Wake me when Philly is relevant. They've clearly established themselves as the clowns of the NBA. I take everything they do with a grain of salt as they literally remain the doormat of the NBA for years.

Actually, Philly is in very good shape, if.....
1) Embiid can stay healthy
2) Simmons can stay healthy
3) They hit on their PG draft pick this year.

Those are the 3 players they want to pay long term. If it works out, they will be VERY good, starting THIS October.

I dunno. Doesn't seem like much of a return to me. Just because Anderson was a first-round pick doesn't mean he's going to really be any good. If being a first-rounder means you're going to be any good, wake me up when Nolan Smith reappears in the NBA.

I get why NO didn't grab him, but I don't consider this a great haul for Philly, either.

I really like Noel the player, but I hate the contract. He's gonna be a RFA , and I don't the idea of us giving up long term liquid assets for the opportunity to match potentially poison pill offers this summer.

Especially given our financial situation.

Bogut will likely get bought out and go join some contending team. I wouldn't be surprised to see Okafor stay put for now. Damn, Philly has a lot of good draft picks.

If I were them, this doesn't change my position on Okafor. Saric can play 4, and that will end up being Simmons' eventual position. Embiid has 5 on lockdown.

I'd do my best to get assets that will help me get a PG for JO.

Yeah what gets overlooked is that Noel would have had to be re-signed next Summer. If Philly were not planning to do that, his value was going to be low. You could say that they would be able to trade him next year with long contract but would they really be able to if this was a max deal, and it likely would? Not many teams would trade pieces for Noel tied to a $100M contract.

PHI is one of the few teams that could have easily afforded him. When both Noel and Embiid were healthy and playing, PHI went on a tear (winning 9 of 12). But, it looks like they prefer to perpetually prefer to be in lose now mode. Gotta get those high lottery picks so you can turn around and give them away 2 - 3 years later for low first round picks.

Evidently, winning isn't part of The Process.

Interesting comparison between the two teams. Bot have excellent young centers and a wing who has great size and athleticism....but as of yet has not become great shooters. It will be interesting to see how it plays out since you really needs great shooters to win in the playoffs.

I agree though that this return is poor if you look at the whole picture. They traded a #6 pick who did quite well and was one of the best defenders in the league for a disappointing #21 pick from 2015 draft and a pick that is still a year away.

Back in December, I wanted to get all three of Noel, Ibaka and Bogut. Turns out all three were available, and at reasonable prices - and we got NONE of them.

Noel is so much better than Plumlee though. At least he's a very good defender. Plumlee was a very good passer for a big, but that's not really that important in the grand scheme of things.

Okafor was a high lottery pick and he's available for a late first round pick. Those guys may never become superstars, but both are still ridiculously young and have a lot of upside. Not every player you take in the lottery is going to become a superstar, but you still need great role players. Noel as a 20-year old rookie was already an elite defender. Okafor may not fit as a starter, but he would be a great instant offense off the bench 6th man.

They draft these guys high in the lottery and 2 - 3 years later, they "cash them in" for lower picks. Will they ever actually try to win?

It doesn't matter anymore. Kudos for him on that trade, but he could have done so much more.
This right here is drafting DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin without trading for Chris Paul.

I didn't say they were playing together. They were both playing and they were winning. They won almost as many games during that 12 game stretch as they did the entire previous season.

Yes, Noel was backing up Embiid, but with Embiid's injury history, there would have always been games where Noel would start when Embiid was out, at they actually CAN play together, at least for 10 - 12 minutes a game. They gave away a very young, elite defender for what will end up being a late lottery pick in a weak draft.
