I haven't said any trades or made any comments on who we may have traded for.

If you want to just give away players on a gamble then good for you.

It has been said over and over we gave up too much.

We could have waited until closer to the deadline. We could have waited until the offseason. We could have tried to get the Pels to give us the better (or worse if they would have both of them) Lakers or Pels pick.

Bottom line is we are way less talented than we were. Hart is fine and likely a better fit.

CJ, Nance, Powell and Roco for Hart and Winslow next year is a horrible trade off.

There is close to no chance that we can put a contender around Dame.
The 2022-23 season doesn't start tomorrow.

As he handed over the best player in the deal who helped get them into the playoffs eventually…

Without CJ going lights out for that final stretch it’s very debatable whether NO would have even made the playoffs.

‘Here you go, take this electric scorer who can be amazing for stretches and will help you into the playoffs’.
CJ is also going to keep Zion there and get him to get into great shape... CJ really is a leader and that team has a bright future. They also have a mid lotto pick that they could get lucky with.

What part of his track record as a GM or coach gives you confidence?

I don't hate the guy by any means, but it's not like his resume is anywhere near good. We were bad to start the season.

His rapport with possible free agents. Him having a certain type of player he wants and he was getting interviewed for front office jobs before he decided on coaching.

Hire a cap guru and then put his seal of approval on shit

People on this message board have speculated things over and over many times before, but the volume of which an echo chamber says the same story over and over doesn't make it any more or less true.

I didn't love the trades. I didn't love our roster/salary situation before the trades. However, I'm not the one saying there were better deals because I don't know of one. If people are going to say there were better deals, then please provide something other than a fictional story or Dwight Jaynes speculation to back it up.

The trades were a sobering reality of how bad our salary/talent situation had got. How we had pissed away 1st round picks for marginal role players. Olshey was able to spin stories for a few years. Blamed Stotts last year, only for us to look even worse to start the season this year. In some ways, it's a shame he didn't have to see his problem to the end and own it.

Then no deal and move on. Don’t give it some absurd contingency to get another asset out of the deal

Portland needed to dump CJ. Arguably (I've argued it), they might have done better at the time with an additional layer of draft assets, but they absolutely needed to dismantle olshey's idiotic roster and the trade deadline is a much better time than the off-season

If I was Cronin I would’ve said unprotected pick or absolutely no deal.

But everyone in the world knew that we were eager to trade CJ.

So we ended up with Josh Hart who’s a nice role player.

I hope you like CJ for the next several years because there isn't a team in the NBA that would give up an unprotected pick for him, unless they were already guaranteed a playoff spot.

Are we magically going to trade for some.star players that want to come.to Portland? So we can compete with the other contenders in the league? You really trust our ownership and Cronin to do that?

He should have made it very punitive if CJ benefited them enough to get into the playoffs. He should have said Lakers pick if they miss the playoffs or two future firsts unprotected. He didn't do anything like that he let them tell him that he'd take the fucking Bucks pick three drafts from now and that the Pels get it if it lands in the top 4. Completely owned! Fire Joe Cronin's Dumbass!!!
Hey, there is the measured blazerkor we know and love!

So much to unpack with this game.

Just a gutpunch not getting that extra pick. Powell and RoCo playing like they did so many times for the Blazers. Batum was huge for the Clippers to the point that the game turned when he went out. And Pandemic P strikes again, literally this time.

Ugh. What a crummy development.

Billups can help us get free agents w/out being a GM, so that's good news. We already have a cap expert, so that's good.

Do we have an owner willing to spend for us to win? Do we have the assets it will take to build a contending roster? That I'm not as confident about.

It's kinda crazy that our three starters people were so upset we didn't get more for, were all subpar tonight. Hard to imagine Powell/RoCo getting significant minutes on a healthy LAC roster next year.

No matter what side of the CJ-trade ledger you fall on, and think we can all agree on that.

Nobody is saying we could have gotten Giannis for him. Hart and a 2025 Bucks 1st is disappointing.

You call it an echo chamber. I call it a place where fans stick up for the Blazers even if they shit in a box and called it our starting small forward.

I think people are more upset about the other trade

you might be right

but here's the loopiness I see: posters saying the Blazers can't make good trades with this GM and owner, turning around and saying Portland should trade Dame for a "great haul"

I agree it's disappointing. Having to face reality that our assets have minimal value around the league sucks. However, that doesn't mean that there were better deals out there. Could there have been? Of course.

My issue is that people are saying there WERE better deals, but nobody can point to one of them.

Please share with us the trade that we could've made then that another team would've agreed to and our owner would've agreed to pay luxuary tax for.

I can say we could've got Giannis for CJ over and over, but that doesn't make it true.
It is actually true if Olshey had browsed the BE forums and saw my post and said "Wow Idog1976 is right and I'm going to randomly believe him and make a pivotal choice based on an anonymous internet poster and draft Giannis over CJ!".

So bad example :P

I wouldn't trust Cronin to make a trade on NBA2k22 let alone trade Dame JESUS CHRIST!

smh. no. this isn't about just PG. it's PG exposing others who would likely be more vulnerable. we have 2+ yrs of knowledge about this now-- what a silly thought.
Strongly disagree but you will see in the years to come that the response to Covid was 0% medical/science and 100% political/economic and I do not mean anything to do with Biden or Trump. But let's leave it there.

Nah, the Blazers have a storied history of making the wrong choice and they will have a storied future of it.

I think we gave up too much for RoCo and Powell and then we didn't get enough back for them, but, yeah, they aren't difference-makers. Still should've gotten more for them than we did, though.

CJ, I don't think it tells the whole story to say that he was subpar. He didn't shoot the ball well. He did get loose and create and lot of chaos on the Clippers to have to help on him, though, which, in turn, let guys like Nance kill LA on the boards, and that was a huge reason NO won.

We weren't contending with the lineup we had to begin the 2021-22 season.
Did you expect the Blazers to trade players that didn't make us a contender and get back someone that made us a contender?
My only point is that I believe the team next season will be better than the 2021-22 team when they were healthy.

I certainly don't want Cronin trading Dame for anything. We most certainly would get pennies on the dollar if Cronin did it. Fire Cronin. Hire a GM that knows what he is doing this offseason. The ownership is harder to change. While I want new ownership, that's not as easy as firing your gm.

Really? I feel like there were posters here last year thinking we could be in the top 4 in the West.

Who cares if they are better? We still will be a treadmill team.with no chance at contending without additional stars. Not gonna happen.

I want Cronin fired now... if he's staying there's no point in making any moves really because he fucking sucks. The fact is as bad as Vulcan is they can just take an obvious choice at GM and that obvious choice can make the decision of what direction we go in. If that new GM who either has a name and has a great basketball mind or has a history of great success, if that GM wants to move forward with Dame and they'll definitely understand things better than I do, then I'm all for it but if that new GM wants to move on from the Olshey era in every way and can get us a decent return for Dame that gives us a really good really young team... I'd be down for whatever. Just get Cronin the fuck out of here and get a basketball mind that has experience in a championship front office or just a big name who is brilliant. We'll move on from there.

lol ok.

i might be more familiar behind the science than anyone else here, but believe what you want.
