NYPost expose on Jody Allen's toxic behavior

You can't produce a single actual article with facts. It's all rumors about possible names. I guess you don't care about women or POC getting actual interviews for the position. They just handed it to another straight white dude and didn't even give other people the opportunity to interview. Or prove me wrong and produce one actual shred of evidence that they held interviews.

From what I'm reading, it sounds like you're both right. They looked into some names like Prince and Ainge. Got a no from both of them. Never brought in anyone for an official interview. So it wasn't a full blown search but they did check with Prince and others before making the final decision.

I will say, from my time in the public eye, I was surprised at how the press was wrong about 90% time when writing about what happened behind the scenes at "Bones." I was also around the Broadway musical THE PRODUCERS when it was coming together and I know for a fact that a certain person (not Mel Brooks) wrote a song for the show even though Mel was given sole credit for doing so. Finally, people think Google is all knowing. An example, someone types "I googled so and so's net worth (which took them to a bullshit site) and it's.." whatever. The number on the internet for ME is COMPLETELY wrong. But I see people on the internet referring to figures from that site all the time and treat it as fact.

LOL..... I'm talking about the topic. I provided multiple articles. Actual articles. From reputable people who work in the industry. You have provided nothing.

Don't play the victim card now after you were the one taking personal shots yesterday. Toughen up.
Bullshit. You attacked riverman's character when you suggested he doesn't care about women or POCs getting job interviews. It is off-topic to do that.

This is some “I did my own research” level shit though.

It’s time to step away from Facebook.

Not opening up interviews prevents women and POC from having at least a shot at the job. If you support the team giving the job away without due process, you clearly don’t value diversity among general managers.

Who cares what strangers think of you Kinger. As soon as I stopped caring what people thought of me I blossomed.

And I’m not some big wig celebrity like you. I’m just a rando poster on S2.

If you want to get back in the limelight you can get on like one of those VH1 washed up celebrity shows. I think they got like a Rehab one and fit club one and maybe even a Makeover one.

This team didn't interview any other candidates for GM and we didn't make our free agents go out and see what their value is on the market. It's a very similar behavior. It's lazy. We just hired our top executive that was left after Neil was fired (he turned around and hired a new staff which is encouraging) and we gave Nurk and Ant deals that were far above what experts speculated they would get on the free agent market, without making them shop for those offers with other teams. You can say that we interviewed other executives but that contradicts reports from legitimate sources and you provide none. You can infer that Ant and Nurk got offers before the new league year but you have no proof and other teams would be risking losing future picks.

We didn't explore the vast pool of candidates for GM we just stuck with Joe and we didn't make Ant or Nurk shop themselves we just bid against ourselves like we have in the past. We can still be a competitive team but these aren't wise/well informed decisions. It's better to be smart than lucky and by not exploring every option possible we're relying on getting lucky rather than being smart.
I don't think it's bad business to strike a deal before shutting them down last season, which is what many here suspected. It sends a message to the league: we take care of our players. We made our offer to Simons quickly and he took it quickly which shows he cares about playing here. Remember- this goes two ways. SIMONS could've chosen to play the field. He could've said "I'll consider it but let me check around." He didn't do that because he likes Portland and felt he was being paid fairly. Next year or the year after, we will feel VERY lucky to only be paying him 25million. I think it was a good deal. Hopefully, other players see that our team takes care of you if you come work here.

That's ridiculous. Riverman should be able to support the hiring of Joe and have a discussion here without being called a racist or sexist. At no point did he say he doesn't believe women or POCs deserve jobs in the NBA.

I didn't say I care what strangers think of me. I was talking about people believing what they read on the internet which in my experience is rarely true. I'm happy right now, directing shows in the PNW before traveling back to NYC in the fall.

Show me where I said either of those words. Racist or sexist.

I said that supporting a hire that does not go through a conventional hiring process takes away an opportunity for women and POC to interview for the job, and if you don’t agree then clearly it’s not something that you care very much about. There’s a reason why the NFL has the Rooney rule.

Nice! Sounds like you got a good gig.

"NateBishop is homophobic and anti-trans. At no point in this thread, did he say he thought people from the LGBTQ+ community should've been given an interview for the GM job."

See how that works, Nate? It's exactly what you did to Riverman.

Nah you’re just expanding on my point. By not opening up the hiring process they didn’t give gay or trans people an opportunity to interview for the job. I’m glad you agree with me. Thanks for bringing that up Eric.

No problem with what is in BOLD here. And what you say after that is an assumption. But that's not at all what you did to riverman. You attacked his character and said he doesn't care about women or POCs getting opportunities. That is where you went too far. Scroll back and read what you wrote. And then apologize.

Nope. You only care about women and POC. You dismissed LGBTQ+ people by not mentioning them at all in your argument. Get it now? That's what you did to Riverman. You put words in his mouth. It was uncalled for.

I said he didn’t value it. That’s a different word than care.

Nah, not gonna apologize. The job should have been opened up and they should have held interviews.

River,

It doesn’t bug you that she’s a known pervert who forces her male bodyguards to wear skimpy clothing and forces them to give her lap dances?

They settled before it went to trial in typical Allen family fashion. Apparently the list was damn near 25 current and former bodyguards.

Was it THAT bad MZ?

You said CARE. You have no idea what he values. Or cares about. If you asked him, I'm sure he'd love all sorts of people to get jobs in the NBA. He had specific points to make but they weren't enough for you completely judge his character. You went too far. You were wrong. I'll let it go after this post.

Aha! You just proved that I DID mention LGBTQ+ and trans in a roundabout way.

I said they hired another STRAIGHT white dude and didn’t give other people a chance to interview. I never said ONLY women and POC. I mentioned them specifically because the NBA is mostly made up of POC but they are under represented in management. I mentioned women specifically because we are finally seeing them break into pro sports. But I never said only those two groups.

You can try another angle to trap me though. It’s kinda fun to watch.

thank you Eric

When my church's pastor passed away a couple years ago, they engaged in a full search. Contacted the NWCBA, the mission board, the local seminary--any contact we had that might produce a worthy candidate. After all the searching, all the interviews, we ended up hiring our associate pastor, who many thought should have just been handed the job initially.

It's not the hiring of Cronin that Nate took issue with; it's the hiring process. I think Joe would actually have a lot more support in here if the Blazers had conducted a full search and he had still emerged as the best candidate. As it is, he's basically viewed by many as the beneficiary of corporate nepotism, or perhaps as the henchman promoted after doing the dirty work (stripping down the roster). Thus there will continuously be doubt about him ability to perform the job effectively.

I posted that no interviews were conducted face to face but their targets were contacted and two refused...the other's I'm not sure why they passed on....as to people projecting corporate nepotism or calling Joe a "henchman" doing dirty work that people will continue to doubt his ability....that's a choice...not a fact...I completely support Joe, found Quick's article saying no search was conducted by citing "two anonymous agents" less convincing than Chris Haynes report that several candidates had been targeted...if you actually read the back and forth, you might not agree with me but at no time did I say they conducted face to face interviews....I said they hired their number one candidate and didn't waste time doing it....there's no argument to be made about it...you either believe the Quick story or Woj rumor or Haynes or the CBS reporting....which said they gauged interest in a list of candidates...other than that ...Eric was right...there was no need to insult me for having an opinion or linking an article that supported that opinion...Quick proved nothing in his article....I'll believe Haynes in this circumstance but not the Quick assumption. For the record, I don't care if people want to frame it to suit their own vitriol against Vulcan and Jody. I don't have that issue nor do I need to have that issue....I think it's fabricated ...This started with me answering a Hoopsguru question with something I read concerning it..it should have ended there but ..you can see what that led to ..I'll never quite understand how people hate the woman who fired Neil Olshey and pine for the guy who hired Neil Olshey....but I won't call those people "anti-woman"

Nowhere in the article (which you didn’t actually link btw) does it say anyone turned anything down. It cited rumors from Haynes and Jake Fischer about possible names that were being considered. Your article doesn’t say anything useful. I linked two articles that specifically state that there wasn’t a search or interview process.

And this is further supported by the fact that the team never released any information. The coaching search was very public. We knew who interviewed and we knew when. The team was very up front about that. But now magically there’s a secret hiring process that we didn’t hear about?

If you are okay with them not opening up the job and interviewing other people, you are okay that we didn’t give women, POC, or gay/trans/lgbtq+ or any other living human being a chance at the job.

But now magically there’s a secret hiring process that we didn’t hear about?
A search is not a secret hiring process...it usually entails phoning agents and gauging interest if they aren't interested....it's no secret.. as to the rest...you can feel slighted by the front office if you like.. they didn't waste time and Joe won the job in short order..also not a secret hiring process..just business. I sincerely doubt the job was attractive to many GM candidates given the situation at the time...believe whatever you like... Hiring from within is pretty common in the headhunting business.
