Nic Batum Contract Status......

FYI: Gallo is playing like a borderline all-star this year. His contract seems pretty reasonable given his age and productivity.

I just compared Nik's stats to Gallo's.

This season, yes, Gallo looks to be the better player. His numbers all across the board are just a bit better. Add that all up, and you a significanly more effective player (for 17 games this season anyway) And of course, he is starting.

However, if you dig a little deeper and compare their career numbers, the stats are eerily similar - with Nik edging Danno in many categories. Regardless, close for their careers so far.

So, do you pay a guy who has a HUGE jump in numbers during his contract extension season based on that 17 games stretch?,

or, do you pay a guy based on his career numbers?,

or, do you pay a guy based on his "potential"?,

or, do you pay a guy because he was drafted high?,

or, do you pay a guy like you were a team with the financial wherewithal of the New York Knicks?,

or, do you see where I am going?

A bunch of teams are going to be VERY UNHAPPY with a lot of these contracts that are being signed now that we have a new CBA and a new world order (ie, much more pain and much less flexibility for salary capped teams).

The Nugs just paid Affalo and Nene and Gallinari based on the best case scenario for each these players.

They are bound to be disappointed. Almost by definition it is impossible for more than one of these players to become a "good value" for their contract. I am betting that NONE of them will.

I'm not sure what you're talking about? I never said I'd take Gallo over Nic. All I said is that Gallo is playing like a borderline all-star and thus is getting paid like one ... his contract just gives us some perspective about what kind of deal Nic might expect (ie. something a little South of 4 years 42 million).

You give Nic his minutes and touches of the basketball, he would produce more then him. Galinari is the second maybe first option, Nic is the 6th !

Possibly ... if so, then I guess that means Nic should get 4 years 50 million?

Gallo looks like a better player then Carmelo.

Well, Carmelo has always been an overrated player.

Flashy. Explosive. Can score in bunches. Actually a good closer - better end of game stats than Kobe.

However, over the course of a season, he is only ok for winning games.

Career Win Shares per/ 48 is: .127
High of .157 last season with NY.
This season so far: .134

Danil Gallinari:
Career: .125
Last season: .133
This season: .209

What do you think of the trade now?

What are you talking about?

All-Star?

Bullshit.

For 17 games only. That's it.

He said Gallo was playing like a borderline all-star so far, which he is. What's wrong with that statement?

any news today?? they already met, still meeting, going to meet?

PAYING for an all-star who has only been one for 17 games is the problem.

nene and ty are up there too. I think denver would have been better served waiting for jr smith and wilson chandler to come back, then they could have bid chandler, smith, gallo, afflalo against each other

So are those guys playing in China going to be free agents when their contracts expire in March? If so, I would like to pickup Brooks.

It's not like he's a max money guy ... but regardless, whether you like it or not, when guys on their rookie deals start to realize their potential, teams typically lock them up.

Brooks will be a UFA, I believe. As will Patty and KMart. I'd like him too.

Chandler is a RFA, however and DEN still holds his bird rights.

I think there's a reason Houston traded him. He's just another short shooting guard.

I don't like it or dislike it.

I just think that the reason so many players end up being perceived as overpaid is because somehow the agents have had a lot of success framing the argument:

If you are good you get paid.

If you might be good you get paid.

If you were good you get paid.

If you are a good citizen you get paid.

If you score a lot of points, but otherwise aren't very good, you get paid.

If you lead the league in something, you get paid.

And so on.

And, wags say the owners only have themselves to blame. Yes, that is part of it. They could exercise a little more self-control. But, in terms of free agency, the influence of a tiny handful of superrich teams has outsized influence on setting the market. Call it the Knicks effect. As long as the Knicks keep so badly overpaying, it distorts the market in the players favor and makes it very difficult for the average franchise to retain quality talent over time without matching those prices.

The owners and teams have really done a piss poor job in framing the argument in recent years. They need to establish a better framework for the value of players and what deserves star salaries, vs starter salaries, vs bench salaries, etc.

Not every single starter in the NBA should be paid $10+ million a year. The numbers just don't add up.

Aaron Brooks would be an interesting addition. With the way Felton has played it wouldn't take much for him to be the starting PG. In March we will have what 15 games remaining? So players signing then would only be paid 15/82 of their full years salary. I bet Brooks would be more interested in going to a team he has a shot of a big role then a mid level salary, especially since he won't be paid 80% of it! So even if we only have the veteran minimum available for the rest of the season perhaps he'd consider coming back to Oregon. He could then increase his stock and try to get a big contract for next season.

Did I ever make that case? I said he's playing a like a borderline all-star and now he's getting paid like one ... that's it.

Batum demand to be traded coming in 3... 2... 1...

Well thank God we don't have a full-time GM with experience to muck up the negotiations.

Lol @ Quick trying to start shit. That last tweet had nothing to do with the stuff about his extension.

Batum's got a lot of shit going on right now. He's probably frustrated.
