're saying is in rural areas we are going to lose more jobs.

Going to Cali/Idaho and having to pump your own gas sucks, this is a luxury people don't know they're missing.

Make it a law that grocery stores have to load your groceries. NEW JOBS, BUT JUST AS UNNECESSARY.

Not having to wait to some dude to get to my car is a luxury I prefer. It creates a secondary bottleneck even if you have enough pumps. I honestly do not miss it one bit.

Never have that problem at my local Fred Meyer, the dude is always right out and there's barely any cars in line.

"I don't even know how to pump gas, and I am a 62 year old Oregonian!"

Anyone else here find this sad and or embarrassing?

Only in Oregon!

That is pretty funny, have those people never been to Washington/Idaho/Cali?

As I recall, this has been voted on by the people of Oregon more than once. I never understand how it gets rejected.

It does remind me of the pit falls of democracy. Every bozo get the opportunity to vote the wrong way.

Ok, pros and cons of this.

Cons.....Gas stations will explode

Pros.... don't have to give your card to someone. Don't have to wait. Don't have to worry about someone scratching your car. Did I mention don't have to wait? Apparently people might get cancer from pumping their own gas occasionally. This will certainly save the gas pump workers from certain death. People wouldn't run out of gas trying to get to Washington (if they did this in Portland)

Another pro if you care about business is the customers that get out might buy some overpriced snack in the gas station...

Like Dviss pointed out this is only going to be a problem in small podunk places like Lake County, even Klamath has enough people this mostly won't be a thing.

This is why i use my card at the pump. If you prepay with cash the twinkies slim jims and cream sodas start calling your name. Not to mention those taquitos that have been on the heat rack for 17 hours.

Sure but that guy probably has a family who is supported by that check for pumping your gas. Logic says this is job loss and will hurt the economy.

People who work at gas stations spend 100% of their money in the economy. The rich people who employ them do not.

The funniest thing about the new gas law is that it's diverting everyone's attention from the tougher gun laws that just went into effect.

Exactly. People acting like this is gonna save time?? GTFO.

So a bunch of people, doing something they've never done, all at once, in a line, is gonna move efficiently.... That's a good Idea....

If you find people who get confused trying to pump their own gas they need their license revoked. Too stupid to drive.

If there isn't a huge line, why should the business hire a guy to do something anyone should be able to do?

Make asswiping a job at restaurants.

Make everyone installing a lightbulb hire an electrician.

Make the garbage man come in my garage and push my cans out to the street.

Make the UPS driver unpack my shipments and inspect them for damage before he can leave.

All these will create jobs. So what?

First thing I compare this to is the self-checkout stations at grocery stores. I haven't heard a whole lot of "these things eliminate cashier jobs" outcry over the past decade that these have become commonplace.

There are a growing generation of drivers who don't know how to change a tire on their car because some automakers don't even include a spare now.

Completely irritating. They have room for a spare but put a big foam spacer that holds a tiny little compressor.

I had to laugh at a Chevy I just worked on, had a full-size spare that said temporary use only. WTF?

I have had multiple times waiting at the Fred Meyers on 185 when I lived in Portland. Never had it happen once anywhere else. Had a big traffic delay getting into Barstow last weekend - lots of people went off the highway to fill their tanks and empty their bladders - and there was no line at the pumps (there was a line at the bathrooms). I can assure you a lot more cars passed through the pumps there compared to what I experienced in Oregon.

Seems to work pretty well at the rest of the country - and I do not think that Oregonians are stupider than the rest of the country. I believe they will manage.

If I had to wait for every dude that has a job, to do with anything I wanted, I'd be sitting on my ass full time.

It's going to be weird when we have to pump gas into a car that drives itself. Seems like it should be the other way around. We need self pumping gas.
