New owner... Tom Dundon? (1 Viewer)

I doubt very much that Kolde had much input in the past. (on Basketball decisions) He may have wanted Joe and Chauncey to keep him informed, but that does not mean he was influencing the draft, trades, or what was happening on the court
Why do you think this? Kolde has basically been running the team along with Allen since the 80s. Drexler hates him and said that's a big reason he never wanted anything to do with the team.

There were reports both Billups and Cronin had to meet with Kolde weekly. To me that sounds like a supervisor.

The Drexler thing happened 30 ago.
What players have said it recently?

As far as the weekly meeting, yeah that is over kill it was that often. But yes he is their supervision so why wouldn't he want to know what is going on?

Honestly, I think Clyde came up with something that sounded plausible, and went with it.

Clyde Drexler has expressed significant criticism of Portland Trail Blazers executive Bert Kolde
, citing a lack of connection with former players and poor team management as reasons for his absence from team celebrations. Drexler has called for new management and the removal of Kolde, who is a longtime associate of the late Paul Allen.

  • Drexler's View: Drexler stated that Kolde, as Vice Chair, has had "carte blanche to run the franchise from behind the scenes" but has accomplished "very little".
  • The Rift: Drexler, a Blazers legend, refused to attend certain 2025 team celebrations, pointing to the organization's failure to foster relationships with ex-players.
  • Kolde's Role: Bert Kolde was Paul Allen's college roommate and acts as a key, long-term advisor for both the Trail Blazers and Seattle Seahawks.
  • Future Stance: Drexler indicated he would not be closely involved with the organization until there is a change in leadership, with Kolde gone.

I overheard Hendrix playing at Rose Garden or Moda Center (old name prettier).
What will they play when Dundon officially takes over?

What a crock of shit, IMO. Screw Clyde. How are so many other ex-players always around EXCEPT him?

He doesn’t take all the fans that adored him into consideration. Petty move.
Or his teammates. Clyde really embraced his Rockets allegiance after retiring, he's been doing their media forever. He's never endeared himself to Portland since the trade. Why the fuck wouldn't he show up for the honors we showed his team? I don't buy the Bert Kolde excuse. Clyde had more media power than Bert ever will. Clyde is a photo negative of Jerome Kersey or Brian Grant.

I was always a fan of Clydes until my wife told me he has the worst tipper of all the players that used to frequent the Oswego Grill over a few years. In fact when he was with other players he'd never pick up a bill. I remember he said he was a finance major in college, so he was cheap!

I'm not a fan of high jacking this thread and turning it into a Clyde Drexler thread, but I'll chime in anyway. I've talked to a couple people who worked for the Blazers during Clyde's time and it was well known that he was a major pain in the ass. For example he'd show up late to practice all the time and didn't like doing team events in the community.

He was the color commentator for a few seasons for the Rockets….. he refused to show up early to rehearse and would barely be in his seat as they would come on the air. Total disaster. Didn’t last long……

Meh. That's pretty tame. I turned 21 when that team was playing for championships and ruling Portland. So many clubs and bars in DT Portland, where you would run into the random Blazer.

Clyde, when you would run into him, was always cool but mellow.

so, this Board of Governors meeting that's going to vote on expansion....I take it they will vote to accept Dundon as the new owner? Is that on the schedule?

You know the only thing I got from this post……God you’re old.

Wait....you were 21 in 1990?

You're only in your mid 50s?!?! I assumed you were at LEAST 65

my understanding is the votes happen tomorrow, today is all the meetings and presentations.

based on charlotte and phx ownership transitions, I had assumed that portland would have a dundon presser in pdx tomorrow; but it sounds like highkin is flying out to nyc?

is it because dundon hasn't made his final payments yet?
