Neil Olshi**y's Summer

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

I've read two things on this site today that bother me. 1. a poster who is close to the team feels like Ed Davis was the heart and soul of the team; and we know Olshey let him go even though we could have had him cheap. 2. a poster who has some inside sources says Blazers want Butler but not willing to offer CJ. Not smart and I agree with that poster that a Butler acquisition may be our only chance to significantly improve.
Missed this one. Who/where was this?

@yuyuza1 ...great post with all of Neil's quotes. However, you're not supposed to pay attention to what he actually says. You are supposed to be mesmerized by his hair and big words that he uses because, "look, people don't understand the ins and outs of these trade discussions and how they can bifurcate in different directions."
Honest question....what's the deal with the hair comments?....the dude has a crewcut and a cowlick....I don't see that as mesmerizing other than he's not bald or doesn't have a combover.....? I don't have issues with his explanations personally...somehow I think it's more of a thing about not liking his confidence than the substance of his content. All this seems to be stemming from folks who don't like him on a personal level....I don't think of him on a personal level...lot of impressive front office folks have less than appealing personalities...I just want him to make the team better, and I think he's trying to do that. He's a New Yorker born and bred....they can be irritable even ordering a cup of coffee in my experience

The hair comments at least from me are meant to be a joke, and he just seems like he spends a lot of time getting his hair done not a big deal, just a bad attempt at humor I guess.

nobody spends a lot of time on an inch and a half of crew cut....don't get the correlation...dude looks to me like he just got out of bed in the morning..

The Ed Davis reaction is still crazy to me. He got $4M for a year in Brooklyn. Had to take it.

Portland didn't want to spend $4M on someone taking minutes from Zach Collins (he would have, you can debate on center or forward its irrelevant) How many average big men are still jobless? Neil told Ed- be the first guy to sign because after that he might have been out of a job.

Montrez Harrell - No team
Beasley - No team
T Booker - No team
D West - No team
G Monroe - No team
Vonleh - No team
Q Acy - No team

Of course everyone loved Ed. But cmon.

If we miss the playoffs, this will be the reason why.

I like Wade B's toughness and Zach's edge, but we got WAY LESS tougher by losing our enforcer in Ed Davis..

Still wanna SLAP Olshey for telling him to take the offer...

Bitch ass...
My concern isn't losing Ed the Enforcer, it's losing Ed the Talent. We have a dearth of talent in the frontcourt now.

1. @HCP will be adding this post to his resume. @HCP feels a lot of things which have variable levels of merit.
2. While I don't deny @TBpup 's sources, Olshey plays things very close to the vest. Part of the standard dogma on s2 is that Olshey "loves his players." While that is absolutely true to some extent, the extremes to which it is taken as gospel are demonstrably false.

Give us one of those guys (sans Monroe), and we will get less crazy!

Well Ed was Dames best friend on the team (Important to keep your stars happy!).
I’d rather have Ed than any of the guys you listed.
Ed’s role as an offensive rebounder played perfectly into basically all of the Blazers rotations because he could hang around the basket and the rest of the team plays further away from the basket for the most part. He was a role player that knew his role and played it well. Too many role players have a hard time just doing what’s asked for them. I think Ed was limited yes, but also a great fit for the Blazers.

Ed's tenacity and offensive rebounding will not be replaced. Let's hope our shooters can keep that from being as much of an issue.

Masai: “The fans are always on my mind, but they don’t have the information that we have and that sometimes makes it hard. If we didn’t do anything, I think everybody would by (mad). ‘It’s the same team ... will only lose in the playoffs again would be the narrative.’”

It’s nice to see a GM that actually has respect for the fans

I loved Ed's way and his relentlessness. Still do and wish him well!
However I think while Ed was here, he mostly played out of his natural position as a legit board banging around the hoop 4. Yep he was a good backup center or even a starter at the 5 some times.
I still think he should have started more games at the four. JMO

Ujiri: "Without the medical drama we'd have no chance of getting a player like this. Zero," says that's where the risk comes in.

It’s nice to see a GM realize you have to assume risk for high reward.

Not to pile on Neil any further, but contrast Olshey's press conferences with this:

No condescension, acknowledging mistakes, admitting risks, etc etc. Just so much more genuine and a level of accountability than anything you see from Neil.

My lord, this guy is a class act... gold standard for a GM... I could listen to his press conference over and over. I wish I could post the entire transcript... everything he says is the exact opposite of Neil... for anyone doubting what a snake oil salesman Neil is, please take the time to watch this

DeRozan didn’t seem to think he was a class act...

A few things wrong with this argument:

  1. 4.4 mil is a damn steal.
  2. Ed wouldn't take minutes away from Zach.
  3. If he didn't take that offer we maybe could have had him for less.
  4. He wouldn't be out of a job. He's needed here.

How does that make sense? If all Schroder cared about was playing time he would’ve been content in Atlanta.

You have to be able to connect dot a to dot b.

Someone else said he wants to win. I said then he will demand a trade. dot a to dot b means that I think OKC will not win with Westbrook.

So, if he wants to win, he will demand a trade.

Does it make sense now?

No because OKC will win.

Ujiri’s mandate is to elevate the Raptors to a championship contender, a status they’ve flirted with for several years. He said that’s ultimately what prompted the trade for Leonard and veteran Danny Green.

“You can’t continue doing the same thing over and over again,” he said.

Obviously he hasn't been watching us...

Dame should run for president. That dude is even-keeled.
