I can’t believe that Cronin would allow that to happen. Why would he pick 2028 to swap with Milwaukie, knowing that it’s possible they would lose their first round pick to Chicago that year if they can’t make the playoffs until then. Would like someone who could answer this for sure. If it’s true, then Chicago is going to play hardball with us especially in 2028, if Milwaukee sucks that year.

I could be wrong, but fairly certain the Bulls do not have the option to swap picks with the Bucks, just we do.
Correct, the swap would just not happen, we’d keep our our 23rd pick, and the Bulls would get whatever they get. The ultimate party screwed in that situation would be us, and the Bucks would be saved lol.

Not sure it would make exact sense, but just playing around with “what if” scenarios: Wiggins and Brogdon trade (with 1-2 second rounders sent back). Could have Wiggins and Grant start with Toumani and Jabari backup. Again….this is just for fun. Not ideal, but just something to move us forward for a bit? Thybulle could then get traded too. Again…just food for thought. Ideally I would want Grant traded, but I feel that Brogdon and Thybulle are best targets for other teams come trade deadline.
PG: Scoot
SG: Simons, Sharpe
SF: Wiggins, Toumani
PF: Grant, Jabari
C: Ayton, Reath

You can always solve the obligation to Chicago later. That’s not something you think about when focusing on getting a Dame trade done. I’m sure at the end of the season, If we went to the Bulls and offered the #34 and #37 pick in this summer’s draft for our 1st back, they would likely do it to kick start a rebuild, with the alternative being they’d have to wait 3-4 years to see if this pick conveys, and even then, it’d turn into 2nds if they wait that long. Bulls don’t have incentive to help us if this was, say, ‘26 or ‘27, but they also probably wouldn’t want to just lose out on real assets like two high 2nds in a draft. The situation would be a case of biting your nose to spite one’s face if the Bulls were trying to hard ball, honestly.

I certainly wouldn’t mind their ‘29 2nd unprotected and the ‘26 Hawks 2nd unprotected. I’d also probably make them swap us our ‘25 ATL 41-59 protected 2nd for their ‘30 2nd unprotected. Wiggins is a legitimate “zero value” according to reports, and we’re not receiving a 1st back for Brogdon. I’d say it’s fair value. A Wiggins reclamation project > an injured WCJ, those 2nds ≈ the ‘25 top 5 protected DEN 1st, but the public opinion have been WCJ + that 1st is an overpay for Brogdon anyways.

So dubs would be trading two likely good 2nds for Brogdon, and swapping an ATL 2nd for a worse ATL 2nd (that might not convey) for taking on Wiggins contract. I’d certainly do it. I really won’t mind this at all. Borderline, love it, actually, at least more than the Fournier + 1 1st package. Buuut Brogdon doesn’t solve their big man issues. So not sure if they would do this, even if it’s 2nds and not 1sts.

I also really love this hypothetical deal because it could be a second straight year where they blow their load of 2nds on guys that haven’t amounted to much. Last year, it was 5 2nds for GPII who can’t stay on the court. Could you imagine trading 2 likely high 2nds and another 2nd from a Hawks team with Trae on it for Brogdon…and he’s injured in acouple weeks/months?

That would suck so bad, and as a fan of this oft-pathetic franchise with a cursed injury history, I would empathize. But at the same time, it’d be hilarrious.

What about Grant back to Det for Bogdonovic and Gallinari (plus draft picks)? Frees up more time for Toumani and Jabari.

I think the Pelicans need Brogdon most. (or at least one of the few who do)
Their roster is a bit unbalanced. I would take either Herb Jones or Trey Murphy.

Jones's salary matches easier (Jones and Nance)
If it was Murphy, Nance + Lewis or Dyson would be needed to match

This whole draft thing was blown up when Danny traded in aging Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to New Jersey for three unprotected first round draft choices. Those guys soon split from New Jersey, and Boston was able to draft Tatum and Brown, thus the Stepien rule, because he ripped off New Jersey so badly. Then he does it again, completely annihilates Minnesota, and Cleveland trading away Gobert and Mitchell. Oklahoma City is sitting on a shit ton of first round draft picks is the next few years. Now, suddenly, everybody’s trying to off their bad contract, aging superstars, but the league is now wise. It’s amazing Cronin was able to get what’s left of the Milwaukee draft picks. Look how badly the new owners have messed up Phoenix, they won’t be able to draft anybody until 2030.
Cronin’s gonna have a tough time praying any draft choices away because most of the dumb teams have already lost all theirs to the smart GM’s

You’ll be waiting a very long time if you expect Jones or Murphy in a deal for Brogdon lol.

Although, I’d take Brogdon for Daniels, Lewis, Nance, and their ‘30 2nd unprotected—if I couldn’t find a ‘25 1st in a deal. I actually still like Daniels a lot as a bench guy. I think that 6’7 PG Daniels and 6’8 SG Rupert would just be absolutely MENACING on the court defensively. This would be a very strong move in the right direction if we want to upgrade the defensive personnel.

Nance and Thybulle could still return a 1st and a couple 2nds imo. I don’t think we absolutely need a 1st for Brogdon if we get the right young flyer. Dyson Daniels might be that guy I want for Brogdon.

I have a similar feeling. It’s kind of like the draft process, outside of the covid years, I feel like the number of busts have gone down significantly with stronger scouting over the last decade and a half.

You can still get good 1sts though. Don’t necessarily have to get a team to blow their load on one player. Plus, there’s always going to be another situation where a team is desperate. Don’t know when that time comes, but it’ll happen eventually.

Under the radar move: KJ Martin

who is currently rotting on the Philly bench.
Why not? I bet they’d take the ATL ‘25 41-59 protected 1st, which might not convey. He’s going to be easily retainable for even cheaper than the Nas deal. Always loved his energy and he can really rebound for a guard/forward. He’s listed at 6’6 on espn and stuff, but I see his combine height was 6’6 barefoot, so he’s 6’7+ in shoes. Not small at all.

Maybe player-empowering Chauncey can instill the same confidence in Martin to shoot the way he has with Thybulle? I’d bring him in a re-sign him for 3 yrs/$10m, he’s 23.

I know, and the only reason I mentioned it is because they are stacked at SF with Ingram, Jones, Murphy, Marshall, Ryan, and Dyson. That is too many.
I do really like Dyson for Brogdon though. Like, the more I think about it, the more I actually like it. Someone also mentioned KJ Martin who isn’t playing at all in Philly, who I’ve always liked, and he could be had for nothing right now.

I just have this vision in my head of Rupert as a really long 3-D SG and Dyson who can eventually be a good 3-D SF, but can operate as a PG if we wanted to go super big against a bunch of small lineups. Even a lineup of 6’7 Dyson, 6’6 Shae, and 6’8 Rupert (in shoes) as our 1-3 would just be insane size, and I’m here for it. Could Shae possibly be our worse perimeter defender in that lineup?? What a great problem to have if this were the case.

The classic goofball, billionaire owner is the group that bought the Phoenix Suns. These egotistical billionaires think they can outsmart the league, trade away every draft pick all the way until 2030 and instantly turn their team into a championship contender. If I were a phoenix fan. I’d be pissed. That’s not to say Phoenix isn’t a good team right now, but if Cronin could pry some of those future Phoenix pics away from New Jersey, that would be the ideal trade if he could figure out how to get them for Brogdon or Grant.

I wonder if Brooklyn management is already looking a bit sideways at their team that's 6 games under .500, one game from being an 11 sees, and obviously lacks an Alpha. I'm not sure they'd be willing to trade away future assets for a role-playing win-now player that would be a 3rd or 4th option

I hear great things about Dyson from New Orleans fans. He can't shoot worth a lick though. Not sure you'd want him starting next to Scoot. As a prospect by himself, he's very intriguing though.

Well I posted the trade idea on Reddit, and someone said they don’t think Pels do it. Are you someone who has been gassing up Thybulle for his shooting since coming to Portland? Because if you are, I don’t see why you wouldn’t want Daniels here. His defense and ability to move the ball within the offense is already very good. He has like a 3-1 ast/to ratio in the limited opportunities he’s had to make plays. His potential as an impact player is immensely higher than Thybulle imo.

In the end though, this is a pipe dream. But Brogdon IS more win-now, and I would even try to find any deal for Nance that would net some draft compensation back to the Pels if they’d let go of Daniels.

I think we’ve all established we want Scoot and Shae in the backcourt. We also have 2 lotto picks to find forwards. If we trade out the vets and just go young with intriguing players, I don’t care about losing next year. Make some cheap moves like for KJ and roll the dice. Draft Williams, Salaun (or trade down from the dubs pick for Missi and a future 1st). Moves like that.

Ant/Scoot/Daniels
Shae/Ant/Rupert/KJ
Camara/Daniels/Rupert/KJ
Cody/Walker/Camara
DA/Missi/Reath/Williams

You could even trade Ant for those who are sincere about wanting him gone. At this point, I wouldn’t care, if the squad looked like this. Super young talent who can grow together with plenty of future 1sts down the pipeline to add.

Really got to shout you out again for this suggestion. Looking more into him and I really want him now for that ‘25 ATL 2nd.

I really think 3 yrs/$10m is in his future, and I really do think his shooting can turn around. He was a 35-37% shooter in his first two years, had a bad shooting year 3, and hasn’t gotten any burn in year 4. Low risk, Thybulle-level reward, imo.

I dont see a need for a 6'6 PF, personally. Rather take a flyer with a high 2nd on upside, or package it to move up. Martin seems like a 10th man type. Fine on a 3/10 deal, but no need to move a pick for him

That Hawks 2nd I offered is in ‘25, protected 41-59, might not even convey. He’s 6’6 barefoot, which is the same as Rupert at the combine. He’s also played SF most of his career.

You’re thinking of the ‘24 Hawks 2nd that’s the high 2nd.
