Would Clarkson, Joe Johnson or Nance make us so much better that it would be worth giving up first round pick?

All teams in that trade gave up something more valuable than what we would have been willing to offer and got less than we would need to make us much better.
Who knows for sure, but a good GM knows how to improve the situation. A good GM knows how to be creative. A good GM knows not to sign Evan Turner for $18M a year for 4 years.

I'd like to see this just so you could be laughed off the phone trying to get 1sts for Davis and Napier.
I realize they won't land 1sts because 1sts are apparently more valuable than ever, however there's many more deals that are possible.

Not bad considering Batum is averaging only 12 pts, 4 rebs, 5 assts and makes $22.5 million.
So what? He had some value at the time. And Neil failed to cash in on it. The only things he's able to cash in on are players that he shouldnt.

You guys would like me beret than Olshey as the GM, just saying.

IDK about that yo. I mean you would've traded Aminu for a box of foil prior to the start of this season.
Which would've clearly been an undervalue.(Considering contenders were trying to pry Aminu away from Portland pre 2017 deadline) And now? Outside of the core Aminu prolly is one of Portland's most valuable piece.
Not saying you wouldn't do better, Not saying you wouldn't do worse.
Just saying it's mostlikely harder than it looks to be a NBA GM.

You make a trade to get rid of a player whos under performing and he breaks out turning into an all-star. Or he's the missing piece for a team to make a deep playoff run.
You attach a first rounder + a player whos under performing to clear some cap space. Only to see that player who was drafted turn out to be an all-star.
Both of these scenarios you have fans who end up becoming captain hindsight.

Am I happy with the moves? Nah. not at all. I would've never signed Turner or Nards. To me, these two contracts are NO's biggest failure.
But I also would've never traded for Nurk(Okafor yes) I would've never traded for Rolo. I most certainly would've traded for AA or Wilson Chandler for players Portland was never going to resign at the time.
I also would've never signed Aminu, because like Turner before he came to Portland he was a sub 30% shooter.
Harkless/Plumlee/Napier? Nope.

The point isn't that I would specifically want the Blazers to have been involved in that deal; the point is that in contrast to your statement, assets very similar to ours were used in deals that were consummated today, so it's not unreasonable to believe that Olshey could have found a deal that could have made the team better this year had he been actively seeking to do so.

I would NOT have traded Aminu for peanuts.

Orlando are so bad at making trades. Second round pick lol.

I bet Turner/Hark/Meyers are laughing hysterically in private.
