Politics NFL and Trump

Too bad this got moved because of a few idiot posters.

I was hoping for a legitimate discussion. I do it in other threads though, so, so be it

I, by the way, support the protest.

What do you think the point of the protests is?

Only suspicions, so I don't know. But if it is about making life safe for Black children, pissing off a large portion of the population sure seems like convoluted path to success.
Hard to relate Curry's action to a motive at all, other than he is just hating Trump

Shouldn't conflate Curry's refusal to attend the WH with the NFL anthem protests. They're separate from one another.

If you're confused about the purpose of the protests, you should go back to Kaepernick's comments about it when he started it last year. That should clarify things for you.

Good news...you aren't taken seriously by me or anyone else.

Actually, people like you, who are just shouting, yelling and accusing others that you know nothing about, are the problem.

What's hilarious is that while you say things like "you aren't taken seriously by me or anyone else", while reaching for teammates to aid you here, quite the opposite is true.

You saying whatever in a snarky tone doesn't make it true. Also, no one yelled. I use caps to emphasize.

Looks to me like the bulk of the protests are against Trump or in defense of "one's own" (another player), not for anything in particular.

FWIW--Nurkic just said that he thinks mixing sports and politics is ridiculous.

Of course, he's also 23, so his worldview probably has room to expand.

Who in this thread is telling anyone how to do anything?

Complaining about the protest is just what white people have historically done when we protest. Most don't look into why we're protesting, or even worse don't give a shit and tell us:

This isn't the way to protest.

There is no right way for black people to protest. When we march peacefully we're beaten in the street.

It's just more of this:

BTW, I read the Kaepernick explicitly used the words flag and country, when he said he didn't want to stand for those things (for historical reasons, etc.).

I think the players are right and so is Kaepernick. But I also think they're certain to piss off tens of millions of people in the process, which may well harm the league. A lot of people will take offense to any kind of attack on flag and country.

Then why do we have the national anthem play if we "shouldn't mix politics with sports"?

Sounds like a question for Jusuf. Of course, don't let PapaNurk get wind of you questioning his boy...

That should clarify things for you.

Well it does actually. The protest is so disconnected from the stated mission, it has no chance of changing anything. It really is just designed to piss people off as it is not associated with any meaningful plan to change anything. It probably cost Kaepernick his job, which could be expected, but to expect any undefined change to occur is mindless.

Taking a knee is about the most harmless, peaceful form of protest imaginable.

Imagine if one of those players was uppity enough to hold a sign, or actually speak? It would be the end of civilization as we know it.

GOOD FUCKING QUESTION. Would ANYONE object to stopping it? Literally anyone? How about we pick a different song every time? Or just play Tubthumper by Chumbawumba.

Psst! Go fuck with the locals along the Skedaddle.

How about you try answering the question? I'm sure when the anthem plays and you're at home, you're still seated, sipping your beer.

Do they stop selling concessions when the anthem is playing?

Have we taken the FUCKING WELLS FARGO LOGOS off our flag when it shines on the court??

I don't see ANY of you complaining about that.

I don't see ANY of you complaining about that.

Naw, I don't really give a shit about that.
I would like to see all these guys get together with their fat wallets, get some help an see if they can really make a difference in the real issue at hand.
But they won't, Just pissing off people is easier. Don't need to think that way.

Well...yeah, I think it kind of does. The whole point is the idea that black people are all too often perceived and treated differently by police than white people...because of the color of their skin.

So...yeah, it matters.

It's amazing how some can be so clueless over WHY they're protesting....

So you truly don't think putting a corporations logo on our flag isn't disrespecting it???

Kaepernick has dug quite deep into his "fat wallet". I'm sure many others have as well. That's generally not as widely publicized as on-field protests are, though.

Don't post stupid things. Because it makes you sound stupid.

While he waits for a job, Colin Kaepernick continues his $1M charity pledge. $700K thru April. He announced the latest orgs benefiting.

Colin Kaepernick is currently a free agent, but he’s been busy lately. Since pledging to donate $1 million of his salary to various charities in the wake of his national anthem protests, Kaepernick has donated $700,000 so far. This week, he announced the latest round of organizations that he’ll be donating to: American Friends Service Committee, Assata’s Daughters, Grassroots Leadership, and Helping Oppressed Mothers Endure. Much like the 20 other organizations he’s donated to, they’ll each get a portion of the $100,000 he’s been pledging each month.

Kaepernick has been a lightning rod of controversy since he made news with his national anthem protest. The NFL remains divided on whether to sign him -- Giants owner John Mara said he’s been receiving mail from fans who don’t want their team to sign him, while Seahawks coach Pete Carroll had high praise for Kaepernick, saying he’s “a starter in this league.” Kaepernick worked out with the Seahawks this week for a potential job, but it remains to be seen if that will evolve into a signing.

Despite the drama surrounding Kaepernick’s future in the NFL, it’s clear the impact he cares about the most is the one he’s making with fans around the country. It’s tangible — from the rally in New York City, to handing out suits outside a parole office, to receiving boxes upon boxes of supportive letters. It’s easy to imagine that his activism will continue even after he’s done donating $1 million of his salary, that even if he won’t kneel during the national anthem anymore, he’ll do what he can to keep the conversation going.

Of course it would be.

Then why do you say:

Naw, I don't really give a shit about that.

But they won't, Just pissing off people is easier. Don't need to think that way.

You openly admit that you don't give a SHIT about the logos on the flag but people kneeling pisses you off.

Why do I even converse with that idiocy...?

For the record, this thread should've never been in the main forum. We've already had this thread.

So has it worked? Did racism get eradicated by all the kneeling? God I hope so, if that doesn't work then I'm fresh out of ideas!

"President Trump gave $1 million of his own money to charities"

The key bit.

Not "President Trump allegedly gave $1 million of his own money to charities" as you were fooled into thinking.

You know what they say, fool you once... fool Rasta twice.
Oh, I see the problem. You can't read entire sentences or understand embedded clauses. This is going to be tougher than I thought.
