For his next act, Kylie will try to get Adam Silver to implement a new “3-ball rule,” where there are—yup, you guessed it—THREE BALLS IN PLAY ALL TIMES!

:mook:

Bertans straight across for LBJ, right Kyrie?

Did the Mavs draft Brony or something?

I just don't understand the waiving aspect. Just yesterday i was listening to some national podcast that was talking about his trade value.

Just goes to show you that even people that do this for living don't have much clue about what is actually occurring in front offices. It is such a strange move, and I wonder if they felt that their exception options were stronger and more valuable/worthwhile than anything they would have received back in a trade.

Bet on CP3 landing on the Heat this summer.

I was thinking the Lakers might be more probable. He'll making his guaranteed money from Phoenix, and thus he might be willing to take an exception. Far lower upside, but cheaper and more mentally stable than trying to push for Kyrie. This might also allow them to keep Hachimura and Reaves.

I just looked it up. He had a partial guarantee for 15.8 mil that they'll probably stretch for a lesser cap hit.

This is a direct result of the new restrictive CBA. A player like CP is not worth 30 mil.

I wonder if Grant regrets not taking the 112/4 deal we offered him earlier. Ain't no way he's going to get that in the open market now to be the third best player on a good team. We better not bid against ourselves here.

I do not get just waiving CP3 they still have to pay him over 15M that hits their cap. They still have zero cap space whatsoever. I mean I'm sure they've got a plan but I don't know if it's a good one.

We would never do that!
Yeah, never, not every off season or anything like that. Grant has already agreed to be overpaid by us and Joe will not go back on it unless he's going total youth rebuild.

so then, CP3 is guaranteed 15.8M. Assuming the stretch, 5.27M next season. Meaning the Suns are around 140M in guarantees for 5 players. That's 5-6M ABOVE the salary cap. And they need 9 more players and don't have a pick this year. And because of the Stepian Rule they have exactly 0 first's to trade

I guess they will be swimming in the veteran free agent pool most of the time

Can stretch over 5 yrs to get 3 mil hit. Much easier to stay below the apron. That Ayton contract is a killer.

it removes 24-25M from their cap, and without waiving they were already over the tax line...with 6 players

that Durant trade was a defining moment for the franchise

can only stretch for 3 years unless they guarantee the 2nd season. Much better to stretch 15M over 3 than 60M over 5

Is CP3 really that attractive of a FA? Perpetually injured and ancient.

Ayton to Portland , for Nurk & #23 works in a cap move. Saves the Suns some much needed cheddar, and they get a pick. Beggars can't be choosy. Ayton gets a new team to prove his ability and worth.

That doesnt work cap wise. And I also don't want to be the dumb team that takes on Ayton on year two of his 34 mil/yr deal for his shoddy production. He gets paid double what Nurk does. Not worth it in this new CBA.
