[ official ] 2016 summer moves (1 Viewer)

Welcome to our community

With SAC having approx 8 guys who can play C, I'm guessing they're gonna make some moves.

Cuz is prolly out of our reach and they prolly want to keep him to draw new season ticket holders with the new arena. But if they're selling dudes, then WCS is HIGH on my list. That guy is going to be a beast and they most likely don't even realize it yet.

Sorry, they're very high on WCS. In fact, I believe they plan on playing him alongside Cousins.

Their bigs:

PF: WCS/Casspi/ Acy/ Skal
C: Cousins/Koufos/Papa G

Something's gotta give.

Hopefully Olshey starts building up his trade resume this summer. I've thought his best attribute is his ability to draft, distantly followed by trades, and then free agency. With a big whiff in the draft this year he now has not only the opportunity, but the obligation to improve his standing as someone who makes great trades. I've definitely appreciated his under-the-radar trades, a la Lopez, Harkless, etc - but we need a franchise-defining trade now. Barring that I'll be moderately impressed and/or pleased if he signs Whiteside or Howard, but IMO those are half-measures that - at best - will be "Keeping Up With The Jones's" moves.

Casspi and Koufos are expendable. DMC/WCS/Skal/Papa are an interesting group.

A brilliant idea came through my genius mind.

76ers did not manage to trade Noel or Okafor for anything during the draft day and are still in a very bad need for a PG. The one they wanted went to Minnesota instead, therefore a good PG at Wolves - Rubio - has become expendable. He's on a hefty contract Wolves would probably like to get rid of. We have enough room to take Rubio's contract and then push him to Philly for Noel. Then again Sixers also have that cap space so they could take Rubio without giving up on anything if Wolves were willin to do this with us. Then maybe just throw Leonard S&T to Wolves who could use shooting and Cleveland's pick to 76ers who love picks? Would that ever work

If that really happens we would totally have to pay Dwight the full 30 mil a year to get him to come here.

Not gonna happen. A max deal for noah? They should be kicked out of the league if they do that.

They already have gortat. Gortat - noah a good fit?

Markieff morris too.

Well, for obvious reasons I want Gortat at Portland BADLY. Make it happen!!

Warriors, Thunder, and Spurs are the first teams to secure face-to-face meetings with Durant - per ESPN.

I swear to god if the Spurs or Warriors get Durant....

I see where Sergio is coming back to the NBA. I wonder where he lands.

I would love to bring Sergio back to Portland to lead our 2nd unit... He is one of my personal favorite Blazers all time. He never got a fair shake in Portland because of Nate McMillen who killed his confidence. Sergio became the best PG in Europe and lead his team to win championship and is still only 30 so has a good 3-4 years left in him.

Those two sentences seem to contradict each other.

Oh, you see THAT Sergio is coming back. What's the source? I would be prepared to bet that that's just flirtation to get a nice fat Euro-deal. I love Spanish Chocolate AKA El Chacho with a passion, but he still defends worse than I do, and I'm pushing 50 with a bad back. He does have a better 3 pointer than last we saw him, though.

(On the off chance he did come back, I'd have to say (sadly) that Houston looks most likely. But I think the star Euro-point that is more likely to interest NBA teams is Milos Teodosic. I also heard that he was interested in coming over.)

My guess is he sees thre is a lot of money to be had this summer for FA's and he wants in on it.

Intriguing suggestion. Allow me to critique it:
* Do we really want Noel? In theory he should be awesome - he gets tons of blocks AND steals and should be capable of being a Tristan Thompson -guard-everybody type. But does he really have a good defensive impact or is he just a stat stuffer? And there's the whole trash-your-rental-and-threaten-the-landlord thing.
* Do the Sixers really want Rubio? They need shooters BADLY, especially as they've handed the keys to Ben Simmons who can't shoot a lick. (And who has also said he's a "point forward".) I think the Sixers are in the market for combo guards whose main talent is shooting rather than an old school PG like Rubio.
* Do the Wolves really want Leonard? I think Thibs would take one look at his "defense" on video and shudder violently.

I must confess I am intrigued by Noel. Maybe he could be great given a change of scenery, a la Hassan Whiteside, and his value has to be at a low ebb. I just don't know if all parties would sign off on this trade. I'm pretty sure if you offered CJ for Noel the Sixers would agree, but we don't want to do THAT. Sign and trade of Crabbe AND Leonard?

If we don't get any of centers in free agency then we should be in for Noel. Between him and Okafor I'm not sure who I prefer, I like Okafor's offensive threat but we really need defence now and that's Noel's job. I mentioned Noel as main target because he seems more achievable.

Agree on two remaining points, it'd be a hard deal to conclude. Would Sixers consider Crabbe? I doubt it when they have just drafted Luwawu and Korkmaz for the same position.

Ditto Leonard and Wolves - especially as he will not be much cheaper than Rubio.

If we strike out on all the big name center free agents, i think brook lopez is a guy id see if brooklyn is ready to move on from. Definitely over greg monroe anyways.

Agree he's preferable to Monroe. Don't think Brooklyn would give him up cheap - they're already very likely to be worst team next year but don't have their pick, so have no incentive to tank.
If Olshey's signings last year are any indication, he's got some reasonably priced signings lined up for when we whiff on the big signings - I say Mahinmi or Ezeli (or Aldrich). Who knows, we may finally end up with Hibbert!

Actually it'd make great sense for Nets to move Brook to Celtics who amazingly are still in a dire need of a center despite having about 47 picks in the draft, and taking their pick back (if Celtics are interested in that at all). They will be dreadful next season for sure, Caris LeVert or not.

I think it's going to be Howard. He is the only free agent to supposedly have expressed interest in Portland. A bird in the hand, etc etc.

But if it IS Howard, the best thing that could happen would be Horford signing with Boston. That would put the Hawks in full blow-it-up mode and maybe we could pry Millsap away from them.

Dame
CJ
Aminu
Millsap
Howard

That's a decent team right there.

Holy shit Phil Jax is looking old.

I hadn't really seen him in a while.

I think it's a mistake to think "we're weak at ___ position so we should target players who play there" in today's NBA. I think once Aldridge left, we became a team of interchangeable parts. What we do need to think is "we do ___ poorly as a team, will x player help us with that?" So maybe that means we target players like (possibly) Whiteside or Biyombo or (more likely) Ezeli, but not because we have a hole at C, and that shouldn't make us think "so we have to get rid of Plumlee now". If Toronto re-signs Biyombo are they going to trade Valanciunas? Only if he's unhappy or they're financially strapped, but not for basketball reasons.

So the kind of players we need to target are versatile, team-oriented and unselfish. Oh, and good defenders.

For the reasons above, I also think we're okay at PF. Aminu defends most of them (and is better suited to PF than SF because of his shaky dribble), Ed can rebound like a mofo, and if they're really big, Plumlee can defend them. Plus, of course, the coaching staff might have more belief that Vonleh will develop than some of us (me included). Now, none of them is a star, but who cares? Each of them can be part of a really good unit on the floor.

... The Draft is likely to be a yawner for the Blazers even if they do pick up a 2nd rounder somewhere so it will help fill the news cycle.

Crystal ball working just right. :breakdance: Now if it would just help me with FA'cy. Should be having a chat with a trusted purveyor of wisdom tomorrow.
