Too bad his dads a huge douche or people would probably like him.
You are right. But isn't that a sad reflection on society that people would hate a player because of who their parents are? I honestly can't think of a time where these guys have said anything TOO outlandish. I kinda root for 'em.

I take that back, I think Lonzo once said in an interview that rappers today are better than back in the day or something like that. That actually is enough for me to hate him.....nevermind.

Hmmm, sign me up, except I think it would put us over the tax line. :(

The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to waive Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, sources told Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Hollis-Jefferson signed with the Wolves in early December.

I watched his dad on some video online giving a tour of his house and he sounded like the most arrogant person ever. His sons actually seem grounded. Mom must have really ruled the roost. Dad is just trying to take credit.

Knicks just cut Michael-Kidd Gilchrist! Wow how the mighty have fallen. #2 player in the country to halfway out the league. What a HS team that was.....I think he was on the same team as Kyrie.

The Jazz are so fucking stupid... to give Gobert 40 million per season with his limited skill set regardless of how elite he is at those skills is ludicrous and will prevent them from contending. Ryan Smith the Jazz's owner and his 1.3 million dollar net worth can't afford huge luxury tax bills so he essentially... for the lifetime of the deal, dedicated 1/4 of his available salary to spend on a player whose skills are useful but the summation of which are outdated for a max contract.

Worst contract I have ever seen. Gobert isn't worth that now. He for sure won't be worth that on the back end of it.

That can't be right. The owner of the team can't have a net worth less than what players earn per year on a Vet Minimum Contract... Do you mean $1.3 Billion?

you can either overpay a player, which in this case is obvious and gobert isnt worth that money or you can lose the player

for utah jazz is pretty simple, better to overpay than to lose a player like gobert, cause without him, theyre not a playoff team

after all, rudy gobert achieved this in his nba career:

NBA All-Star (2020)
All-NBA Second Team (2017)
2× All-NBA Third Team (2019, 2020)
2× NBA Defensive Player of the Year (2018, 2019)
4× NBA All-Defensive First Team (2017–2020)
NBA blocks leader (2017)

I figured this didn’t need its own thread, but I noticed that basketball reference has statistical projections for each player this year. I’m not sure if this is something new, but I never noticed before.

according to them, Lillard will score 27 ppg, Nurkic 20 ppg, McCollum 21 ppg and Carmelo 16 ppg... wouldn’t that all be nice?

Um... yeah, his net worth is reportedly 1.3 BILLION. Just a typo.

I hear you and the problem I had when he came out with his demand for the supermax is still there. He isn't multifaceted enough to get that kind of money. Yes he's an all NBA center but I am expecting that we get Nurk to re-sign for in the neighborhood of 20-25 million and if he won't go for an extension like that this offseason, as much as I love Nurk, you ship his ass out of here for the best offer.

Utah should not have done this deal. They should have put Gobert on the trading block and seen what they could get for him as soon as he said he wasn't taking less than this. I don't think they are a championship team with him. I do think they could get some return value for him that would keep them in the playoffs. As it stands they will be around 126 million if Gobert's contract starts at 36 million but they will only have ten roster spots filled... so they'll have to go even further above the cap to fill the roster.

If they fill it out with min level players then they'll stay under the tax and have a rotation of Clarkson, Mitchell, Bogdanovic, O'Neal, Gobert, Engles, Favors and I guess someone they get using the MLE if they don't mind paying some tax. I think they'll have to let Conley walk or maybe they'll go way over the tax and re-sign him for whatever he's worth at this point... which should be far less than he's getting paid.

I just don't get it. I wouldn't think a small market team like this with an owner that's worth just over a billion could afford to commit over sixty million a season to Mitchell and Gobert.

Here is a little blip on each team by an anonymous scout: Portland got a lot deeper. And they became more athletic with [Robert] Covington and [Derrick] Jones. Covington will guard three’s and fours. That allows them to play smaller. They can keep Zach Collins away from being a power forward. It’s more suited to way games are being played. I can see Covington being helpful in guarding an Anthony Davis. Zach is just going to get in foul trouble against a guy like that. Jones is flashy. They need someone athletic like him to create a little havoc when he comes in the game. He’s a Swiss army knife kind of player. If Gary Trent can develop into a tough physical defender who can play the 2–3, who can guard physical guys, he can be really good. With Rodney Hood getting healthy, Zach healthy, that’s a pretty deep team. Kanter will help with the rebounding and he’s in a system he’s familiar with.

Would you give Gobert 207M if he is a Blazers 2 time DPOY or let him walk?

No offense to you, CJ, or Gobert, but these type of huge contracts for 2nd tier players (like Gobert and CJ) are the death knell for small market teams.

I know, I know, your stats are great and relevant, but regardless, Gobert is not a difference maker (neither is CJ).

if you ask utah jazz fans, a lot of them will say gobert is their best player

theres no consensus amongst utah jazz fans that michell is their best player

youd have no choice but to give it to him

sure, you can let him walk and become irrelevant nba team

add to that, jazz would piss off mitchell if they traded gobert or let him go in free agency and thats something you dont want to do... jazz are not a free agency destination and when you have players like michell or gobert, you keep them as long as you can

jazz got lucky they drafted mitchell just after gordon hayward left

Call me crazy, but I'd take Whiteside over Gobert

Not a difference maker? How do you figure? His WS, BPM, VORP--basically any advanced stat that attempted to measure overall on-court impact shows him to be a difference-maker. I'd venture to say that he's more important to the Jazz' success than Mitchell is.
