So my laptop forced me to update to Windows 8.1

Well, I did and now my computer won't start, when I start it it prompts me with the message "We couldn't complete the updates undoing changes, Don't turn off your computer".

Its driving me crazy as I was really set on watching the Blazer game. Now I'm red-faced fucking pissed off and am really contemplating throwing this thing out the window and kicking the shit out of the douche bags that made me download windows 8.1

All I wanted to do was enjoy the Blazer game on my Saturday night.

Any help is mucho appreciated.

dump windows, install Ubuntu.

Your virus will be gone, too.

I think your system may be hosed. Google for similar failed update experiences and see if there's a solution.

How do I dump it when I can't get my computer started? I'm not very computer savvy at all.

What are you using to post here?

There's instructions on the Ubuntu site to make a bootable thumb drive or cdrom/dvdrom if you have ever burned those.

I am guessing your windows installation is corrupt beyond repair, but maybe there's some trick to fixing it that I don't know about. Hence the suggestion you google for a fix.

If you have a windows CDROm, you can install from that if you want to keep windows.

Don't listen to Denny, he says that weird crap to everyone.

Hit the F8 key a few times right when you turn your computer on. It will eventually bring up a menu. Try to boot into safe mode. Then use system restore and restore your computer back to a week or two ago.

Good luck with that.

Sweet!!!! Thank you it worked. Now how do I go to system restore?

Start menu / Accessories / System tools / System restore.

Ubuntu or OpenSUSE Linux. Take your pick, any of them would be a good choice for a tech beginner ... as long as you're willing to learn a little bit.

Ubuntu was also very nice when I got a couple of free older units from my employer, but they had to wipe the OS from the machines before I could take them home. Bootable USB stick is a piece of cake, and the installation process is pretty simple. Free tech rules.
