• Amazing as it sounds, Portland is on pace to rank last in the NBA in fastbreak points for the FOURTH STRAIGHT SEASON.

Nate.....take some chill pills.

I wonder if Nate has any of these other symptoms of Anal Retentiveness:

...he folds his dirty clothes before putting them in the hamper.

...he organizes his closet by color, season, and fabric.

...he requires no less than 200 threads per inch on his sheets...

...and they are tucked so tightly that he really could bounce a quarter on them.

...he has to have all boxes in the kitchen facing the same way and in order by size.

...he has all his canned goods organized by type, flavor, and use...

...and they're all facing the front.

...he alphabetizes his spices.

...he's on a "calorie-counting" diet and he counts the calories in the hot sauce on his "Big Beef Burrito Supreme."

...he collects the little postcards in magazine issues for recycling.

...all his books, CDs, and movies have to be in alphabetical order.

...he removes the tires to wash inside the wheel-wells of his vehicles.

...he flames every person who sent him email because the emails weren't spelled correctly or were grammatically incorrect.

...every e-mail reply that he sends has been through a grammar checker...

...and he corrects the original message.

...he actually bothered trying to convince someone that the 3rd millennium began on Jan 1, 2001.

Wow, I didn't figure we'd jump a bunch but I would have thought bringing in a Andre Miller would have gotten us out of last place.

Interesting, not sure if it's a big problem.

Hey, comedy but smaller. Great work.

We were the most efficient offense in the league last season. 7th this season. Who cares what pace we play at if we play efficiently?

Golden State #1...they have 7 more fast break points per game than wins this season. Awesome! There's 1 winning team in the top five in fast break points. Clearly that's not the key to winning basketball games.

On top of that, when the team actually does break out they look utterly clueless.

We will never win a playoff series with Ronald McDillon as the head coach.

Proof? Link?

Re: No more proof needed than this that McMillan is bordering on Anal Retentive insan

When you see that while we are 22nd in scoring overall, but 3rd in opposing points, it shows that the statistics are skewed. Are we last in fast break points, or fast break points percentage?

Tis a good point.

Great Point. Good thing we have Nate "the sarge" McMillan to whip all our young guns into shape.

I think he has chilled a bit since his own injury though

I just ran the numbers and we're still last even in terms of percentage of our points.

Fast break points as percent of total points per game:

Memphis (30-30) 17.35%
Atlanta (38-21) 16.32%
Minnesota (14-47) 15.59%
Sacramento (20-40) 15.43%
Dallas (40-21) 15.18%
Okla City (36-23) 15.15%
New Orleans (31-30) 14.74%

The Lakers need to run, they are 5th to last in PACE and have all that talent. They won't win a playoff series with Phil Jackson as their head coach...

Re: No more proof needed than this that McMillan is bordering on Anal Retentive insan

I bet we'd have more fast break points if we took more transition 3's. It wouldn't mean that we actually run more, or that we're getting more "easy" baskets, but it would make the "stat" look better.

Re: No more proof needed than this that McMillan is bordering on Anal Retentive insan

They've won about 47 of them with Phil Jackson as head coach.

HTH

Re: No more proof needed than this that McMillan is bordering on Anal Retentive insan

The problem is very simple. This team could run more, but Nate is too involved in play calling. That is why when Monty was running the show, the Blazers were a little more loose. When Nate couldn't yell out plays every time a posession happened, it stopped the Blazers from doing something which hurts their transition game. Whenever Nate yells out, the players stop and listen. If you are going to run a fast break, there is no time to wait for the coach to make up his mind. You have to trust the players, and let it just happen. Only bother to yell out plays if the team pulls back from a fast break situation. Otherwise, just STFU and get the hell out of the way.

Re: No more proof needed than this that McMillan is bordering on Anal Retentive insan

Yes it's funner to watch but has been proven time and time again basic half court basketball wins games and titles. I'd rather win tbh.

Oh shoot, well I guess PACE and winning playoff series don't really correlate then.

Ah thanks for the time on that. I wasn't sure if it would make much of a difference, but it is interesting to see the % stat. I'm thinking if we had a decent rebounding big who could start the break more that wouldn't be that bad either. For half of the current season our Center was Juwan Howard.

You are correct. But it helps to get all the easy buckets you can get. I guess what I am saying is, they don 't need to be last every year. Like 20th one year would be flat out great IMO. If you combine easy points with our current half court execution, you would have a very hard team to beat.

Nor does Ronald McDillon and winning playoff series correlate.

Tell your husband I said hello Mrs. McDillon.

Wrepped

edit: damn kid. I already wrepped you today I guess. You'll have to wait until someone else says something smart so I can wrepped them first.

Is 2 weeks ok?

What is also interesting about that list, is the top 6 "pace" teams, all suck. Just sayin. :ohno:

Re: No more proof needed than this that McMillan is bordering on Anal Retentive insan

Even if their pace isn't as fast, LA is a tremendous defensive team. We aren't.

To make up for that, we HAVE to try to score more, especially with all the versatile offensive talents on the roster. KP built this team to run, and Nate (and to a smaller extent, Roy) isn't letting it happen.

You must be mistaken. Ronald is a top defensive coach.

Nail. Head. wrepped.

Re: No more proof needed than this that McMillan is bordering on Anal Retentive insan

Well at least it isn't as bad as when Jarrett Jack and Viktor Kryapa were here. I remember one point they went 7 games without a fast break point. There is being last. And then there is being awful.

We were a better defensive team than LA before GO went down. Just imagine what our defense would have looked like with GO, Joel and when Batum came back. The biggest impact of the injuries, this year, was clearly on the defensive side.

That is correct. Our team defense was very high ranked until Oden and Pryz went down. For some reason when two 7 footers go out who block a lot of shots, it effects that....

Re: No more proof needed than this that McMillan is bordering on Anal Retentive insan

During the last road trip they had 12, 20, 12, 18, & 23 fastbreak points for an average of 17/game. So maybe they are trying to run more of late.

But I agree that it's a pretty unimportant statistic, at least as far as winning is concerned.

Tince set you up and you bit "Hook, Line, and Sinker". Is it not obvious that this stat is meaningless in terms of winning?
