No one in the US has polled any skinny person I know to fit this poll....but I monitor my calls and delete shit like that ...I don't disagree with you Denny about cutting out your carbs to lose weight....I disagree with you blaming the govt for obesity and claiming no carbs is the only way to lose weight...good luck with your dietary discipline...always a good thing

They don't poll people. They gather statistics from studies and from doctor visits.

I don't think diet should necessarily be no carb. It wasn't no carb before the 70s, and we had no epidemic. Due to government recommendations, mass quantities of carbs were added to the vast majority of foods available to us.

But once you are obese, better find a diet you can stick to or you will regain all the lost weight and then some.

The graphs are damning. There's a clear point where the epidemic took off. Not so coincidal with the food pyramid.

The epidemic is world wide. We became a major exporter of food and other nations took up our diet. Known now as the "Western Diet."

Really? What is the government daily recommendation of corn syrup?
The government food pyramid is almost pure carbohydrates at the base, and the row above - what they recommend people eat the most of.

What food isn't corn syrup in? Eat that.

If you've ever lived overseas...you'd realize that our American diet is the butt of jokes more often than not...the Mediterranean diet is gaining in popularity all over the world but it made me chuckle thinking about what my French friends overseas would say to that comment...they hate American food with a passion..I used to tell them they'd never had American food unless they'd visited our heartland and dined with farmers....that's the American diet I relate too....not the Californian, drive in movie diet craze

Buy meat from a local farmer....have it butchered anyway you like....if you control your food choices you don't need to feel victimized by all the packaged goods the tv tries to sell you......you should be angry at television...not the govt
I do that. Meat is way up the food pyramid. The masses are encouraged to not eat much.

The stats show 70% - and growing (literally) - aren't y

So none. There is no daily recommendation of corn syrup.

CNN)The developing world is seeing rapid urbanization, with more than half of the world's population now living in cities and this figure expected to reach 70% by 2050.

But with this progression comes an urban lifestyle -- often meaning less physical activity and the consumption of a "Western" diet.

...

is a Western diet?

"The biggest features [of a Western diet] are overconsumption of over-refined sugars, highly refined and saturated fats, animal protein and a reduced intake of plant-based fibers," says Ian Myles, from the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. This translates to a diet high in fat, red meat, salt and sugars, and low in fiber.

The government is paying for the corn syrup.

A carbohydrate is a carbohydrate.

Bottom two rows of the food pyramid.

Corporations use it because the government subsidizes it, making it plentiful and cheap.

People give up....resign themselves to living a life of endless appetite and entertainment and convenience.....there's even "I can't find the remote" rage these days....I always look at elderly folks on my walks with my wife and think the choices they make are ingrained in their faces....happiness, joy and health take practice and so do depression, anger and addictions to endless consumption....as Lao Tsu said.....be like water....it's that simple

Sugar is a drug...valium is a drug...first one's free...nowhere is it written that the powers of the world want the population to live a long time. Is it really such a bad thing that people who make really dumb life choices die earlier than others?

Yes Denny, that food pyramid means you should have 20 servings of only corn syrup a day. And that's what they give children in school.

You argue the weirdest shit.

Healthy people never visit the doctor Denny

Don't want to pay their medical bills.

Healthy people never visit the doctor Denny
Sure they do. You should have a checkup if you want to catch bad things early.

So you're thin, nobody is fat.

The government is wrong on that, too,

Fuck the science!

Don't want to pay their medical bills.
Dead people don't pay bills Denny..but having my neighbors and the general public access to health care is something I value....I was in Taipei during the SARS outbreak and that hasn't happened fortunately here....people forget we breathe the same air...for 8 months I was required by law along with everyone else to wear a facemask in public and have my temperature taken before going to work or into a shop or café....bleach killed SARS in the end...we feel like this stuff will never happen in the US but it will eventually. I was teaching Jr High School at the time and commuted by high speed rail. It was interesting to live in a world where publicly all you saw were people's eyes....sort of like a world of women in burkas

You do.

High fructose corn syrup accounts for half the added sugar in the American diet.

http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/high-fructose-corn-syrup.htm

How bad for you is high-fructose corn syrup?
If you want to cut down drastically the amount of processed food you eat, don't buy anything that has high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in it. Unfortunately, you'll have to have a strong liking for the taste of lettuce and notebook paper, because HFCS is in nearly everything: jelly, juice, sodas, whole-grain breads, cereals, ketchup, crackers, yogurt, sweet pickles, applesauce, salad dressing, ice cream, cough syrup and lots more.

I'm sorry, I didn't understand what you posted or how it pertained to the discussion..my bad....I have a heart murmer...my family gets checked up periodically but on a graph or chart....we don't balance out the hypocondriacs of the world..

The government is running up the bill.

No thanks.

It's not a good system in place as it stands here.....good grief...we agree about something after a rally that was about 50 posts long

You keep using anecdotal evidence. My neighbors aren't fat therefore nobody is.

The science is wrong, they're not surveying me and my friends. Etc.

A buddy of mine is a college professor. He says that over the years his typical student went from healthy weight to looking fat. How's that?

Babies are actually being born obese - something that is a new phenomenon.

I have no interest in the government telling the suckers who don't watch their diet how to kill themselves while jacking up ObamaCare rates and taxes to pay for the damages.

It was good before government got involved. Health care was cheap, there was no obesity epidemic.

I'm not doing the issue justice. It's far more than just obesity. It's a whole range of metabolic disease. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Diabetes. Heart disease. And so on.

As you said, healthy people don't go to the doctor. I win because I don't have to pay the bill.

My take....

The food pyramid is a joke. Processed foods are terrible for you. People eat way to much sugar and sodium due to companies manufacturing goods cheaper, meaning they do not use natural products, all the while the guidelines on the back of the packaging generally say its okay to eat said food. Then add in the "quick dinner" craze where families stopped making elaborate dinners and went towards quicker alternatives which are far less healthy.

What I do? When possible I buy only natural products. Bread that has all natural ingredients that has higher amounts of fiber in it, meats without added shit in them, lower sodium sauces without HFCS, condiments that are natural (Ketchup, Mayo, Peanut butter, coffee creamer). If I want potato chips or some snack like that, I'll eat Fritos. Why? (Corn, Oil, Salt). Pretty damn simple.

If I see things on the back that I don't recognize as being natural I shy away from them. I'm not crazy strict about it so obviously some things slide but I am fully aware and do not over indulge in those products.

Government should only focus on things that make companies put safer, healthier and more natural products on the market, with correct labeling. That's it. Fuck the "pyramid" because its nonsense. This would help overall with the food consumption of the people, mainly the people that are in poor urban environments that can't (go to a farm) or afford current "natural" products.

You really should skip the bread.

And beer.
