Exclusive OFFICIAL AROUND THE NBA: NOVEMBER 2024

The defense in the NBA has gone to shit. So many 50+ pt nights and we’re a couple weeks into the season.

I remember when it was a big deal.

and then Willie Burton popped off for 57

And some very helpful rule changes.

Any recent ones? The hand-checking stuff is too long ago to contribute to the recent scoring outbursts. The arm sweep (Harden rule) helps the defense... I'm drawing a blank on anything else.

The 2018 shot clock change to 14 after a rebound sped the game up a bit.
They also went from illegal D to 3 seconds. That opened up the key a bit.
Yes hand check. But more so the defensive contact rules have slowly changed. Even more so with the replay addition.
Add all that together with the metrics of the 3 point shot and you increase scoring.

Burton never popped off for 57.

That's what analytics and floor spacing is all about. Blame the offenses, not the defenses.
The big rule change happened way back in 1979 when the three-point line was established.

so the biggest rule change is nothing new. It just took teams a long time to figure out how to make full use of it, and for a new breed of players to develop.

I care less about record books and more about wins and impact on the court.
The basketball Hall of Fame looks very fondly familiar on them and consider having a triple double has more impact on a game than NOT having one. Not sure what to tell you.

No worries. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. Just saying record books aren't everything.

Triple doubles can be incredible. They can also be underwhelming

They are definitely not a measure of efficiency. Only volume.

You could have 10 turnovers with 10 assists, go rebound hunting instead of playing solid defense, and shoot 35% from the field and get a triple double.

Do me a favor and find these triple doubles for me real quick.

Well if you find triple doubles underwhelming…..you must have REALLY enjoyed our team the past few years!

Correct. I've not enjoyed our team as much the last two years.

When Scoot and Sharpe play a lot without somebody on the court trying to iso constantly I enjoy them much more.

Triple doubles don't win you titles.

I think triple doubles are an amazing accomplishment.

If they are within the flow of the game. Not in a losing effort seeking out meaningless stats.
I wish we one day will have a player that is talented enough to choose when they can get triple double and when they don’t want to.
