I actually think losing the All Star game might be good for the league overall.
Here's my thought on it. It seems teams almost use it as their benchmark as to when to start playing the real season. Another thing could be to move the trade deadline back a month or so? Those two date seem to set the tone of the season. You can even tell the difference in the way players are getting testy on the court. Tempers are flaring a bit. More technical fouls. The halfway point in the season starts to be more important.
Turn the All Star game into a All Pro game after the season much like the NFL has done. Play it in another country or some tropical destination. Make it totally fun and a showcase tool.

Good thing we need them to stay ahead of the Warriors
Rockets have won 5 in a row. Houston is only 2 games behind GSW. The Dubs are old, they've had it, they're already booking their summer fishing trips.

Can someone explain why this seems to be the case with the court?

Is it just a case of the design? Did they make a huge mistake having the key area solid black like that? I'm betting Next year they go back to a pattern that is more wood grain.

I don’t really like to disrespect LeBron James. He’s honestly one a of true talents and obviously one of the greatest. He also is a very upstanding man. He’s done so very much for so many people. I do wonder though how much he truly knows about the “Essence” of the game? To me it’s in the school yard. What are kids saying to themselves when they are letting their imagination run wild with the ball in their hands and nobody is watching. The shot they make when their eyes are brightest and their dreams are biggest.

I had started to let this issue go and then saw a few very dark or black home courts over the weekend that don’t look anything like this and then the broadcast lingered on this shot during some free throws and I took that screen shot from league pass that you’ve clipped here.

all I need the blazers to do is make it not look low rent or noticeable, and unfortunately it’s hard not to notice at this point. I’m sure they have a great explanation as to why it’s not their fault, though.

If I’d have know who took the shot I’d have given you credit. Thanks for letting us know. I appreciate it by the way.
I also agree. Just getting to the point where It’s flat out embarrassing.
I’m to the point where my tolerance has its limits. The endless tanking. The failure to attract talent, the lack of direction this team seems to have? Been a fan a long time this is getting close to the worst this team has been since I’ve been around.

exactly. I remember when walking into the old dusty memorial coliseum in the 80s was a special experience because it was impossible to get tickets (12,888), and that court looked shiny as hell. it's like that feeling you get when you get up close at a baseball stadium and realize there are world class people babying that grass all year.

if we're going to do this rebuild thing they need to nail the gameday experience—not just for people going to games but also for the folks watching at home. the moment you lose that sense of self-respect (and I'm using the word 'self' liberally here), well, it's a problem.

does this mean 'sell the team, jody!' ?

no--just fix the small stuff like this! because the big stuff is causing the casuals to tune out already.

Ayton getting some love.

https://sports.yahoo.com/the-5-most-interesting-things-about-the-nbas-worst-teams-181111100.html

Excerpt: "After his rocky end to his tenure in the Valley, Ayton got off to a rocky start in the Pacific Northwest, averaging a whisper-quiet 13.1 points per game on underwhelming efficiency during a first few months that, as Jason Quick of The Athletic reported, “were defined by tardiness and tantrums, according to team sources.” (And apparently, among other things, by a suboptimal sleeping environment.) But after missing 15 games with an extended bout of right knee soreness — well, most of them were about the knee, anyway — Ayton’s gotten ramped back up again, averaging better than 20 points and 12 rebounds per game on 63% shooting."

There are several paragraphs and it goes into some depth on Ayton, Avdija, Brandon Miller, Wemby and Cade Cunningham.

Little bit more from that: The Simons-Henderson lineups that have been vomitous on the whole? They just about break even with Ayton on the floor. A Blazers defense that ranks 24th in points allowed per possession this season? It’s been about league-average in Ayton’s minutes, and elite in the limited minutes when he’s shared the court with hyperactive wings Camara and Matisse Thybulle.

looking elsewhere than Portland's lottery chances, the races in the west are pretty interesting

only 1 game difference between the top-3 teams and the #1 seed:

upload_2024-3-25_9-5-40.png

* OKC has won season series against Denver 3-1
* Denver and Minny are tied 1-1 with 2 games left, both in Denver
* OKC & Minny are tied 2-2 in season series; right now OKC owns the 2nd tiebreker (Division record), They have a 12-4 division record so they are done with division play. Minny has an 11-3 record in division so they could pass OKC and win the division. They have 2 road games left at Denver. If they only win one of those games, they would still likely win the division (and possibly #1 seed) because of better conference records
***************************************************************************************

the next race is for 4th seed and HCA between the Pelicans and Clippers

upload_2024-3-25_9-30-33.png

Clippers have a half game lead but the Pels own the tiebreaker having won season series 3-1. LAC appears to have the easier remaining schedule
******************************************************************************************

the race for 6th seed and a playoff bye is tight between 3 teams:

upload_2024-3-25_9-37-39.png

* Phoenix has a 1/2 game lead but they have the toughest remaining SOS; it's a real gauntlet. They have already lost the tie-breaker with Dallas because of a 1-2 series record. And they have lost the tie-breaker with the Kings because of division record

* the Kings lead the season series against Dallas, 2-0. But they play twice more this week, both games in Sacramento. It's B2B but there are, strangely, 3 days between games
****************************************************************************************

and of interest here, is the race for 10th seed and the final play-in spot between Warriors and Rockets:

upload_2024-3-25_9-48-41.png

a 1 game lead for the Warriors, but it's essentially a 2 game lead because the Warriors own the tie-breaker. They play once more, at Houston. The Warriors are 4-6 over the last 10 games while Houston has won 10 of their last 11 and 8 in a row. So the Rockets have a lot of momentum

the Blazers can play a role in this race....they play the Rockets twice and the Warriors once

compared to the Blazers in-season Tournament court, this design is eye candy

Scoot has a lot to work on but I think his assist numbers will pop a bit more when guys around him start hitting their open looks. the blazers were down to that shell of a denver team by only a handful of points and were something like 0-13 from 3 in the first half. that's insane.

#'s 1,2,3 All in the Blazers Division.

I think they will try to lose all three games. I just wonder if the Warriors really want that 10th spot?
