With Baylor's women's team losing at the last minute tonight, I've been seeing a lot of people saying Brittany Griener could be an NBA player. I just want to say how ridiculous that is. Growing up, there was one chick who I used to always play against, who's an All-SEC player now at Arkansas. She was a hell of a player, but when you put her on the court with a bunch of men, even a court where most players didn't go on to play NCAA ball, she was a scrub. I always just gave her credit for being able to compete with the guys, but to assume that Griener could make it, even in the NBDL, just because she dominated the women's game, is a perspective from someone who's never actually played the game on the AAU level and played against girls in camps, etc.
Just had to rant about that one for a minute, because the gap between the competition between genders is wider than the Pacific Ocean. The old saying used to be, "no dunking but better fundamentals," but that's not even true by a long-shot. I was never even a great shooter, but when I went to elite camps, I'd still clown most of the women in shooting drills. Watching a women's game is like watching a men's game played under water.
