From one of the few sources that "might" be considered reliable at the O-live forum. As follows from "ontheinside2"

"Blazers and Chicago are in talks about a Hinrich/Simmons for LaFrentz/Sergio"

Just passin it on for discussion guys FWIW.

Hinrich on the shelf for another two months makes it seem pretty likely that there's no truth to this rumor, the other part that makes it hard to swallow is that it came from O-live. No offense to you SpanishFly.

LOL None taken, like I said FWIW. Maybe CaonKirk is now "cheap enough" with his injury - just a thought.

I think overall it would probably be good value for us, to get Hinrich for an expiring and Sergio, but I worry about the chemistry of our second unit, who have been doing well with Sergio, and how that would be affected playing alongside Bayless for at least a month or so. But Hinrich is a definite improvement over Blake, IMO. I know lots of people see them as similar, but it's probably a small price to pay for a decent upgrade at starting PG. And then, consequently, at backup PG. I would think it would mean Blake would be on the way out after the year, as I couldn't see the need for him and Hinrich in the backcourt, but who knows.

Again, my main concern would be chemistry on that second unit, and also, Rudy and Sergio's relationship. We have heard a few times this year how close they are, and how they hang out a lot. Now, I'm not all for keeping a guy JUST because he is a friend of someone else, and they get along, but am just saying it could be another concern is all.

I doubt a non career threatening injury would diminish his stock it would just make him unlikely to be traded while he's still recuperating. Now if the rumor persists or pops up sometime in January or February before the trading deadline then I suppose it's possible something could materialize with the deal as it is currently composed, but I've got to think that Chicago would be wanting to get more in return than a simple expiring deal and a backup point guard, especially when they are so thin in the front court.

I've got to think that Chicago would be interested in somehow parlaying Hinrich into some front court depth, and all we would be able to offer them is Frye, Diogu, or Joel and I don't see Joel going anywhere.

Good value?
Sergio + cap space for Hinrich? It's fine, don't get me wrong, but not good value. Making a trade
like this means that we probably won't have the cap space to leverage a big impact trade later.

Quick Question (Question for Quick?): Are the sum of the Bulls parts worth more than the whole?
Usually if a team plays poorly, the players values diminish. Somehow, though people think the
Bulls players are worth a lot individually when the team has been sucking all of last year and now
this year as well.

Nik, don't dismiss O-Live so soon. A lot of stuff has been leaked there. For example, the fact that GO was out for the year was leaked there. The fact that Zach was being dealt to the Knicks was leaked there. You would be surprised who posts there. In fact, I know of two former NBA players and several members of the Blazers' organization who do.

ontheinside2 has broken stuff before. If he said it, IMO it's legit.

You hit the nail on the head with your analysis. If this deal is done, it's Blake who is gone. Next year we have Hinrich and Bayless at the point. Perhaps we bring over Koponen next year, but out point situation is set.

It also means that any hope of ever being a running team is gone.

Waste our LaFrentz space on Hinrich while losing Sergio too? I don't like it one bit.

You have to understand the mentality of the old BBF crowd. Most look down their noses at O-Live because of the trolling and childish antics that go on there. What they don't realize is that there are a lot of quality posters who not only know their stuff, but who are connected. It just takes time to realize who is decent and who is a joke.

I hope this happens. I'd love to see Sergio go to Chicago and tear up the league. It would make Nate look really stupid for continually playing head games with Sergio.

As for cap space?????

Portland would use it to bring in a better PG most likely. Outlaw, Webster and Batum seem to be good enough to man the SF possition.....especially if Outlaw continues to try and play defense like his mamma told him to. Like him or not, and I know you stat geeks will disagree, but Hinrich is a better PG than we have on our roster, and a HUGE upgrade defensively over any PG on our roster....at least that Nate will play.

Hinrich is a much poorer passer than Sergio. Sergio would get more time, though, and my allegiance would be split - since I am sure he will be a star.

Amen. I don't understand the love affair with Hinrich. He's not a very good shooter. He scores his points by putting up alot of shots. I'm sure everyone here will get disgusted with his 3 pt shot. It's a waste of 2 assets if this is true.

Sergio "tear up the league" with ROSE there? No chance since Rose is already doin that. He's just be a backup again.

Why would Hinrich's injury hurt his stock more? I don't think his stock can get any worse and rightfully so, his play for the past few seasons has been atrocious. Stay away.

I hope it's Blake that's gone if we trade for Hinrich. I would like to hang on to Sergio as our change of pace PG and having both Blake and Hinrich seems redundant. Regardless of what people think Hinrich is an upgrade, his defense alone is reason enough to make this trade. Plus Hinrich actually knows what the key looks like on offense unlike Blake.

It's all about style.

Hinrich plays Nate's style. Tough defensive PG, and a very good half court offensive player. He, Roy and Rudy would be an incredible 3 guard rotation, with Bayless getting minor or change of pace minutes

Sergio needs to go to GSW or NYK - these are the only places where his playing style will allow him to blossom.

But - he is getting more minutes here and he is clicking with Rudy and he does seem to do a better job of protecting the ball and he is trying to stay in front of his man (not that I ever expect him to be a defensive force - but he is trying - which is a great thing to see) and every once in a while his shots goes in as well.

The poorer passing of Hinrich will be made up by the ball handling abilities of Roy. Hinrich & Roy is nice...not to mention if they play against a small line up, shifting Roy to SF and playing with a combination of Bayless, Rudy and Hinrich will give teams headaches.

Style? If Kirk can't succeed on a horrid Bulls team, how can we expect him to succeed here?

About this rumor:

Clearly this is mainly about cap space for the Bulls. They committed a lot of money to Hinrich as their PG of the future and now they have a NEW, far better and far cheaper (for now) PG of the future. Here Sergio seems like a throw-in. They don't really need a PG, even a backup. So why should Sergio be our throw-in? I guess he's the cheapest good player that we might give up. But I don't like that, precisely because he's shown that he can really energize the second unit. I'd much rather give up Bayless, quite frankly, because his strength is scoring for himself and we have that. Of course, so do the Bulls, with Ben Gordon. And actually, I think I'd most like to give up Steve Blake, since he's essentially pretty similar to Hinrich, albeit paid half as much.

How about:
Hinrich (with or without Simmons or Aaron Gray - it works either way)
for
Blake, Frye and Diogu

The contracts of Channing and Ike expire at the same time Raef's does, and Blake's contract runs half the length of Hinrich's.

This way we keep Raef's expiring contract AND Sergio. We're still taking on Hinrich's not-so-great contract, so it's a gamble that his last year was an aberration. I say we offer that and say take it or leave it, and I would be happy either way.

The Bulls aren't horrid. They are 5-5, or 1 game behind us. They have also played a very tough schedule. The same as us if Roy doesn;t make a miraculous shot against Houston by the way.

I meant to imply that Blake won't be on the team next year, not that he'd be the one traded. IIRC, we have a team option on his contract.

i love this trade...get bayless some playing time while hinreich is hurt

Yeah, but the difference is you don't see people on O-live ripping this site. I've been on both O-Live and BBF/S2, and I can say that until a group of people stopped posting there, O-Live was the better place to talk hoops.
