I hate to be the Blazer fan to say it, but Damon is getting a little over-exposed at this point. I mean, I enjoy seeing it as a fan, and I think he really is a very nice young player. I think he's got a bright future ahead of him, and after years of Portland getting passed over for All-Star game appearances, it's awesome to have two players in the actual game.

I just don't know that he's really quite worth all the media hype/all-star attention he's received. He's a second year player who does benefit a lot from playing next to Aldridge, he hasn't made the playoffs yet, and frankly I'm starting to lose confidence lately that he will lead us out of the first round---he just hasn't had a lot of dominant scoring nights recently.

Part of me wonders if we'll look back on the All-Star Dame-a-palooza a little cringe-y, kind of like the Oden victory parade....I just have this terrible sense of foreboding that Lillard will be terrible over the weekend, his perimeter shooting slump will malinger through the playoffs, and in time he'll be added to the depressingly long lists of Blazers Could-Have-Beens.

*shrug* Maybe I'm just not used to having nice things.

The NBA is full of manufactured stars. If Dame is next on the list, I'll take it. League favor usually brings better treatment from the refs. He'll get his shot back. He just dropped 30+ and 10 assists on the Pacers. The guy is legit. He's just going through a sophomore slump.

Yeah, you are probably right. I've been complaining about the NBA star system for so long now that I'm definitely not about to complain when the eye of Sauron finally swings toward Portland and anoints a star.

Just have a funny feeling about this. Probably nothing. (to quote every horror film ever.)

The hard thing is that he clearly has lost some confidence in his outside shot. That's a hard thing to get back. You just have to shoot your way out of it, and there's no amount of practice that will get it done either. It has to be in game, under the bright lights, and in front of the cameras. I'm actually really hoping that All-Star weekend will jolt him out of his slump a bit. The three point contest could be just what the doctor ordered.... or it could blow up in his face. I guess we'll see.

It's like the NBA decided last summer that he was who they wanted to focus some attention on, and they can't deviate from their script. Because aside from the first few weeks of the season, he certainly hasn't deserved the attention this year - he's taken a step backwards after his great rookie season.

Being the starting PG on a 36-15 team and getting voted
By the coaches to the AS game means he doesn't deserve attention. ffs

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Natebishop3 again.

I'm hoping the three point contest will jolt him out of this mini slump. I think it will.

Not a bad night for Dame.

He got a "B" for the three point contest.

A solid performance for Lillard in the second of his three competitions of the evening. He made three of his five shots from the money rack and was one make away from advancing to the finals.

He got a "B" for the dunk contest.

In the last event of his historic, busy night, Lillard offered a worthy spinning, double-pump dunk that he made on his second try. The head-to-head battle with Ross could easily have gone Lillard's direction, drawing the only split decision of the evening with judges favoring Ross by a 2-1 count. Lillard might have won had he saved his between-the-legs dunk from the freestyle round. As Dr. J noted, pulling that off is difficult for a smaller player like Lillard.

He got an "A" for the skills challenge.

The champions seemed to want this more than anyone else. Damian Lillard was perfect through his first run and Trey Burke moved fastest through the dribbling drills of any competitor. That hustle allowed Lillard and Burke to overcome two missed shots apiece and pull off the narrow victory by one-tenth of a second over Team Carter-Williams/Oladipo.

And he got a "B" for the Rising Stars event.

After aggressively looking for his offense in the first half, Lillard settled into his duties as a facilitator down the stretch. He connected on some beautiful lob plays that led to easy dunks for big men Drummond and Terrence Jones. Lillard just continues to make the game look so easy.

Three "B" grades and an "A". Not bad for a busy night.
