Shabazz' dad is having a bad few months:

DRAFT, LAW, SHABAZZ MUHAMMAD | SHARE
The indictment states that Holmes and his partners obtained “mortgage loans by fraudulent means to buy houses,” from 2006 to 2009. The U.S. attorney’s office is seeking to recover $2.5 million from Holmes. Shabazz, 20, played one year at UCLA before declaring for the NBA draft. UCLA recruited him while he played for Bishop Gorman High School. According to the court documents, Holmes is being detained pending a detention hearing. Las Vegas Review Journal

In Vegas today for a large group workout. Sergey Karasev, Lorenzo Brown, Deshaun Thomas & Erik Murphy the headliners.

Stopped reading when the #1 reason is that he's "small" for a SF when Shabazz himself has said that he's a SG. Seems like it IS "one of those unfair 'hater' pieces" right off the bat.

If said it before, I get why people worry about him but to write him off because of size or athletic ability is just too general. There are many examples of successful players that arent considered good sized or athletic. Someone will draft him obviously and something tells me that he will be at the least a good player for someone.

And for the record I really dont trust Doug Gottlieb as an NBA talent evaluator

I don't particularly want 'Bazz, but I can see some similarities with Zach Randolph, although different position. Both have somewhat fatty bodies and don't look very athletic. But, both are quick leapers (see recent article on Shabazz's quickness at getting off the ground) and end up being better than they look. I agree that Gottlieb's analysis is somewhat one dimensional. Athletically Shabazz is fine, and may even be very good. I'm more concerned with his lack of assists and his demeanor in a team setting.

The only thing that concerns me about Shabazz is his "handles". He looks like he is working hard on them, but I don't want any SG's that can't attack the rim. We already have a SG who is a spot up shooter and can spread the floor. But Wes is limited due to his average ball handling skills.

If Shabazz can take his man off the dribble and get into the lane and score.....I want him. We desperately need someone who attacks the rim. (Besides Lillard)

Cannaan is projected as second-round pick and said he has taken advice from Portland's Damian Lillard, who played at mid-major

"Celtics have a promise to draft Schroeder"? But they've already got the ACTUAL Rajon Rondo...

I knew the C's loved to draft the BWPA (best white player available), but that's ridiculous.

Regarding Muhammed, I think dropping like a stone in the draft can be a healthy and humbling experience. He's had his ass kissed ever since he was in jr. high. If we drafted him, we have good enough leadership to keep him in his place and to get him to work hard. I wouldn't be upset to take him at #10. However, I think he'll go higher.

Report: Cavaliers have Nerlens Noel on top of draft board http://dlvr.it/3S5kRF

The Cavs are on the clock with the No. 1 pick. Sources say that Kentucky center Nerlens Noel remains atop their team Big Board. However, Georgetown forward Otto Porter Jr. and Maryland center Alex Len are also in the mix….

I agree. While his apparent egocentrcism is a bit worrisome, he's a young, immature kid - so even if it's not to be expected it's at least understandable. And it would seem that it would be better for him to be drafted by a team where he won't have the opportunity to feel like he's the centerpiece. If he were to fall to us it's quite evident that Lillard is the jewel in our crown, and even LMA (and possibly Nic & Wes) would be higher in the pecking order, and I don't think there's any way he couldn't see that. Bringing him off the bench for his rookie year should also do something to temper his ego.
The worst case scenario for him would be to go to a team that wasn't already building around someone.

Haha Nice

Cavs general manager Chris Grant and his staff spent more time than anyone watching Noel this season, according to Kentucky head coach John Calipari. In fact, Grant recommended the surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, that Noel used for his ACL surgery. The Cavs also lean heavily on advanced metrics, and those numbers, regardless of the system, strongly favor Noel.

I've seen people saying he isn't even a first round pick in the draft, that's just crazy to me. I think he may be underrated at this point, which is kind of crazy when you think of all of the hype he had coming out of high school. I'd love to take a big man with our pick, and then if Shabazz has a tumble, package our 2nd rounders and Greek for a mid first rounder and snatch him up.

I really like Zeller if he's available at 10 and I don't think he is. I wouldn't mind Muhammad either, but our starting SG still wouldn't be solved. We need to get a guy who can put the ball on the floor to ease up pressure on Damian.

As long as he is groomed as a (strictly) PF.

Compare his two years at IU -- he bulked up to 240+ this past year and looked like garbage compared to his FR year. He's now back down to his FR year playing weight.

I'm down with Zeller as PFOTF. Plus the HCP freak out would be entertaining.

Former Creighton and Rutgers big man Greg Echenique will work out for the Washington Wizards June 3, the Phoenix Suns June 18 and the Nets June 19, his agent told SNY.tv.

The 6-foot-9, 260-pound center has already worked out for the Boston Celtics, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Portland Trail Blazers.

“I think the Blazers was my best workout yet,” Echenique told SNY.tv of Friday’s workout. “I thought I played hard and finished well every time I had the ball. I got some good feedback from the staff.

Forward Kelly Olynyk is likely to be drafted between picks 10 and 20.
Olynyk is in the same boat as Zeller and had one of the more interesting workouts I saw. While Dieng and Withey were on one side of the court working with big men Brian Scalabrine and Will Perdue, Olynyk was working out with a group of guards including Marquette's Vander Blue.

That's telling. Much like Zeller, Olynyk is being marketed to teams not as a center (the position he played at Gonzaga) but as a 3 or a 4. He certainly has the offensive skill set for it. Olynyk excels at putting the ball on the floor and shooting the basketball. He did not look out of place among the guards who were there and actually shot it better than Blue. On Wednesday he showed off terrific range on his jumper nailing NBA 3-pointer after NBA 3-pointer.

If Olynyk can shoot like that in workouts, he might convince a lot of GMs to take him as a stretch 4. Whether he can convince anyone to take him as a 3 is another question entirely.

The quiet before the storm?

This place is going to be crackalackin with news and rumors in the next couple weeks when workouts start taking place with teams.

Everyone's sleepin' on Hardaway Jr... He solves a lot of problems and is easily gotten.

So the only players we've had workout for us is D'League type talent?

I hope the Blazers are working him out - and that he kills it.

I saw enough Michigan games to know that Hardaway is not a good pick for the Blazers.

If they are going to go after a son of a former NBA player, I hope they go after Glen Rice.

Hardaway Jr. in the lotto?

No.

Somewhere in the 20's is a more realistic spot for him. IMO he's a backup on this level. Would much rather have Larkin.

In a text message, Brandon Triche said he would work out for Portland on Friday. After Friday's workout with the Trail Blazers, Triche will work out for the Sacramento Kings on Monday followed by another session with the New York Knicks on Wednesday. The Post-Standard
