New owner... Tom Dundon?

Not a fan of him being a cheapskate about fan-friendly accessibility stuff like radio broadcasts and what not. Not a huge fan of win now dick-swinging when we have a team full of young guys. Coming from my position as a local lifer who likes seeing a team grow into itself, this is probably worse than if he hadn’t bought the team. But whatever I’m sure the manly men will appreciate his no nonsense horsehit.

No, he wanted a franchise in need of a major turnaround much like what he did to the Canes. It's winning time!
I believe strongly that the Blazers are going in the right direction. A turnaround would be going in the wrong direction. I prefer they continue to go in the right direction. Also, continuity is very important. I hope he doesn't have an ego that will cause him to fuck shit up just to get his fingerprints on it.

I wonder if he’s gonna shit can the GM/Coach? If he’s cheap I doubt he wants to pay them to not work here.

It says right above your post that he, "Values winning over money." I realize most positions make less in the NHL but he definitely got rid of everyone with the Hurricanes when he took over. At the same time the articles I've read said that he did so in order to be more hands on than the previous owner. The fact is that our GM and head coach have been meeting with the current ownership group a ton. So there is no reason to believe that they wouldn't work hand in hand with a new owner.

That being said, Dundon might just want his own people. I would bet now that it's been announced that he's the new owner of the team that he will meet with everyone and we will see at least some firings and hirings before the start of the season.

If the team is staying, that right there is priority number one. I’d rather latch onto eternal hope than to lose the team to another city any day of the week.

Now, I’m interested to see how he plans on turning this team into a winner and what moves he makes to improve the arena situation. There will certainly be a lot to talk about in the future.

Yeah, priority number one seems to be out of the way. I think it's especially encouraging to see the reports that the new ownership group wants to partner with the city and state on a new arena and aren't just depending on tax payers to foot the bill.

Honestly today's news is a huge relief. Knowing this guy (the seeming controlling partner in the ownership group) didn't move the Hurricanes and that they have a local as one of the three big partners in the ownership group is just really great to hear.

I'm still really high on our youth and hope the new ownership wants to build a winner through them but regardless, it seems that our Blazers are here to stay.

No, he doesn't own the team yet. He cannot make any changes until after the sale is final, and that will take a while, maaybe next year for it to materialize

So how did he turn around the Hurricanes. Through draft/develop or through Free agency?

Yet we get stuck with the label of “how are we going to handle another pro team…”

but Utah doesn’t
You don’t see the difference between Salt Lake City and Portland? I mean one has hosted an Olympics.

I see people on here think that it’s going to be another Ishbia situation but if the Blazers are going to be anything like the Canes then this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Raleigh isn’t the most attractive destination for superstars so the front office doesn’t really hunt for big names like the Suns. Instead the FO is incredibly analytics driven, I’d say the closest NBA equivalent would OKC Thunder.

The Canes are really really good at:

-not getting fleeced in trades

-not getting fleeced by the agents

-identifying undervalued players

-late round drafting

I don’t know if the Blazers front office is going to see drastic changes but I don’t think you guys should worry about being the new Suns

But Tom is smart, and his decisions are made based on risk assessment, analytics, and group think. He surrounds himself with people who are knowledgeable on the topic at hand.

Sure, someone else often emerges. The point is, where was he drafted? At a spot where there was no reason to intentionally tank?
The odds are far less likely that you'll get somebody like that later in the draft than earlier in the draft.

That has been established repeatedly. You really want to be picking top three or four. Multiple times.

Considering i butted in and only read the latest page at the time, it wasn't obvious to me. :)
But i get the gest now.
Though i do believe there are 50-60 stars, i understand that isn't what is being discussed. It’s all nba players(why not say just that?)?

I am not convinced we don't have a star-as being discussed-on our roster, if given proper growth.
I'm not convinced we don't either. But I'm also not convinced that we do...

Question: What was the agreement when Sonics was initially sold. Is there like a verbal agreement that they will keep the Sonics in Seattle?
You need to take the time to watch SONICGATE…..fantastic doc on what really happened.
