Obama memo justifies drone-war killing of Americans..

I don't think we have really come to terms with the logical extension of drone attacks: the marriage of a drone with an IED. A remote control helicopter with a bomb strapped to it could do incredible damage, and there's really nothing you can do about it. And it can work both ways--a president could be assassinated in the same way a child in Afghanistan can. We're setting a very dangerous precedent.

We tend to think of defending ourselves in a line-of-sight kind of way. If there's a wall or plexiglass between you and the unknown, you are probably safe from a targeted attack. If you have great aim (as our military does) and the other side misses a lot (as Al Quaeda tends to) you have a massive advantage.

That's all going to change.

So, let me see if I understand the rationale of the liberal mind.

Waterboarding = bad
Murdering potentially innocent American citizens = good

What a country!

Let's just turn off our brains, make up random shit that nobody is saying, and throw it on the wall.

Now I remember why I gave up on this board. Thanks for the reminder. Adios.

If you paid any attention to what liberals are saying, you would know that nobody is happy with Obama on this issue.

PBS did a NOVA show on drones. They have huge ones that can stay in the air for more than 24 hours at a time. They have really small ones that are basically guided mortar rounds or grenades.

They've fired at least 1000 bombs from drones already.

The drones crash a lot more than planes. If the pilot turns too hard, they lose contact with the satellite and crash...

Think about when the troops come home and there are 30,000 of these things patrolling our skies. The spying on citizens angle alone is not a good thing.

I think I'll post this link in response to jlprk posting about Rumsfeld signing off on sleep deprivation.

So true, liberals are whiny hypocrites for the most part. It is all about Team BLUE for them.

Reporters on TV do not give a shit.

I don't care what liberals think about it. The fact is that Obama and his Justice Department are doing this. What difference does it make what you "think" about it if you're not going to do anything about it?

Says the guy just commenting on the liberal mindset, which you clearly know so much about.

I'm sorry, I didn't know we lived in a society where we had power to change the president's actions. What are we supposed to do? "Popular" liberals are taking it to Obama about it in the press and other media. It's not going to change.

Again, if this was Bush...

Just to reiterate:

...it would still be just as FUCKED UP! :dunno:

there is a lot of truth in this statement. I spent the last month only listening to OPB/PBS..nothing else, just to see what they would report on. I have beem bombarded with stories almost daily on the Dream liner and the failures that are ongoing...very hot topic, hmm I learned that cats kill birds and small rodents in an alarming number. Thought was that they killed somewhere around .8B but they have concluded that the figure could be as high as 3.5 B...hmm, all of the problems with the fiscal cliff are the fault of the GOP that are stupid and can not see reason. There failure to aid thepresident in his missin to save the econemy have caused it to stumble..the set back in the GDP was also to blame by the GOP and their actions..it has been nothing but sanatized bullshit, I have come to the opinion that the CPB stands for corporate public brainwashing....never was there anything that questioned anything what so ever..

Another valid reason for every Real American to own military-level weapons, the stated intention of the government to use drones to kill innocent American citizens. Innocent until proven guilty is the foundation of our legal system, and it's not something you can legally skirt just because you're president. I wonder what one would use to protect their family from a US drone attack?

Are weaponized drones covered under the 2nd Amendment?

Can I legally strap a gun to a remote control helicopter?

Actually, you can.

Pipe bombs are illegal, but people do make them quite often. Attach to one of those RC helicopters and you're good to go.

All weapons are protected by The Second Amendment. If it exists, The Second Amendment gives you the right to own it and carry it, without infringement of any kind, including background checks or registration.

Scary stuff.

Murdering potentially innocent American citizens = even better

What a country! Conservatives are whiny hypocrites for the most part. It is all about Team RED for them.

Republicans are hypocritical on spending, not their violent/obnoxious patriotism. They've always been consistent on that so your parody doesn't make sense.

Liberals are whiny hypocrites, TV reporters are liberal so they earned that label.

In principle, I have no problem with taking out a terrorist before he can act. The police often kill people who are in the act of committing a crime.

The "act" is nebulous overseas when the guy in question is thought to be a conspirator of some sort and is taken out by a drone while eating dinner with his family. It isn't nebulous when our soldiers are on patrol, return fire, and an american taliban is killed.

The targeting of enemy leaders is actually a radical departure from precedent. I mean it's been done, but not as a matter of policy.

No even that is wrong, if it can be proven later that they hit an innocent person. The police blow as well.

I am disappointed in the Obama administration. I am happy Ron Wyden is doing something though.
