Norm RoCo traded

This is cleaning up Olshey's mess. He overpaid to acquire RoCo (in terms of assets) and then he overpaid NormP (in terms of money).

Powell is a borderline starter being paid much higher than that. On the court, he's a positive, but including his contract he's a push and maybe even a negative. On the Blazers, especially if/when we retain Ant, he was definitely a net loss.

RoCo is a borderline starter, too, and while hos contract is obviously much better, it might have taken the value of RoCo to get the Clippers to take Norm's contract.

I hate this trade and it definitely makes us worse in the name of accounting and money, but we're painted into a corner here (as has been obvious for some time) and we're going to have to take some medicine before it gets better. ESPECIALLY if the team retains the delusion that a Dame/CJ pairing will actually ever work at their current salaries.

Blazers make a stupid ass trade. Come listen to Torey and Eric rant about it.

Norman is getting normal money for a starter, not really overpaid.

1st off is this a good trade talent for talent -- HELL NO -- no question
On the surface this trade looks like complete dog shit but before going into a complete meltdown mode and wanting Cronin fired and Jody to sell the team let's see how this plays out til the deadline and prolly til end of draft ... THEN this can be judged.

Until then sit back and enjoy watching the Blazers tank the rest of the season.

Ah yes, the bigger picture.

I guess all that's left is death

I don’t think this cleans up anything. At least not very well.

Anyone who is anyone is clowning us. So embarrassed to be a Blazer fan right now
I'm AM embarrassed, but probably more sleepy. The Blazers were boring before Ant went off. Now, they're boring again.

Hopefully, they'll start Ant and Johnson, to develop them and Tank into some sort of decent pick.

Now watch Nurkic walk away in FA

Personally, I never cared much for Powell, and RoCo was better in Houston, a disappointment here.
I guess that is why I am not so upset.
Cronin has his eyes on 2023, I think this is a set-up move.
Lets face it, 2022 is over anyway.

I guess it's possible that everyone in this forum, everyone on Twitter, everyone on Reddit, and pretty much every human being who follows the NBA overestimated Powell and Covington's actual trade value, and this is actually a good outcome.

But I doubt it.

first off, for those saying this is clearing space to re-sign Ant and Nurkic, keep in mind that with Winslow, Johnson, and Bledsoes guarantee, Portland is assuming 10.5M in salary next season. Powell's salary next season is 16.8M. So this only clears 6.3M in salary. Think the Blazers can re-sign both Ant and Nurk for 6.3M?

**************************************************

trying to find a silver lining: if Portland can't find another trade for Bledsoe they could waive him right after the deadline. They SHOULD waive him right after the deadline. This will help the tank, and that's the only bright spot right now

Gary Trent was a second round pick and Roco wasn't drafted so the pick outrage is weird to me...Roco played overseas before the NBA....now people think he's a stud? Neil over paid for lots of players but Joe gets to clean house and put his own stamp on the roster....could be Norm wanted to go and requested the Clips because he's from San Diego and lives off season in Vegas......treating players good and making a favorable trade with another GM might just make that GM do you a solid down the road...Joe is networking and the trades people were trade machining away here probably had no momentum ....takes two teams to agree

they traded two guys who had good value as starters for scraps and salary dump which I assume will be used to resign Nurk and Ant. not even getting one 1st round pick back is gut wrenching. I also believe Billups had some say in this, still just sick to my stomach on this trade.

local media unsurprisingly quiet during this whole thing. deal came out of left field.

Sure until the deadline you can't for sure say that this trade is the most shitty trade ever but once that deadline passes on Thursday at noon we will not be able to trade Bledsoe's contract without guaranteeing it. So if we do move some of these pieces in a deal that gets us much bigger and better things than Norm and RoCo by Thursday then yeah there will have been a method to this very obvious madness, after that it's just madness.

first, nobody misses Olshey

2nd, Cronin may lose his job with that...or he could have orders from Seattle to tear the team down to the foundation

but for fuck sakes, to not get one 1st out of Powell and RoCo is insane
I’d gladly take Olshey over Cronin.
And if someone wouldn’t, theyre a moron.

what about roco contract (13,000,000) and cj mccollum possibly getting traded

that should be enough to re-sign nurk & ant

we lost 30,000,000 and got 10,000,000 in salary... thats 20,000,000 down

Cronin being shit has nothing to do with the fact that it was far past time to fire Neil. Just because Joe seems to have put the car in reverse and Neil left it in neutral for the past five seasons doesn't mean either one of them should have this job. (Again I am going to withhold complete judgment on Joe until the deadline passes)

So Joe asked Jody, do I have a shot as keeping this position long term. Jody's response get us under the cap and look at building for the future. Oh, and, makes something happen now.

IMO...
Got rid of dead weight and cleared a little cap room?
I cool with that.
Big picture hunting.
