Norm Powell Contract

Unfortunately, it might be the only win of the offseason.
nah...we got rid of a glass big man , Melo and Kanter moved on setting the stage for 2 way players and sign Zeller who has both feet so far....and we have assets..oh...then there's the coaching staff.....that I thought you'd see as a win. We drafted a young PF and got a couple 3 pt shooters on the bench..and we're probably not done

The Norm deal is a bigger win for us than most think....I thought it was a great interview.
It's a really great contract for a two way player that could have his biggest year ever, if he's given the touches and shots he deserves and doesn't have to defend guys who have a size advantage on him every night.

With ball movement you wear bigger guys down...Norm talks about his transition games....if you defend on a string you can frustrate the hell out of bigger slower players...Norm has a long wingspan ...longest of all our starting guards...he has a quickness advantage and he's stillbe strong..he's going to teach Dame and CJ how it's done given a training camp and coach who wants to be a top defensive team....I'm all in on Norm

He got hung out to dry against MPJ... I know he's very tall for a SF but he also got over powered and shot over by a lot of other opponents last season. I'm not saying he'll be the worst defending 3 in the league, I just think he'd be one of the best defending 2s.

I'm sure Norm will guard twos depending on the matchups...as I said...it has to be 5 guys defending not ISO defense..he and Roco need to know how to do that effortlessly..he talked about Toronto's success with it...moving forward I'm not gauging anything this team can do by what happened after the deadline when rusty CJ and Nurk came back and Norm had to learn to play with them on the court....he wants a real training camp and it will make us a better team to have one...I'm stoked ..I'm sure we'll stagger guards as well and use length when we need it...I expect our defense to look like the Olympic team's defense under Pop..our Olympic team was pretty small

I'm not worried about the bench. I'm worried about still having cj on this team. We have norm. Cj is expendable.

It's pretty universal on all fronts that the only way you trade CJ is to get equal value in return. That doesn't look like much of a possibility at this point.
Looks to me like CJ will be a Blazer next season.

What did he say about Stotts ?
He has high praise for Stotts and said he inherited an elite offensive team that needed to improve defensively to get to the next level...which coincidentally is exactly what Stotts said all year...Pop praised Terry Stotts as well...Stotts knew 29th ranked defense wasn't going to make a run in the post season..(I think we got closer to 17th ranked after Norm and Nurk came on) ..I think Chauncey has one big difference maker on his staff...Roy Rogers..this guy is more passionate about the process than any of our old assistant coaches at least vocally in public...I'm loving RR on the staff...he also emphasized ball movement and not allowing Dame and CJ to dominate the scoring..to spread it out...that's actually holding Dame and CJ accountable...

he said defense wasn’t really important last season and that he can do more than just stand around and shoot.

11 minute mark for the defense not as important comment. It’s actually comical how bad Stotts was. Imagine the amount of shit the players talked in private if they’re saying stuff like this in public.

Roy Rogers, not Rodney Rogers. Rodney Rogers is paralyzed from the neck down (not to be confused with Meyers Leonard, who is paralyzed from the neck up).

thank you ...fixed...I think I'll call him Rock and Roll

he was always going to be a Blazer because Olshey is secure in his job

"equal value" is totally subjective. What generates a trade is when two teams get to a point that they assign approximate value to the assets exchanged. I'd think what is stopping a CJ trade is not an equal value equation, but Portland assigning unrealistic value to their side of the equation. That's not to say the other side doesn't do some of the same thing; case in point: Morey

I think what is stopping a CJ trade is that Dame and the Blazers actually value CJ and don't want to lose his scoring talent ....all the trade rumbling is coming from people who are pretty much just anti Olshey....I'm hoping Chauncey sorts the guard defense out and insists on ball movement from CJ...something he needs badly to hear from his coach. I think Dame was humbled in Tokyo to as far as ISO ball....I think they both know those days left the building when Terry parted ways

That might speak to the idea that CJ has less value than many people here think.

The Athletic has CJ in Tier 4 of their list of the top 125 players in the league. Norm is in Tier 5. Given the guys on the list, I don't have a real problem with that classification for CJ. Here's a screen shot of part of the Tier 4 list:

They've only gone through Tier 3 so far, which has legit All-Star guys like Booker, Mitchell, KAT, Beal, etc. Presumably, Dame will make Tier 1, but that remains to be seen.

Gilgeous-Alexander will likely be an Olympian this summer, and is sure to get better with time.

Canada lost SGA, Murray, Brooks, and Boucher right before qualifying. Could've been a silver medal team.
makes me happy to see this....does Nik Stauskas play for Canada?

Canada's team is virtually all NBA players, now. I'm so sick that we didn't get to represent this year.

Jamal Murray
Cory Joseph
Nickeil Alexander-Walker
SGA
Lu Dort
Mychal Mulder
RJ Barrett
Andrew Wiggins
Dillon Brooks
Chris Boucher
Dwight Powell
Trey Lyles
Andrew Nicholson

Coach: Nick Nurse

Tristan Thompson doesn't play for Canada.

Guys like Anthony Bennett, Kelly Olynyk, Nik Stauskas, Tyler Ennis, Justin Jackson, Brandon Clarke, and Mfiondu Kabengele are on the periphery.

Josh Primo looks like a lock for future teams if not for the fact we're overflowing with shooting guards.

Don't mention that to @DUB .
