Section 18. Trades.

Any player (or, for clarity, any player representative or person acting with authority on behalf of a player) who publicly expresses a desire to be traded to another Team shall be subject to a fine and/or a suspension. The maximum fine that may be imposed by the NBA on a player pursuant to the foregoing shall be $150,000.
Per infraction I hope.

So what's the fucking holdup NBA?

I would also like to point out that the AD to LAL trade was talked about for a while before the actual trade because AD was deep into his last year and notified New Orleans he would not be re-signing with them at the end of the season. They traded him to where he wanted to be because it was expeditious and the Lakers would give up the most for the player Lebron hand picked. Yes, he could have been a 60 day rental but that would be absurd. AD was fined;

Pelicans’ Anthony Davis fined
Official Release |

January 29, 2019

NEW YORK – New Orleans Pelicans forward-center Anthony Davis has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for violating a collectively-bargained rule prohibiting players or their representatives from making public trade demands. The fine is for statements that were made by Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, in an intentional effort to undermine the contractual relationship between Davis and the Pelicans.

The above post shows they increased the fine in the new CBA from $50k to $150K. That would suggest it was a priority for the owners.

Quoting myself here asking someone to send this to that Miami writer, Barry Jackson I believe. I guess he can not do his own research. I don't do Twitter/X.

Jackson is much more interested in clicks/likes from Heat fans than about being realistic or correct.

the NBA is loving this Trade Dame drama. What otherwise would be a really stagnant part of the offseason, is swirling with finger pointing accusations, and a fresh hot memo from the head office.

Oh my gosh Adam Silver, we're all so scared. Oooooooo. Run, lock the doors. F off Silver. You allow Golden State, Phoenix, others to circumvent the rules with the tax lines. You slap Jaws Moront on the wrist for being a bigtime turd. Like Dame & his agent are shaking in their boots. Get outta here with that gahbidge.

Fans are monitoring closely how a formerly beloved superstar treats his former fan base and their cherished team on his way out.
And Fans of Dame are monitoring how some fans have stabbed him in the back with their vile diatribes , when it was the GM not keeping his promises who started this BS.

So your take away from this reveal is...it's the Front Office's fault? Goodwin is this your burner account?

As I stated, handled poorly on all fronts. I suppose that I do place most of the blame on the Blazers org. These guys are a dumpster fire. You know that every player and every team is watching to see how Dame is treated. This will have severe ramifications on how willing other players are going to engage with the Blazers in the future.

My nephew is named Aaron.

He's probably got a similar personality type to these dopes.
  1. Aaron Hernandez (1989-2017): A former American football player, Aaron Hernandez had a promising career in the NFL. However, he was convicted of first-degree murder in 2015 for the killing of Odin Lloyd and was linked to other violent crimes. He died by suicide in prison in 2017.

  2. Aaron Burr (1756-1836): An American politician and vice president under Thomas Jefferson, Aaron Burr is infamous for killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel in 1804. The duel resulted from a long-standing political and personal rivalry, tarnishing Burr's reputation for years to come.

  3. Aaron Kosminski (1865-1919): A Polish immigrant living in London, Aaron Kosminski was a suspect in the infamous "Jack the Ripper" serial killings that terrorized the Whitechapel district in 1888. While not officially convicted, he remains one of the key suspects in the unsolved case.

  4. Aaron "Bunny" Lapin (1886-1964): Aaron "Bunny" Lapin was an American entrepreneur and inventor. In the 1920s, he came up with an unusual invention called the "Lapin Earphone Holder." This peculiar device was designed to keep earphones in place while walking or exercising, but it involved attaching small metal hooks to the ears, holding the earphones securely. The invention was met with mixed reviews and was seen as both humorous and quirky at the time.
  5. The "Great Emu War" Dispute - Aaron Anderson (date of birth unknown): In the early 1930s, Australia faced an amusing but bizarre dispute known as the "Great Emu War." Large populations of emus were causing havoc in Western Australia by damaging crops, and the government responded by sending military personnel to control the emu population. One of the soldiers involved in the "war" was Aaron Anderson.

Only Blazer fans are looking at how Dame is treated...players in the league couldn't give a shit about Portland's front office or the team. If they did they'd be clamoring to join Dame in a Blazer championship run...ain't happenin' as much as I wanted it to

If I were in Cronin’s shoes, in light of yesterday’s announcement by the league, I’d issue a press release saying that after weeks of discussions with the Heat the Blazers don’t see a viable path to a trade and are closing down further negotiations. The Blazers remain open to honoring Dame’s request for a trade, but only for a return package commensurate with his value to the Blazers and All-NBA talent. Barring such a trade offer being forthcoming, the Blazers will welcome Dame at fall camp.

Pretty sure that would earn Cronin a fine from the league as well. Its not just Dame/Goodwin being rebuked. Everyone is. Can't just warn one side.

There’s nothing wrong with a GM closing trade discussions with another team. It happens every day in the NBA. Joe probably would add something like, “Should the Heat come to us with a new trade package that meets our objectives, we would certainly consider it.”

I understand your point, but you just don't negotiate via the press. That is the job of Haynes, Fentress and the Miami press corp. Too many ego's become injured and these people do not want egg on their faces. But I would love it to an extent.

Love the thought by @e_blazer but you probably right. Privately you tell Miami this and let it marinate.

I see absolutely nothing wrong at this point with telling Riley that the ball is in his court. The Blazers said that they would try to facilitate a trade for Dame. They didn’t say that they would spend the summer trying to endlessly roll the rock up the hill to make a deal with just the Heat. It’s possible that the League’s action will spur the Heat to sweeten their offer, but I think it’s going to take another team or two to put something together that’s palatable to the Blazers. Riley’s the guy who wants to get the best player in the deal. He should do the heavy lifting.

You are 100% correct here. You just don't do it publicly. And in my opinion, Cronin is fielding calls now. Adam Silver, via the memo he put out, announced to every team that Dame conceded he would fulfill the terms of his contract irrespective of where he is traded. Many players have been traded to places they do not want to go. But it is a contract. It has value to both sides. Portland will try to accommodate Dame as best they can, but now they no longer have a knife to their throat. It is probably pretty difficult to want to fulfill someones wishes when they have that knife on your jugular.

It is my belief that the market for Dame will be more favorable to us in February than this summer. As I stated in another post, right now teams are feeling good about themselves. Come deadline, teams will realize they have no chance but sense that by adding Dame to their team they can go for it, much like Phoenix/KD.

KD wanna go to Phx but Phx doesn't wanna give up assets in August, but by the deadline they realized they weren't going anywhere and sensed that the West was open for the taking, they were suddenly willing give up Mikal/Cam/Crowder/Many Picks for an aging, injury-riddled superstar

What Dame/Goodwin did is explicitly restricted un the new CBA that was adopted.

A statement like that from Joe would not be restricted. He could get the message across without being so formal about it

This very well could be how it plays out, but it took a change of ownership in Phoenix to finally get the Durant deal done. But personally I don't want a wounded/disgruntled Dame around our youngsters. If Dame is in PDX until the trade deadline he will want to play his usual hero ball and little ball movement. That will be good for him, and possibly his trade value. Does nothing for Scoot. Dame playing a more off the ball team game could hurt his value too. Sooo many variables.

Dame is never going to be disgruntled around the team that gave him half a billion...he's under contract..he has no gripe or complaint period..he'll lace em up and keep his trade value high if he's smart. Dame and Joe are both at Nurk's wedding in Croatia...I don't think there's this big ugly divide that fans have conjured up between Dame and Joe. Joe and Goodwin is a different story..Goodwin could get fired.
