I still like Dieng and IMO he is the most ready to step in now and contribute of all the C's in this draft, and while he probably does not have the upside of some of the others the also IMO has the least "bust potential". 10 is too high, I think he goes 15-20

Its not really an insult. Dieng was a good-not-great college player and looks to translate into another athletic, defensive minded tweener PF/C. Hes taller than both those guys (1 inch taller than Udoh) but lighter too and has a smaller wingspan than both. Statistically, Udoh's last season at Baylor (same age as Dieng is now) was probably statistically better than Dieng's.

Can't speak much for Biyombo, but the way I see it Dieng will probably be a better rebounder than Udoh. I don't think he'll be a better defender. Udoh is incredible all around on that end of the floor and hes added weight since entering the league. At 6'11ish and 230 lbs Dieng could get tossed around a bit if he struggles to put on weight (keep in mind we're talking about a 23 and a half year old, not some string bean 19 y/o). Offensively they're both not complete 0's, but both have big time holes and will be below average.

I like Dieng, but I don't think he's a starter on any kind of decent team. Could be a good backup a la Taj Gibson, but I wouldn't bet too much that he even becomes that good.

Nerlens Noel 6'10", 7'3.75" (9.2") 206(!) (age 19)

Dunno how they measure "reach", but Dieng's is tops.

Define "good but not great". Who is the "great" player available at 10? And I'd say Dieng was "great" at defense, at least, which is what we need. Nerlens Noel is supposed to be the same. Yes, he's younger, taller and more athletic, but he's also had a serious injury and weighed 206lbs at the combine.

why do people keep bringing up "combine weight" for NOel? I mean, I'm not sold on the guy, but he was playing at 225 before he was hurt and Dr. Andrews told him to slim down to recover. If he just maintained what he played with, he'd been bigger than Davis was and about eh same as Dieng.

Was he really 225, or was that the listed roster weight?
 
I'll try to find the article, but it was saying that he was playing at 222.

Calipari scoffed at the idea that Noel is going to be too skinny, claiming that Noel weighed about 222 pounds during the season. The reason that Noel weighs 206 now is because the doctors advised that he cut down the weight for his ACL surgery rehab. Calipari seems to recognize that Noel will need to put on weight in the NBA, but is confident that he'll be up around 240 pounds soon enough.

I mean, if you want to say the kid wasn't all that when he was playing, I get it. If you're worried about the ACL not recovering, I get it. But the weight thing just seems like inventing a way to nitpick, when there are already plenty to. :dunno:
 
Okay, forget the weight, focus on the fact that he blew out his ACL gruesomely. And we can't blame it on being too heavy. Put it this way: if Portland had got the #1 pick, wouldn't we all be shitting ourselves about drafting him?

That's a bit interesting. They are working out a bunch of guy who you would never take at 10, but wouldn't be available in the second round. Trade down? Buy some picks? I would love to see them take some shots on some project centers. Some of them become really good (Gasol, Asik, Gortat).
 
I'm really intrigued by MCW, but scared as well. Who can you look to as a successful forerunner of a skinny tall PG who can't shoot? Mark Macon is not a good sign. Shaun Livingston is the obvious suggestion, but he was (a) a high school player and (b) higher rated and (c) could shoot. All other tall players have converted to SG a couple of years in (Steve Smith, Penny Hardaway, Tyreke Evans et. al.). Maybe Brian Shaw? I've suggested before that he would be a good complement to Lillard, but if he sees his role as posting up more (a la Dre) I'm not sure that's going to fly. Also apparently he's one of those guys who's ALWAYS calling for the ball (don't'cha hate playing pickup with those guys?) and shows "bad body language" if he doesn't get it. Ick.

I repeat my suggestion: take Saric/Karasev at #10 (with the idea that he's not coming over this year) then trade him to Atlanta for the #17 and #18. That would free up even more cap space for Atlanta to take their shot at Chris Paul + Dwight Howard. We could take Dieng/Plumlee/whomever and a guard like Allen Crabbe.

Pretty ballsy move by Saric, knowing that he's a fringe lottery candidate as is, and next year's draft will (finally) be one of the deeper drafts in recent history.

I have to wonder how much of this is just a ploy from his agents though. We're at the time where there's a lot of mental gamesmanship going on between agents and management. Saying that they need a promise, not in the first round, but in the lottery, has got to perk up some management's ears and make them pay a little more attention to Saric.

With that said, he wasn't exactly a hidden prospect for KK Cibona, like a lot of prospects become when they draw NBA interest. They used him a lot, as a team that's desperate to rejoin the Euroleague, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them come up with some decent money for him to stay another season.

A potential No. 1 pick a year ago, Muhammad is the perfect high ceiling, high floor type of player that Portland could use. At worst, Muhammad figures to be capable of averaging close to 10 points per game as a rookie, which is no small feat for a Trail Blazers team that only had five players average above 5.5 ppg last season.

We've got to get this kid. He's the German Tony Parker. Or the German Rajon Rondo. Then we buy a pick for Dieng and bring over Papanikolaou, and we have English, French, German, Spanish, Greek and Senegalese. We're the United Nations! (And finish it by trading for Asik...)
 
Taking Muhammad would be just like taking Bayless. I saw mocks that had Bayless as high as #2, then he "fell" to us. Sure, he made us happy in Summer League, but not much thereafter. Muhammad is bigger and not pretending to be a PG, but he's still not exactly "team focused". Bayless was a SG in a PG's body, and Muhammad is a SF who wants to be a SG but is a total black hole and isn't a great shooter.
