New owner... Tom Dundon?

how about I ask you a question, if Tom decides to get rid of pride night and make it a "everyone" night like he did with his NHL team, you don't think there will be people protesting outside of Moda Center on game days? or talk of not supporting the Blazers and on social media because the Blazers got rid of pride night?

As other poster mentioned, lets not forget the fact that there was some uproar about Billups and his rape case when he was hired, and for a little bit he was getting asked about it by the media, people in Portland making all sorts of comments on social media about it for a long while. It was tasteless as fuck. It's just one example of the shit show IMO I think Portland has become to what is use to be. Most people here have adpoted a negative narrow minded view imo. And that's a shame currently, as Portland was super vibrant and clean not to long ago. It can reach there one day again hopefully imo. But to each their own opinion wise

and for the record, I'm not against anyone or what their preference is, my point is people in Portland will find any reason to "protest', whether it be politics, race, or gender related. It's just a bad look if you ask me.
Clackamas?

Ask Charlotte how that worked out for them and their chance to host the NBA AllStar game.

That was just one example. You want others? It's pretty easy to find articles online if you take a minute or two:

"more small businesses reporting revenue decreases than increases in 2024" on Portland

"Critics of tax policies undertaken by the city of Portland and by Multnomah County say high levies are prompting people to leave, especially given the rise in open-air drug use, graffiti, car theft and other forms of blight. The census data supports that, to a point' - From 2024

Portland Loses Population for Third Year as Exodus Continues

More left Oregon than arrived last year, Census Bureau says, reversing decades -
Yet the value of my house continues to rise and there are new restaurants and businesses constantly opening up in our area of town? How bout you put down your google machine….leave whatever cul-du-sac you live in and venture out and see for yourself how our city is doing.

Good, hope they were Trump voters…… and less traffic, gotta love it.

For the most part, the people who are leaving Oregon are more conservative in nature. A significant % of those leaving are "sick of how Portland" dictates what happens in the state.

Mostly because they have a fundamental lack of understanding how populations work.

Just came back from dinner with my wife and brother downtown by the park blocks….. beautiful night out. But if you actually LIVED in Portland you’d know that.

When presented with facts, you relate to being a smartass.

Checkmate, now run along.

Dunno what game you are playing, but I don't think it's chess.

I responded to JFizzle by quoting AI about AI, and you responded to that with a request that I read some comments about a video about Portland.

And this Friday and Saturday, we have the Hood to Coast and Portland to Coast.

Imagine the obstacle course they have to do, with go-carts AND homeless encampments and fires!

Well, Portland to Coast - those people are obviously fleeing the hell-hole that is Portland.
And Hood to Coast - that race is longer now - it goes to the East Coast, so as to avoid the hell-hole that is Portland.

Not sure how long you have been here, but Oregon consistently for many years had an issue with being a top destination to move to. If we lose some of those people, it's not a sky is falling scenario as you are making it out to be.

The tax thing for City of Portland And Multnomah County....that has some to deal with a personal tax, which has income exemptions. Also, as I have already stated, PDX is now a market based sourcing jurisdiction. Do you know what that means?
I, for one, am glad the Portlandia Bubble is over. My friends can afford to live in NW with me, traffic only stinks 4 hours a day instead of 6. And now my commute into work and home from work are easier because I live in Portland and work in Beaverton. People who like doing tax evasion move to Vancouver, and people who who are just saying that "he had some good ideas" move to Tigard. I live in Portland, sit on the front porch and watch folks walk by with their dogs and I don't have to look at a single Cybertruck.

I live in Seattle so I can’t talk too much shit about Portland. I really don’t like either very much though. Spent last weekend in Vegas(Summerlin to be exact) that’s probably my next move.

There usually is a reason people are protesting for race, gender or politics. To be able to say protesting over those items is a bad look is a sign of privilege.
Hahha, that made me laugh legit. So wrong and missing the point.

what has protesting every accomplishment? And what about the protests that turn into shit and they cause damage to property and buildings?

Portland’s protests went on a lot longer more than any other state in the USA for the George Floyd protesting, for many days after all other states stopped…why is that huh?

years ago that shit wasn’t going in at all. Protest, people in uproar about this and that was non existent or a lot less than it was today.

Once again you completely missed the point.

Our friends in Portland all live in the city. They all love it there. Bicycle folks....one couple doesn't even own a car but rents them when needed...bought a condo downtown...other couple lives in Milwaukee very close to the bridge in a great neighborhood. We used to live in the burbs in Wilsonville.

What? Can’t believe I wasted time replying to you lol. Didn’t even counter back shit. You know the little protests outside of Moda center will happen if the pride night thing is no more. End of story

Nah. I think it is obvious you are missing the point, bruh.

Privilege.

Once again, what has protesting ever accomplished? What about the ones that cause damage to business and property? That’s ok to you I guess huh. Silly.

it’s a bad look how MUCH Portland does it and for the smallest dumbest reasons.

Locals in Hawaii say this everyday...the Haole's come here, get island fever and leave again. I'll bet people leaving Hawaii is a pretty high number...lot of people can't live long on an island without getting island fever. It's just too slow for a lot of folks who move there with illusions of island life.

Portland still has some nice clean areas, and it’s definitely not Portland as a whole. Happy valley is doing well and thriving for example. But let’s not act like many have had or will continue to have bad experiences in Portland too.

Just look at those comments in the YouTube video I posted about the experiences of those people and why they left Portland.

to each their own. But I think everyone agrees Portland isn’t the same as it was before.

I can't speak to that as I left there in 2001. It was too much urban sprawl for me way back then. My friends love city life. Me, not so much. Have to say no place is ever the same as it was before sadly

I don't even know how to respond to these questions. You literally said a few posts back we all need to search for things ourselves. I asked Google what protests have ever accomplished. AI was very complimentary (which you like to use as sources).

Here is a good first read for you https://www.freedomforum.org/famous-protests/

Not all protests cause property damage.

Happy Valley sucks.

Just came back from Ben Harper at Pioneer Square. Fun show. We survived our treacherous walk back to the car as well. Was so relieved.
I'm gonna brave it again tomorrow night for The Roots, but feel like I'm pushing my luck.

Haha, you can’t answer those questions because you got your foot in your mouth.

we can agree to disagree. No need to be going on and on. To each their own.

What the fuck is a happy valley?

what has protesting every accomplishment?
This sentence makes no sense. I mean even if you knew how to write it wouldn't make any sense. I believe you were asking "what has protesting ever accomplished?"

I'll answer that question with a few examples from this last year. Three major universities that I know of (I'm sure there are more) divested from companies involved in supplying Israel arms because of protests on their campus. Two friends of mine got raises and went from having to pay for half of their health care premium to having the entire premium paid for by their employer the day after the workers staged a walkout for the second half of the day and stood outside their place of work with picket signs in protest.

On a macro and historic level, there would probably still be segregation in the south if it weren't for protests and those protests have a lot to do with the abolishment of a lot of other Jim Crow laws. Women's suffrage protests were a large part of what got women the right to vote. Hell you pointed out the George Floyd protests; after those the amount of police departments in the US that require body cams went through the roof.

Basically every time some group protests they are sure to accomplish one thing... they always bring attention to what they are protesting, maybe that attention is small and maybe it's big but protests get attention and sometimes attention is the only catalyst needed for change.

So again, that sentence made no sense and even if you would have used the right words it still wouldn't have.
